Terrible Customer service

Terrible Customer service, payment was taken for a six month subscription on the 3rd May. So far not a single book or bottle of beer has been received . No response to any email I’ve sent and I’ve asked for a refund. No phone number, written a comment on their fb page but it just disappears. Because under £100 I can’t get card company to issue a section 75. I am extremely annoyed. AVOID

I would give zero stars if I could

I would give zero stars if I could. Total con and a scam.

Two months after paying for a gift subscription, the recipient still hasn't received a thing. Books + Beer have invested in a snazzy-looking website but seem to have put zero thought into how the operations of a reliable service and customer service ought to work.

I've emailed several times and just get pithy responses along the lines of "it'll be soon, don't worry". I never get any specific responses about what has happened to my specific order.

I am going to have to pursue a refund through my bank.

Avoid

Ordered 3 book subscription as a gift, and received an email saying I would get a confirmation on the next working day. No email, and first book didn't arrive. Wrote to ask for confirmation of when it would arrive. No reply. Requested refund via PayPal.

I wish I could give this company 0 stars. Paid for a 6 month subscription at the end of March, one package received mid May after I sent several emails of complaint, their responses were bordering on rude. Nothing received since. Further emails of complaint this week, no reply. The worst company I have ever encountered.

SHAMBLES OF A COMPANY

Wish I had read these reviews before ordering from this shambles, like so many others, paid for subscription as a gift for my son, haven't had a delivery, just excuse after excuse. Have pursued a refund through my bank AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

I'm sad I didn't read these reviews before subscribing. An absolute con, they've taken 2 months worth of payment and no order has ever arrived. Anyone had any luck getting a refund/ reporting to trade standards?

Not a scam, just really badly executed .

Good idea, terribly executed.
They don’t actually send the order until you email them asking for a refund.
Order supposed to arrive by the end of the month, but by the 12th of the next month mine hadn’t arrived so I asked for a refund and they told me it must’ve been lost by Royal Mail. Based on what I’ve seen other people saying here, I don’t believe Royal Mail just lost everyone’s orders. So I asked for a tracking number so I could check and make a complaint with Royal Mail and they just never replied. Then 2 days later my order showed up with 48 hours delivery.
I mean fair play for sending the order in the end but why not just send it to begin with.
I’m not really sure what the business plan is, maybe hoping people just forget that they’ve paid for it and never complain that it never arrives. Horrendous customer service.

Scam - not delivered box!

Bought as a one off gift. States in their FAQs that boxes will be received by the end of the month (in this case April). Still not received and customer service just say that it will arrive soon. Do not value their customers - avoid at all costs!

Not a gift friendly service

Not a gift friendly service, will only deliver when they want to, slow customer service who can’t admit they are wrong, only received refund once PayPal told them to refund.

3 months into 3 month subscription and only 1 box received!

I purchased a three month subscription in February and so far only one box has been received. Their delivery service is clearly completely awry and although the responses to my increasingly more frustrated emails are generally prompt there has been no effort to rectify the situation, offer partial refunds etc. Hopefully the next two boxes will be received (I was told they were being sent out "this week" on April 4th and still nothing) but I would definitely not recommend BooksPlusBeer to anyone. Particularly when buying a gift because it's just shoddy and disappointing.

No complaints from me. Happy.

I tend not to write reviews but my experience of using this company is completely different to the ones stated more recently. I purchased a 3 month package as a late Christmas present for my dad and accidentally provided my address instead of my own, so I received the first month's book and beer. I emailed to ask if I could change the address and I received a rapid and friendly reply to say this would happen and it did. I did not keep on top of the timescales of delivery but we are now in March, so all 3 months of his present have been as stated and he actually enjoyed when the package came to the door. I have also been contacted to continue with the order and I think I will as it is his birthday soon.

Poor communication and customer service.

Another person who doesn't like giving bad reviews.

Whilst the product is generally great, the lack of tracking information on the products, coupled with the unhelpful customer support and lack of communication if the product is going to be late, this is the last time I purchase the product and I will go elsewhere if I wish to.

I wouldn't recommend purchasing from them. My first month of my three month purchase was 2/3 weeks late, and only came after I had emailed then several times and then they said we will 'send another one out', which came quickly, begs the question as to whether it was originally sent out or not.

Disappointing

I’m very reluctant to leave bad reviews of companies but I really would suggest people avoid purchasing from this company. I’ve bought a one-off box as a present for someone on three separate occasions and the delivery of all of them has been at least three weeks later than suggested on their website. The customer service is unhelpful and do not seem very apologetic about the late deliveries. I’ve given them the benefit of the doubt on more than one occasion now but I will not use this company again.

It’s a shame the delivery and customer service let the company down because I do think the products themselves are good and have always been well received as presents (all be it far later than I would like to have given them).

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. Such a dreadful service. I placed my order 2 weeks before Christmas which was for a Christmas present. They sent it out on the last delivery before Christmas so it arrived on the 29th. They blamed Royal Mail. They eventually agreed to accept a return but now refuse to refund me saying they have not received it. IN the meantime, they sent out another subscription 6 weeks after I paid for it and now expect me to send it back to them via the same method. They are blaming Royal Mail again. Customer service are so inexperienced as to make you want to cry.

Good Product but exceptionally poor…

Good Product but exceptionally poor service.

When everything is running smoothly it's good but I have had lots of issues.

Recently I moved and as with every move I went through all my subscriptions to change the delivery address and did so with B+B. Every other subscription began delivering to my new address without an issue except B+B. When I finally contacted them they told me that I had to email them about it for the change to take effect. In my communications they then had the audacity to suggest it was my fault since there was something in their FAQ section. It is ridiculous to have someone update their delivery address on their account and then expect them to also notify them via email as well. I didn't check the FAQ because I had changed my address and didn't have any further questions.

Through my communications with them there was no apology or any sense that they would try to resolve the issue. They kept insisting that if I wanted to get the packaged that they incorrectly addressed I'd have to pay for additional shipping.

My advice to anybody thinking to buy this is to check every month to ensure that they are sending the package follow up via email as often as possible on every little question and to monitor it regularly. Off the back of this experience I have decided it is more convenient to source my own books and beer as the poor customer service has rather defeated the purpose of a subsciption.

Deserves no stars

Trust all the poor reviews below . I wish I read this before ordering. Do not trust a company that does not have a Review page on its Social Media. This company is a fraud. Does not deliver your products. Does not respond to complaints. Disappointed beyond belief and just struggling now to get my money back. Will happily review this review if the company ever gets back to me with the actual product. But it has the feel of a SCAM! DO NOT BUY
