There was nobody at the desk when I arrived to pick up the car. They had left a phone number where one should call. When I called, nobody answered. Only some minutes later my 2nd call was answered. Then someone showed up immediately and everything went very smooth.

Do NOT return your car after business hours! Do NOT trust them!
Do not leave the car in their parking area without a proper inspection. Don’t make the same costly mistake I did (€350).
I have full photo and video documentation and I am willing to describe the case in detail. The matter has also been reported to the appropriate authorities.
I returned the car at 4:00 AM because I had a flight at 5:00 AM. I used the key drop box. Before returning the vehicle, I carefully checked it and recorded a video showing its condition.
I parked the car at the Pisa Autovia parking area, right next to their office. For those who haven’t been there — it is not a place where random people can walk around freely. I intentionally left the car in a spot where no one needed to park next to it or even pass close by.
At 8:10 AM, shortly after the office opened, I received a damage report stating that a scratch had appeared under the driver-side mirror. This scratch is NOT visible in my video recorded at 4:00 AM.
Based on the photos provided by the rental company, the damage looks like it was made deliberately with a sharp object.
Who caused it? I don’t know — but I have my suspicions.
What was the outcome? The rental company claimed I was responsible for the vehicle between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM, even though it was already parked on their premises. They charged me €350.
If you return the car during business hours, make sure a staff member inspects the vehicle with you and prepares a return report in your presence.
Is this a scam? Draw your own conclusions.

Drop off the car in Pisa airport today , the person at the drop off was only interest in making more money with false Accusations of scratches and dents, I was told by the person that if I did not approve a dent he would find more. I have taken pictures of the car and can document that the car is damage free, the person would not give his ID , fraudulent behavior, do not use this company.

I booked a rental car with Autovia because they were more affordable than other companies — unfortunately, that ended up costing more in the long run.
We collected the vehicle late in the evening, in the dark, and no staff member was available to check the condition of the car with us. The car already had multiple areas of visible damage. The next morning, we took detailed photos and videos because the damage looked far more extensive than what was recorded.
After returning the car, Autovia claimed that a wheel was damaged during my rental — something I know did not happen and was never caused by me. They refused to consider our photos (taken less than 12 hours after pickup) and could not provide any pre-rental photos to prove the damage wasn’t already there. Despite my dispute, they charged my dad’s card without resolution.
Very disappointing experience. Even though the rental price may look cheaper upfront, be cautious — any pre-existing damage not accurately recorded could result in unexpected charges. I would not rent from Autovia again.
This has been the worst and most unprofessional car rental experience I have ever had. I have travelled to many countries around the world, but nothing like this has ever happened to me before, especially with a company like Autovia.
I had booked a car through Booking and paid in advance, including the extra insurance. When I arrived at the Autovia desk at Pisa Airport, the staff member (a bald man) was extremely rude, offensive, and showed discriminatory behavior. Even though my payment had already been processed by the bank, he refused to give me the car. When it was time to leave the deposit with my card, he simply said the card “doesn’t work” and cancelled my reservation.
He kept the money, but I received no car. He made me wait for two hours and then told me he “didn’t want to deal with me anymore,” yet he still kept the payment. This is unacceptable and completely unprofessional. Avoid this company at all costs — they take your money and do not provide the service.
After this terrible experience, I went to OkMobility, where Alessia assisted me. She was polite, professional, and very helpful. My bank card worked perfectly there, and I completed the payment with no issues. OkMobility solved my problem immediately and provided excellent customer service.

Booked a fully prepaid car through Ryanair. My flight was delayed by one hour, and Autovia refused to give me the car with zero flexibility. Staff were rude and unhelpful, offered no solutions, and kept the full payment.
Even worse, my booking shows the car as “in trip”, although I NEVER received any car.
Looks like a pattern based on other reviews — take the money, refuse the service.
Avoid this company.

Initial Car Inspection:
When I picked up the car, I immediately noticed two scratches—one located on the roof and another on the rear bumper. I reported both to the rental agent. The agent made a note of the roof damage but dismissed the scratch on the bumper, saying it was minor and could be polished out.
Post-Return Damage Claim:
Despite this initial assessment, six (!) days after returning the vehicle, Autovia contacted me and claimed I was responsible for the bumper damage. As a result, they charged me 240 euros for the repair.
Concerns about Business Practices:
This experience left me with the impression that Autovia may be seeking additional income by charging for damages that were previously dismissed or considered insignificant. The situation felt unfair and left me feeling misused, even though the damage was covered by insurance.
Advice to Future Renters:
Based on this experience, I strongly recommend thoroughly inspecting your rental car at the time of pickup. Make sure to insist that the agent registers every single mark or scratch you find, no matter how small it may seem.

Pressured into the upgrade on the insurance and when we went to collect the car, the whole offside of the car was badly damaged. The rear door was badly dented and would not shut properly and had to be lifted up to try and shut it. The door had also sharp edges due to the damage. When we went back to request a different vehicle, we were told there were no other vehicles available even though the parking area was full of their cars. Initially the rental agent was friendly but when we returned to explain about the damage and there was, in our opinion a safety issue with the rear door, the rental agent became very hostile!
Due to the time, we had no option but to take the vehicle but when sitting in the back, we had to exit out of the other side of the vehicle. We initially collected the vehicle from Pisa airport and returned it at Venice airport where the agent confirmed that the vehicle should not have been rented in the condition that it was in. Despite having sent emails and chase up emails to Booking.com and Autovia, nobody has bothered to acknowledge or reply!
4/12/25 STILL WAITING FOR A REPLY FROM CUSTOMER SERVICES AT AUTOVIA DESPITE HAVING SENT THE INFORMATION TO THEM TWICE!

Update - thank-you for your reply. I’m assuming that the reply is coming from Autovia head office. What information can i give you so that you can identify my case?
we felt that we were given a very poor car by Autovia, and that we were effectively being set up by Autovia for them to claim from us.
They have now taken money from my credit card claiming that we damaged the car but we have photos showing the damage was present when we collected the car
The first bad sign was the force of argument the Autovia rep put into persuading us to take their extra insurance. Much more than we ever experienced before. We actually have our own insurance so I didn’t want theirs. However, I would not like to claim under my insurance for this amount as it will damage my premiums and I don’t think this is a valid claim in any event.
The second bad sign was the poor quality of the car we were given. For instance, if you look at the roof of the car it is full of bumps and repaired damage, that is not even acknowledged on the car damage diagram
The car didn’t drive well either. We could have asked for another car, but we were rushing to get to a ferry.
I did take collection photos of the car, which was in any event covered in damage on collection.
Of the two alleged damage items, I cannot recall either happening during us driving. We have photos showing the alleged damage on the windscreen from the start of the hire
The third bad sign was that, on return and after I refused to accept the damage report, the company promised to send me their paperwork within two days. In the event, this only arrived 2 weeks later.
We replied but did not receive a response. Then another 2 months later they took money from credit card which I have now asked the credit card to repay and dispute with them. Just a lot of time wasted and an awful car

We rented a car at Autovia in Pisa, Italy for 7 days. A brand new Ford Puma, that had only driven about 2500 km.
When we had the car, everything was fine, but when we delivered it, the chaos began.
We were going to fly early, so we used the drop off box in the morning. We took pictures of our car 7:45, 15 minutes before our rental period expired and nothing was to see.
When we got back home, they suddenly send a letter with a picture of a big scratch, and a charge of 292€. It was obvious on the pictures that it was taken at sunset, so probably about 10 hours after our reservation period ended.
We replied immediately and send all our own pictures back to them. After 14 days they responded that they could not accept our pictures. We again answered straight away, but this time it took more than a month before they replied - but without an answer, only the charge.
When we first got our car we saw that 2 times with 14-days interval before us, there had been registered damage to the car. Due to our experience, we find this very suspicious. We can’t prove it, but with the damage record on the car, we suspect them to make scratches on the car to charge extra money. All the damages was mysteriously in a scale were they don’t affect the function of the car - and it can still be rented out.
They take extra fees, they dont reply to you and since they have reserved a deposit they can just take away your money, no matter your complaint. Every other car rental company must be more professional than Autovia…

WARNING – Avoid AutoVia at Pisa Airport!
We never even got our rental car despite a confirmed booking. The staff refused to accept a credit card from one of our travel companions – something every other company allows. The woman at the desk was extremely rude and made no effort to solve the issue. She even admitted that if the manager had been there, it would have been fine – but since she wasn’t, we were simply left stranded.
Unprofessional, unfriendly and unreliable. Save yourself the trouble and rent from another company.

First of all the desk is quite far from the terminal and they do not tell you this so they can charge as "on site" It took me asking several people before I found someone who could direct me to where they were. Then when I arrived there was no one at the desk, and no one who answering any of the numbers available. I had to wait for twenty minutes before someone showed up, no apology. The car was fine overall, although some of the media stuff didn´t work which was annoying and inconvenient. I had to drop off when they weren´t open and it was dark at the time. After 3/4 days, they contacted me about a "scratch" that was tiny and nearly invisible and not there when i left the car. They want to charge me over 200 euros for this! I have external insurance so it doesn´t matter, but it feels very like a scam. I see from reviews many other people have similar experiences. I complained about it, they say it was discovered imediately and that because I was using out of hours service, I have to accept their word. I would never use this company again, and would not recommend to anyone, even with insurance.

No problems with Car, problems afterwards with 'charges' made to my credit card for no justified reason.
Autovia.it also do not respond to e-mails and their desk at Pisa Airport was not able to, or unwilling to help. I have video evidence that the car was returned full and with no damage!
Appalling service, charges now being disputed via credit card company.
*********** UPDATE 24th SEPT ************
Autovia.it have seen my photos and video of UNDAMAGED car left at their return location. They quote 'terms & conditions' say that it DOES NOT MATTER IF THE CAR WAS DAMAGED WHILST BACK IN THEIR CARE, as I used "Key Drop" service.
I thought taking a video and submitting it would help them see sense.
It seems they ARE determined to defraud their customers of money by 'claiming for damages' which are not the responsibility of their customers.
AUTOVIA.IT i hope Karma gets you. I will spend my time now telling people of your terrible service and dishonest business practises I have experienced first hand!

Good experience with this car rental firm. There was a long queue and wait at the counter but then all friendly and smooth.
No aggressive haggling about extra insurance sometimes encountered with other firms.

I rent a car about once every one or two months and bar one problem when the flight was late, Autovia is consistently good. One of the few companies that doesn’t seem to look for problems when you return your car unblemished!
