Don't touch this bank with a bargepole, the operation is a shambles. Customer service department is unfit for purpose. Account charges are ludicrous - 14€ per month for simply maintaining an account... See more

I was just yelled at by Begonia

Begonia was rude on the phone, and while yelling she could not help me close my account, or help me with my online login, because she has "not met me or seen me before!
She has not heard of FaceTime or a Zoom meetings. They do not answer their emails and or make an attempt to solve a problem.
Way to go representing yourself, your bank and your country. What a shame!

Worst bank in the world?

This bank is terrible, just terrible. If you're an expat (or if you're Spanish, for that matter) and considering Bankia - don't. They're a bunch of amateurs with no customer service whatsoever. A few examples:

1) All of a sudden they changed the username of my online banking account. I couldn't access it anymore. They decided to change it, but didn't notify me. When I contacted my online 'gestor' she gave me one possible solution. That didn't work, but that was her only attempt to help me out. So I went to my local branch. I had to go 3 times to that branch to get a simple thing like that solved... Unbelievable. If they can't even get that right, how should I trust them with my money?

2) We were looking for a mortgage and had contacted several banks. Bankia was in the running too. I contacted them several times to get an answer, they never got back to me. Very unprofessional.

3) In the middle of the lockdown, they decided to charge monthly fees to a 'free' online account. And of course, you have to go to a local branch to cancel your online account (the irony). Which you can't really do in a lockdown (or don't want to do, because it's not worth going out on the street for). No real prior notification that you'll be charged and they did it amidst a pandemic. They just thought they could get away with it if they did it then.
I guess they're wrong, I'm closing my account and taking my money elsewhere.

Once Bankia bought out BMN

Once Bankia bought out BMN, the banking service went to hell, also they closed the branch that was across the street from my house. Also, I keep getting charged commissions 14€ / month, even though I have a monthly "nomina" coming in. I sent them an email asking why I keep getting charged commissions and they replied with an unhelpful boilerplate response. Banks are quickly becoming an antiquated expensive middleman that should be abolished, utterly useless.

Poor communication HELP

Shocking...I am sick to death of this bank, we have been trying for 6 months to get our internet banking access back up and running but getting nowhere, now they have blocked our account and we have had all international money transfers bounced bk, so we don't know what we have in acc, mortgage payments are likely to be missed and there charges will be mounting up, nobody in the branch answers phone or email and I'm getting nowhere with their international telephone number..The bank in uk thinks it's to do with non residents/ money laundering regulations and forms etc that need completing...we have had no correspondence about this, currently very frustrated and worried..anyone else come across this issue

Quite an appalling service

Quite an appalling service. After 5 months I have now had a call from Bankia about accessing my online account.
I just said in an email that if they do not sort this out today, I will block their email & telephone access to me and hand my apartment and mortgage back to them.
5 minutes later they called and sorted out my online access.
Good Luck!

Very bad

Very bad, with cheating advertisements that you don't pay commission if you open an account online. Totally lied. I started with MINUS 52 euros. I had to pay 28 euros for the yearly card, and 24 euros for service costs. Which service costs? Incredible, what a bunch of cheaters....

TERRIBLE BANK

TERRIBLE BANK. NEVER MAKE THE MISTAKE OF GETTING AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM. Terrible costumer service with untrained people, the local banks are just as bad. They blocked my account for no reason and kept blocking it for no reason!!!! my husband couldn’t get his pay check because of a « system error » and the bank person told us my husband was never paid which was a lie. They didn’t give him any information and his pay still has not entered the bank account and no one is giving us information. Honestly, this is a terrible terrible bank. we are opening an account with a better more reliable bank.

Absolute useless bank

Absolute useless bank! Cards always breaking, apparently their cards are not designed to be kept in a regular purse or wallet and I've been advised I should keep the card is a special plastic casing! Now on New Years they have blocked my account and told me I can't do anything until the 2nd of January when the bank opens again... avoid!!!

They block my card every week and say…

They block my card every week and say there's no problem with my card. The first week, they blocked my card and said it is because the website I entered is insecure, then the next week, they said it is because apple pay is problematic, so it is better I don't use apply pay.
In the third week, I did not even use apply pay or buy things on the websites, but only withdrew cash from the ATM..... I cannot stand that I have to get in the queue every week and unblock my card.

Disappointing

I got locked out of the app on my phone, (but not my ipad using same codes!)
When I went into “forgotten password” the app reverts to Spanish, and the call that comes with new code is also in Spanish and spoken very quickly, even though it came to my UK mobile.
So still locked out until I go back to Spain!
Now the app will not load on my ipad!
Needs some work On this app to accommodate someone who has not yet got to grips with Spanish.

The Worse Bank in Europe

Probably the worse bank in the Europe...5 staff in their branch and there are always queues. No telephone service for English speakers. Ridiculous bank charges. Card fees are debited even when you don't have one or want one! Labyrinthine use of passwords and layers of ID checks online that block access to online use of your account. If you want personal service you have to book flights, rent a car and go to the branch in Mallorca. Crazy, how this bank survives is beyond me....do not, please, I repeat, DO NOT open an account with this bank, Sabadell knocks spots off them. I have a mortgage loan with them and it's so difficult to pay them and monitor or assess its progress unless you can visit the branch because their online website is appalling customer unfriendly - they do not care about overseas customers. If I could extricate myself from Bankia and leave, I'd do it in a heartbeat!!

Absolutely Terrible - dont use this bank - Customer services terrible

Customer services terrible. Branches Terrible. Frozen account for over a year despite having produced all documents requested (non resident ID, Passsport, Tax details paid in England) Yet the bank still charge "service Charges"
Phoning from England to Spain and you get cut off from Customer Services and when eventually you do speak to some-one and you ask them "EXACTLY" what documents do you still need to see, they tell you to ring the Branch. The Branch does not answer and anyway the only English Speaking person has left so no-one knows. Unable to close the account whilst it is frozen and still lost of 70 euro's in charges. Had electricity cut off in Spain due to bills not being paid. Caused no end of trouble and still no end in sight.

No Problems with Bankia

I have never had any problems with Bankia having lived here 6 years. There is a dedicated help line for Bankia Customers in English on 916024643. Just press key 1 for English. You may have to wait a little while but they can access your account okay and help with your query. So if you not too good with Spanish these all speak fluent English obviously with Spanish Accent just to let you know.
