Stealing Donation

Benevity is NOT disbursing donations made to our organization. They do not respond to emails and you cannot speak to someone on the phone. Our non-profit, 501c3 is owed thousands of dollars that Benevity has stolen.

Benevity' Shoddy Reporting Practices

Benevity consistently releases donations before they upload a donation report. It can take days to learn the donor's information, and more often than not, the donation(s) were made the previous month.

That in itself is annoying enough, but often times they'll ACH the donation into an organization's checking account on the last business day of the month, thereby disrupting closing out that month's books because the donation report is multiple business days away from being uploaded.

Though they say, "Benevity is continuously looking for ways to serve our Causes better, and we hope to provide an improved reporting feature in the future." this practice has been going on for years.

Lack of efficiency on Benevity

Set up our charity on Benevity as a supportive corporate donor asked us to. States they are the global leader in workplace giving. Seems they are not the global leader in efficiency as still waiting for the electronic processing to be setup over 6 weeks later. Having read other reviews I’m concerned about the lack of efficiency in general and will delete the charity’s profile.

Benevity steals money from nonprofits. Period.

Benevity steal money from nonprofits.

The donor feels like they donated to charity through the Big Companies. The big Companies send the donor an email saying they are good people. Benevity takes the money. The Charity gets none of the money, nor any way to prove it unless they know exactly who gave it to them and when.

Computer answering machines and no way to talk to anyone. They only care what the big company says not what the charities say. So I think we should direct our complaint to the big companies to change from this scam artist to a real company.

Impossible to reset a password

Impossible to reset a password - after 4 tries - I give up. Unfortunate for organizations who leverage the application for employee participation events. Employees end up giving up on trying to enroll in anything.

Negative impact for Employees..

Donors are not getting us. Customer Service seems unable/unwilling to help

I have been trying to track down donations of several thousand dollars which appear on their reports as due to us, but which we have never received. I cannot talk to a real person at Benevity. Email exchanges never answer my questions. I am beginning to wonder if something unseemly is going on with the funds donated to our organization. Next step is to reach out to the Corporations who directed the funds to us.

My friend Nancy defeated cancer

My friend Nancy defeated cancer, and ran this year's Chicago Marathon to raise money to help others in their own cancer battles. She had a great race last Sunday 8 October, and I'm proud of her!

In August she let me know that she was raising money for the American Cancer Society. I was happy to help.

IF I had decided to contribute to her on-line web page, it would have taken me 5 seconds. My contribution would have been associated with Nancy's fund raising, and I would have confirmation that the ACS received my donation.

INSTEAD, I decided to contribute through the Benevity portal. After 5 weeks passed, Benevity claimed that my funds were "disbursed". But my contribution was never associated with Nancy's fund raising, and I have no independent confirmation that the ACS actually received my donation.

My rating for Benevity is 1 out of 5 stars.

Benevity does not payout as it says it does

I have a donor that does a weekly donation through his work for matching.

We had been with Benevity before this. With his donation we are supposed to get the funds the following month. However, that has happened once, the first disbursement. Since then, it's been irregular and mostly every 2 months. As of writing this we are going on 3 months, still no disbursement.

I have contacted Benevity 4 times now trying to find out why only to be sent "form" emails each time saying what their website says, that disbursements will be sent the following month of them receiving donations on our behalf. No one will address why our funds have not been deposited for the month due.

We run a no kill cat shelter and desperately need the funds that are always held up. We have autoship with CHEWY for our litter and treats and it's so embarrassing that we get sent 3 or 4 "payment declined" notices monthly because Benevity hadn't deposited our funds in our bank account. Then we end up having to pay out of pocket again for the cats needs while there is plenty money to cover these expenses in our Benevity account.

I'm looking to take our business elsewhere as we need a company that knows exactly how precious donations are for us to help these cats and make sure we receive them in time.

Scam!

I am so sad that this scam organization exists and takes money from trusted non-profits doing good work. We have 2 donations being "held up" with this company. Their customer service is non existent. I've tried and tried to find them on the BBB and submit a formal complaint and no luck. I honestly think they are a scam. We have someone who has written proof that their company has submitted 2 checks to us (through Benevity) and Benevity won't send to us saying they "need more information". I have reached out to them numerous times (email) with no response. It's obvious by other reviews I am not the only one. So sad they are scamming hard working non profits doing good work.

Benevity hold up donations

I volunteer for a cat rescue: Furrever cat and kitten rescue. In the Benevity site, it showed $22065 donation in April 30 sent to them already. However the cat rescue still have not received the fund in their bank account as of June 2023. I texted, emailed twice, left a voice mail, but still no response! I don't know how to escalate this issue, and Benevity is in Canada, if they ignore the claim, what can the small rescue do?

Benevity will not recognize our 501c3

Benevity will not recognize our 501c3. I have provided the company an IRS letter confirming our status; a link to the IRS website that confirms our status; and all the information it has requested. However, after three months of trying, Benevity still will not allow our nonprofit to register. This is an issue because now we cannot apply for a grant that we have received for the past five years.

Customer Service is nonexistent

Customer Service is nonexistent. As a non-profit trying to complete our profile, our profile shows up with extraneous "840" which we are unable to remove - and it now appears in our EIN! Have logged two support tickets. The automated response says "it may take us a few days to get back to you". Is 10 days too long to wait? I think so, especially for an EIN issue.

Misleading

Made a point of making donations on a particular date and pushed my budget so that I could maximize the match amounts beneficiaries were entitled to according to the website.

My donation receipt showed the wrong date and no match amount, so I contacted customer service. Their first response confirmed that my donations had been matched. Further along in the exchange, they made an about face and admitted that none of my donations had been matched.

I get that there has to be a limit to the match amount, but I made the donations in the amounts I did, when I did, and I made them through ATB/Benevity specifically because they claimed they would match those donations to a maximum of $500 each and send the increased funds to the charities.

I would have supported those charities through another process had I known the match amounts did not exist.

The fact that there’s no notice on the website telling donors when matching stops, and that donors are encouraged to donate funds in the misguided belief that beneficiaries will receive additional funds that don’t exist, strikes me as very disturbing, if not marginally fraudulent.

They don't provide proper receipts

They don't provide proper receipts, so employees are out thousands because they can't claim on their taxes.

And worse they make it sounds like they do, which means you could end up being guilty of tax fraud which is what happened to me.

Benevity marks donation "completed" and silently fails to deliver in >14 months

Benevity is a company that provides charitable donation-management platforms for corporations (eg. Nike, Coca-Cola, Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc). They do (1) verification of charitable organisations and (2) handle money transfers to them.

Money transferring service from Benevity is very bad:
- slow (best case 2-3 months, worst >1 year)
- not transparent: no full transactions history (initiated-sent-rejected/resent-received), no transaction breakdown (sent amount, fees, received amount)
- misleading (“completed” transactions not delivered >1 year)
- deceiving (unexpected fees are taken from your donations)

I know about the case when Benevity marked donations “completed” and failed to deliver them in 14 months, uncovered after cross-checking with the recipient org.

Benevity support is incompetent, took >2 months and dozens emails for them to acknowledge the issue. And extra 2-3 months to provide a one-off fix instead of a proper long term solution.

In comparison any international money transfer service would deliver (or return the money) in 1-5 business days (Benevity's best case is 2-3 months), provide full transaction history (when initiated, how much sent, conversion rate, fees, rejections/retries, delivery confirmation).

I would expect such a low quality for a small startup with limited resources, but Benevity is >13 y.o. company with $100 million revenue in 2019.
