Great service, great price
Renewed again for the 5th time! Such helpful staff and an amazing price for existing medical conditions. We’re fortunate not to have had to make a claim, fingers crossed we won’t have to find out how that’s dealt with!

I've used Blue Bear for my travel insurance for a number of years and I've always found their customer service people friendly and helpful. They provide holiday travel insurance including winter sports cover at a very reasonable cost.

Disappointing that after got a quote did not receive a call back from sales to finalise things the first time round.
Had to request a further quote as a result

Substandard protection
I've been with blue bear for a number of years. Always thinking they would provide protection in the event of problems with a booked holiday. It's only when you make a claim that you find out how good / bad a company is. We had booked an Easyjet flight and french apartment separately. Easyjet cancelled our flight and quickly repaid full cost. The french apartment refused to refund our deposit so I claimed through Blue Bear. Claim refused!! A cancelled flight did not fit their criteria!!. Our holiday could not go ahead. Very poor service!! Be careful!

We can confirm that our cancellation cover provides cover for your proportion of prepaid transport, accommodation & additional travel expenses, and pre-paid excursions booked before you go on your trip, that you cannot recover from any other source if you cannot travel due to your, a close relative, the person you are intending to stay with, or a business associate’s death, injury or illness, redundancy, required as a witness or member of the jury in a court of law, or the requirements of H.M. Forces.
Cover is only provided if:
• Cancellation is caused by yours, your travelling companions, the person you are intending to stay with, a business associate or your close relatives’ death, injury or illness, redundancy, requirement as a witness or member of the jury in a court of law, or HM forces requirements.
• The cancellation is not due to your existing medical condition, unless declared and accepted by us in writing.
• The cancellation is not due to an existing medical condition of a non-travelling close relative, the person you are intending to stay with, a business associate or travelling companion.
• Cancellation is not because of the failure of your travel agent, tour operator or due to the advice of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

Premium Increases
A sharp increase in the Medical side of the quote prompted me to consider changing the geographic cover. This however was met with a substantial increase in the base premium which would erode a large portion of any benefit from the adjustment on the Medical portion. This was somewhat disappointing as the annual increase in the overall premium is bordering on the point of searching for more economical premium.
If this happens next year I will seek alternative quotes.

Allow me to explain why this has occurred.
The reason for this is that xxx now falls into the same age bracket as yourself. Last year she was in the lower age category and we base our rates on our couple’s policies on the individual in the lower age bracket on our policies.
The Underwriters review rates annually, and where the claims experience suggests there has been a sufficient number of claims relating to a particular category of insurance, premiums are adjusted accordingly to reflect the risk involved. Subsequently premiums are either increased, decreased or remain unchanged.
The categories reviewed will relate to various age groups, destinations, sporting activities, trip durations, and other factors that may warrant particular circumstances being considered as a higher risk.
We trust this will help give you a better understanding of the process completed by our Underwriters when calculating rates and the factors they take into consideration and hope that you still find our prices to be competitive.

Although we have not needed to make a claim over the several years using BBTI we have been impressed by their responsiveness in tailoring any special requirements into a Trav Ins policy that fits at a reasonable premium!
