sneaky $10 a month for basically nothing

mirroring the experience of other customers - you become a member just to end up sneakily paying $10 a month and while that gets you the first book, you actually never get any other book (like on audible). You simply pay for the right to be a member. I tried to cancel the membership as soon as i found out it is a recurring pay, the UI was so confusing I accidentally ended up restarting it for a second charge. I reached to the support and Tarah refunded the re-start charge (undoing their poor, confusing UX supercharged by my stupidity) but no refund for the other $10 - when I asked for some kind of benefit for the $10 I paid, she said I get nothing....

Absolute thieves!! DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS WEBSITE IT IS A SCAM!! I purchased an audiobook at full price, no where did I say I wanted to sign up for any sort of member ship. They have been charging my account every month since. Do not buy off of this site as you will be robbed!! Disgusting thieves.

Great books & excellent customer service!

I downloaded a book & tried to like it. But I hated it. I contacted Tarah at Customer Service. Without hesitation she deleted the bad book from My Library and sent the alternative book to My Library. It was very easy to communicate with Customer Service, and I exchanged messages with a live person. Imagine that in this impersonal age. Audio Book Store.Com is an excellent company with great books and fabulous service when you have a problem. I recommend it to you.

Dishonest through not responding to complaint

This is my worse book purchasing experience. I have ordered one book and paid for it. As I was not experienced in online e books I thought it was it. However money was taken out of my account every month for over a year. I admit that I did not notice (my mistake) as I was away for 6 months then I was catching up with things to do. When I did notice it and contacted the company in various ways, no even one response! Even after first contact another payment was taken out of my bank. I had to stop that bank card.
Be very aware when dealing with this company, definitely not an honest company that do not answer communications. So in the end one ebook cost me $176.33. When I tried the chat way as soon as I said what the problem was the "friendly" person on the other site went quiet. The chat timed out.
My problem is not with the product but with the way the company operates. No two way communications. Never had such experience before.
I am writing the date of experience at the bottom when the last payment was taken out.
I am still open to negotiation and updating this as resolve if the company will finally communicate and we resolve it. However month have passed in me writing to them and no response.

Absolute scam artists

Absolute scam artists. I purchased one book then without my permission or knowledge they started charging me every month. I try to get hold of customer service no one gets back. They go you need to cancel flexipass I said I didn’t set up flexipass so I couldn’t cancel it as I didn’t set it up. They finally email me back after a week telling me they can’t find my account my email or my bank details. I provide all of this info to them to no avail. I get frustrated and they say we do not like your tone we are terminating there contact with me effectively giving me no way to cancel a subscription I didn’t even set up. Had to go via my bank and cancel my cards and now my banks fraud team are doing an investigation. Absolute scam artists I’ve also lodged a complaint with consumer affairs. Don’t believe the no subscription fees it’s an absolute lie when you buy a book they sign you up for a subscription fees without you knowing. Most of these reviews on this company are for the exact same thing.

Management reviewed the full communication with you related to this, which was entirely via email so there is a clear record of the conversation. The communication began on September 8th (a Friday) when you asked to cancel your membership. As noted in the communication with you, your membership subscription began when you chose to purchasing your audiobook at the new member discount price. The communication concluded on September 15th when our team confirmed cancellation was successful. At no time in that communication did we mention that we could not locate your account, or terminate the communication as a result of your tone. In fact, there is no "tone" from you or our team in the communication at all, it was actually very cordial and calm. We'd love for you to please provide a copy of the communication you're referring to so we may investigate further. Is it possible you may have initially reached out to one of our competitors before reaching out to us - we do see this happen from time to time? That would certainly explain an issue locating your account (if you reached out to another audiobook company and they could not locate an account for you).

Good service with the books I want

I’m very satisfied with the service at audiobookstore. I found the books I wanted, and I think the pricing is very reasonable. With my first purchase I had trouble downloading at first, but Tarah quickly responded to my e-mail and the problem was solved within less than two hours. No problems since then!

Excellent audio quality and availabilty.

There are books available in the USA that are not available in UK. I was so very happy to find these and started to download them into my iPad. During early hours I was not fully sure of whether I could download them in the UK so asked. I received a very quick and positive reply from Tarah who helped well. My wife and I are now very happy and listening to books that in the past we have read visually. Early days but we are both very happy with The Audio Book Store. Excellent and speedy support from Tarah.

Good selection of books

Good selection of books. I am disappointed however that the App doesn't seem compatible with CarPlay. I contacted the company with a question about this but have had no reply.
Update. Received good responses from the store and am very happy how they have communicated. Overall now extremely satisfied with audiobook store.

Fraudulent charge

I forgot to cancel the subscription and then asked for reimbursement. Was told no and given a credit as per terms. Unfortunately they have fraudulently charged me the following month which is unacceptable after the amount of email communication the prior month.

the above was my initial comment .. they now made the book available for download after 2 hours.. so not scam .. but giving only 3 stars for delay.. google ad said instant download ..

SCAM You Cannot Download the MP3

I specifically chose audiobookstore.com because they clearly state on their website that they provide the actual MP3. I created an account and purchased the book for the full price without creating an account. I selected the option to get a download of the MP3 and it immediately said I could not download THE BOOK I PAID FULL PRICE FOR until my "account was reviewed". Do not purchase books from this store. It's clearly a SCAM!

Horrible experience Don't do it

I ordered 1 book from this company. I was barely able to finish it. Download speed was incredibly slow and the app is full of glitches. I also thought it was a 1 time charge. Little did I know that my account was being charged monthly. When I contacted customer service for help, their line was set up to automatically go to voice-mail. I did not receive a call back. Then I emailed. Over 10 times I emailed. It doesn't matter if you are satisfied. It doesn't even matter if you have been using the product or not. There are no refunds from this company. Only emply apologies and attitude.

We're very sorry for the frustration this process has caused you. Download speeds for each book does depend on your internet connection. If an internet connection is slow, or overwhelmed it will take a bit of time to download the book. It's not uncommon for glitches to happen when you have a slower or unstable connection - simply re-downloading the audiobook, or even uninstalling and reinstalling the app with a stable connection typically resolves those issues. Unfortunately slow or unstable internet connections are beyond our control at this point.


Management reviewed the communication you referenced.

As noted in the initial communication with you, your membership subscription began when you chose to purchasing your audiobook at the new member discount price. On our website, we clearly offer 2 purchase options - a one time purchase option and a membership option. In addition, we offer the ability to remove the FlexPass membership at checkout - that is located in yellow for clarity.

It is never our intention to catch someone off guard with a membership they don't wish to be in. This is why we make those purchase terms very clear throughout the purchase process, and send an email welcoming you to our membership as soon as you enroll to it. We apologize if you didn't find that clear.

We also offer the ability to cancel directly on the account details page right on our website at any time. The Cancel FlexPass button is located just to the right of the FlexPass logo if you're using a computer. If you're on a mobile device it is located directly below the logo.

I do see you called us - that call was promptly returned by our customer care manager, and the account was cancelled on that phone call.
