BADN - Great association for Dental Nurses

Great association that supports and assists dental nurses all over the UK. They provide an online Coffee meeting with various guest speakers which has been so helpful and informative.

Topics discussed ‘Indemnity Insurance for Dental Nurses’. I learnt the pitfalls of not having enough cover eg Basic/Extended duties.

Reminded it’s the dental nurses responsibility as per the GDC guidelines not the employer to be covered should an enquiry/claim occur.

Recommended that each dental nurse should hold a copy of the indemnity insurance, past and present, in their CPD file as proof and reference should a retrospective enquiry/claim occur in the future.
All this helpful guidance and you receive CPD points for attending online.
So glad I joined when I saw their stand at the Dentistry Show.

Would definitely recommend BADN.

Hi Susan,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're delighted to hear how helpful you've found our support and the online Coffee Catch-up meetings. It's great to know the session on Indemnity Insurance was informative and gave you some valuable takeaways. You're absolutely right—having the right cover is so important, and we’re glad we could help clarify that for you. It’s fantastic that you’re making the most of the CPD opportunities too!

Very quick response

Very quick response. Fairly straight forward. More than happy that BADN help support dental nurses. My only dislike is, I prefer hard copies of journals which understandably have an extra charge which means I am forced to use everything online. I don't have or want a smart phone or internet (too expensive and intrusive) Overall I've been with BADN for many years and have recommended them to many colleagues and friends.

Dear customer,

Thank you for your kind words and for being a loyal member of BADN for many years. We're delighted to hear that you appreciate our support for dental nurses and that you've recommended us to your colleagues and friends.

We understand your preference for hard copies of journals and acknowledge that the extra charge for printed copies can be a concern. This additional fee is solely to cover the costs of printing and postage, and we do not make any profit from it. Your feedback is important to us, and we aim to provide the best possible service to all our members.

Thank you again for your continued support and understanding.

48 Years As A Member

As I have been with you since 1977 originally on the Voluntary Register until we were moved on to the GDC Register . I have seen many changes I started my training at Leeds Dental School in 1976 a 2 year Full Time Course I have since worked worked in many areas of Dental Nursing from Nurse Training to Management plus volunteering abroad including being employed in a Military Hospital in Saudi Arabia , in the 80’s this was quite a challenge but a fantastic experience .
I worked hard with colleagues at the time for gain recognition and membership with the GDC , to be honest many colleagues are still not recognised for the hard work they do and do not receive the pay they deserve most I know work long hours and through lunch breaks but with out due recognition . Our position has improved but we are still second class citizens and have never been treated as suggested back in the 80’s as equal to General Nurses .
I'm sure the situation will remain so until I retire in 2 years when I will have served 50 years in Dental Care without a substantial break from work , that will be very rare with todays workforce who as a whole do not feel valued, we struggle to recruit staff then they leave when the reality of the position becomes apparent .The whole training on line does not give the support trainees need I try to give one to one training when I can but alas I can’t afford to do this without a charge as I now work as a self employed Dental Nurse frequently helping in a a busy NHS mixed Practice having retired from Management at a High Security Prison when I reached 60 . I could work 6 days a week but choose not to .
I did receive your award FBADN but this was removed as a title for me to use when I went Part Time ,this seems rather odd that my long service is not valued by yourselves !
I have had an amazing career but one I feel will not be available to younger colleagues in the future , through work I have travelled to many places for which I am grateful to have had the experience . Good Luck to all young colleagues you are the most important part of the team !

Dear Mrs C

On behalf of our Chief Exec Pam Swain, who is currently on leave, thank you for your support over so many years! BADN do indeed value your long service and expertise – the BADN Fellowship, once awarded, is not rescinded because you work part time, and I apologise for any misunderstanding that has made it appear so. If you would email us at enquiries@badn.org.uk, I will make sure that the post-nominal FBADN is restored to your member details – I can only assume that it was somehow dropped when data was transferred to our new system; and I am sure Pam will want to contact you once she is back in the office.

An excellent service.

I phoned up and left a message and it wasn’t long till I was phoned back.
I went online to re-register and I couldn’t change it to part time hours, as I do less than 20 hours now.
A lovely lady explained only they could change it, their end, to part time registration.
I also said I didn’t get a membership card last year. She said she would send one. I also told her, I had been a member since 1984, when I passed my qualification exams.
It only took a couple of days and my membership card came. Also, to my delight, a BADN 80 years badge and a 25 years membership badge. So all in all, I had an excellent experience with the BADN. Top marks and many thanks.
