Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 35 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were highly dissatisfied with product quality, frequently describing the fish as grey, mushy, or slimy, often not resembling actual fish and having an awful taste. Customers consistently reported products were disgusting, rancid, or even tasting like chemicals, and felt packaging was misleading, containing less fish than advertised. Additionally, people frequently encountered issues with texture, describing batter as soggy or rubbery, and the overall product consistency as unpleasant. Some also questioned if products labeled as scampi were actually scampi, often finding a grey congealed mess inside instead.

I have just eaten Youngs Golden Scampi

I have just eaten Youngs Golden Scampi. I couldn't even see the scampi, let alone taste it. It was nothing but thick breadcrumbs surrounding something tiny and horribly squishy. What a total con.

How does this company keep going? They don’t seem to care about their customers judging by the reviews left here. Not an answer to a review seen at all. They must think they’re so good they don’t need to monitor their products. There isn't one reply to a complaint that I can see.

Never again will I buy youngs products

Never again will I buy youngs products, opened a pack of seafood sticks they were full of water and half the size that they were this time last year, I drained the water and put them in a salad 20 minutes later the dish was full of water which was still draining, halving the content & making up the weight with water is not the way to go it's just greedy and wrong.

Bought yellowfin sole

Bought yellowfin sole, looked really nice on the box. In reality the smell when cooking was unpleasant. The flesh when cooked had a yellow/grey tinge and again, it smelled really unpleasant. On the plus side, the thin batter was crispy, I peeled this off and fed the fish to the dog.

Bought a few boxes of cod fishfingers last year they weren't good quality so I decide to contact youngs fish company based in Grimsby I sent the images the product and a email got a reply from this person called Claire who works there she said that she will sent me out some vouchers anyway she them. Sent me a email saying send me some information of the item I did that but sadly by my big mistake I srnt her an email. Contain another company who also deals with fish called Birds Eye as I have a sight loss can't see that much when she recived the wrong email by birds eye from then she emails me and when I recived and read her email she charged her attitude against me and said that there will not be srnt any vouchers I begged her so much td her the reason after that she was never ever to. Go. Out she did not send me no vouchers she was never to go back. To her good rules Infact she became nasty and made me very very sad upset ill she became very very nasty I hated her I will. Never forget they way she treated me I will she made me very very depressed i will never ever contact her ever again she became so nasty this matter still haunts me this happened in November 2023 i Never ever want to contact 'her ever again

do not buy young scampi

Everything I have read about the awful quality of youngs seafood I endorse. I bought scam pi and what an awful taste. When I cut into a piece it looked slimy not white but grey amorphous lumps. My granddaughter was really unhappy we did not allow her to eat a favourite meal. I thought it was a bad batch until as I say it really is that bad Never Again goodbye Youngs.

OMG! What a joke.

OMG! Fisherman Pie 🤣.You need a very long rod to go fishing for the fish in this.I had 3 tiny pieces of fish in the whole thing.Young,s really? It was basically mashed potato with a bit of cheese.Never again!

What has fish to do with Young's Fisherman's Pie?

Answer: Very little indeed. There is scarcely 15% of cheap Alaskan Pollock in a sea of reconstituted mashed potato with a few wisps of cheese. The nutritional value of this unappetizing slurry is minimal.
Advice: Go out and buy some portions of frozen cod or haddock fillets of good quality, uncoated, and cook them with brushed-on butter in an air fryer for just a few minutes. Now that is scrumptious fast food and nutritious as well.

Try a different brand of scampi

I can’t believe that I’ve just spent my time reading reviews about something as banal as Youngs Scampi!
However having just eaten some I couldn’t believe how awful it was. It was nothing like what scampi should look or taste like.
The scampi looked of decent size at first glance, but when cooked the actual scampi turned out to be incredibly tiny tiny tiny misshapen lumps of grey gelatinous stuff, covered in an extremely thick and totally tasteless breaded coating. This thick, hard coating is clearly intended to create the false impression of a juicy large piece of scampi inside - Big disappointment awaits!
Can honestly say the product was just awful! In fact I’ve now just thrown out the other half of the bag for the crows or seagulls to eat, (though even they might not touch it!).
Having now read all the negative reviews like many reviewers, I also will never buy any of Youngs products again as the quality has clearly declined to the extent that the company are happy to offer customers such rubbish.

Food poisoning

Food poisoning. The Gastro lemon and pepper fish fillets gave me food poisoning. They were cooked as stated on the box but woke up the next morning with diarrhoea and vomiting.
