Test delivered very promptly but…
Test delivered very promptly but couldn't activate it with the barcode and couldn't get through to customer services. Took a lateral flow test instead. Waste of money. Stay away.
Very poor instructions
When registering the lateral flow day 2 test Boots asks for ‘the barcode on the tube’ - total nonsense, what they actually mean is the QR code on the test cassette. The whole process is extremely frustrating and not fit for purpose- it needs re-wording immediately.
Terrible instructions
Terrible instructions. Like others spent a good hour in frustration trying to find the right ‘barcode on the tube’! Having scanned and entered every barcode in sight without success read these reviews and one had pointed out it is the QR code on the test strip which is needed to activate ! Couldn’t find this information anywhere else!!
Boots Recova - poor instructions
We bought day 2 Lateral flow tests from Boots. They were delivered no problem whilst we were away. I spent over an hour trying to activate them. I had to try a different phone as mine kept crashing trying to take photos. The "barcode" is in fact the QR code on the test strip itself. I didn't know this until I googled the problem and these comments on Trustpilot came up. What a waste of time Boots, just hope you validate our results!
Misleading and soul-destroying
Shocking lack of clarity, guidance and support. For such a well recognised brand, dealing with such a significant matter, for which thousands are paying hard earned money for, this is an appalling kit, Boots. I bypassed other products for this, based on the Boots name. However, I was left feeling confused, stressed and angry. It shouldn't have to come down to TrustPilot users to provide the necessary guidance (thanks community!). "Barcode" does not equal QR code. Your app's inability to acknowledge acceptance of use of the camera, causing it to crash, is particularly soul-destroying. I could cry for the hour I just wasted trying to resolve this across various devices...
Diabolical website
Diabolical website. The kit arrived and I followed the instructions. Then they asked me for a booking reference number. The space provided was longer than the reference number they sent in the email. The whole process has taken 2 hours trying to work out what a QR code is how to save and then upload the photo. I've no idea if I've done this correctly.
Instructions absolute RUBBISH
Writing review on behalf of colleague right now. As James May would say: A load of total "cock". Awful instructions. Talks of a BARCODE on sample tube: there is none!! Reading below it appears it means QR CODE (Boots - take a gcse in IT). If that is not enough the code is not of the sample TUBE. The only tube is the chemical dispenser. It means the white plastic Lateral Flow test strip holder itself. Also I believe instructions say no good on Safari (Mac browser). The web page is beyond rubbish. Reading below from other users to help. Losing will to breath. Good luck. Edit forgot to say : test arrived on Day 5 (day 2 test).
All fine, but website a bit rubbish
We used Boots Recova-19 for Day 2 lateral flow tests - family of 3. We booked online. All 3 tests arrived on Day 2 (the day after we got home). Delivered by Royal Mail with email and SMS notifications letting us know when we’d get them.
We did the tests, registered them online and uploaded a photo, then got results the same day. (Submitted 1330, results 1830)
All good, although the portal / website is a bit crappy.
Not sure about all the comments here, as it seemed pretty straightforward from a mobile phone. Imagine it’s much harder on a laptop, as you can’t directly scan in the QR code. Anyway, here are some hints in case they help! :)
1) when you register it asks for an ‘identification photo’. It doesn’t mean a photo of you, it wants a photo of your ID document (passport)
2) the booking code you need for your Passenger Locator Form, and later to register your test, is at the bottom of your confirmation email. Ours started BOOTS*****
3) all the tests are going to come to the same address… be aware of that!
4) When you register the test make sure you USE YOUR MOBILE! A lot of the people experiencing issues seem to be trying to register on a computer.
5) Look for ‘activate test’ on the crappy portal Home page. Then select which family member’s test you want to activate.
6) When it asks you to scan a barcode, it means the QR code on the lateral flow cassette. Just click the box, a pop-up will ask for access to your camera, and you scan the code straight into the webpage. (No cutting and pasting and capital letters nonsense that others are saying!) When it asks in the next box to confirm the code, just scan it again!
Thank god other people on trust pilot…
Thank god other people on trust pilot had reviewed this and figured out where to get the code from! Follow the instructions from some of the other reviewers here and you'll get there, but 1. the Boots website is an utter piece of garbage - i had to re-enter information multiple times on each page before it saved correctly, 2. the instructions for this test are terrible.
One Star because Zero Stars isn't available
Boots-recova? Don't bova.
I got ripped off by cowboys last time so I paid a bit more for Boots, only to find out they've farmed it out to another company – who are so bad they don't provide contact details. I can understand why!
Only one test out of two arrived on time. 45 mins on hold for Boots customer services got another sent out. Today, one day after my Day 2, the missing test has turned up. Royal Mail tells me a third test is on its way too.
The website instructions for uploading test results ask for the barcode from the specimen tube – which has nothing printed on it.
53 mins on hold for customer services told me that they actually want the QR code from the test unit.
Their upload page starts up my camera in barcode reader mode (and barcode shape), not QR code reader mode. So it doesn't work. So I can't upload my photos and register my test result.
Customer services told me that's my fault. No. It's their outdated website (they accept the wording is wrong) which is at fault. I can only do what their page permits.
We're now on day 3, so overdue and breaking the law. At least the tests are negative.
As is my opinion of Boots.
Boots waste of time
Agree with other comments appaling, where do you enter your code, I cant see anywhere?
Boots just taking money for a crap service.
I will wait for somebody to contact me and then send photo.
I still can’t register
I still can’t register. Do you have to put in the whole code starting with COV1…?
Appalling instructions
Unfortunate ...
Agree - with below comments. Couldn't register, went to Boots store, nobody could help, tried to find a phone number without success. Reading below comments finally registered and now can't upload photo. Frustration since days ...
Losing my will to live
Losing my will to live. I thought trying to activate my mother's Testing for All was frustrating enough- this was another 4 levels of idiocy. HOW can Boots, a world wide, well known brand spanning decades of fantastic customer service, suddenly have such a useless, inadequate, frustrating and time wasting test- yet on the government's recommendation list? When time is limited for getting test results in, this has wasted my evening. I have only managed to get this result sent in thanks to the many other frustrated/ angry users on this review page (googled in total disdain and helplessness!) who have managed to work out that the instructions are completely incorrect and the incompetence is not due to the person needing the test but the actual company charging 20GBP plus for a cheap made in China home test. Daylight robbery of my time and money. I did NOT expect this. Absolutely please try another company for Day 2 lateral flow test. Boots- get your act together please! This is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Appalling service from Boots recova 19
Appalling service. Ordered and paid for day 2 Covid test for myself and husband. His arrived but not mine - there is no one to call or complain to and no obvious way to obtain a refund. Will do my own lateral flow test but the results cannot officially be uploaded.
Avoid…
As other have note instructions are dreadful. And after you do the upload there is no acknowledgement it has been received. Really really bad. Shame on you Boots.
I was on hold to Boots...
I was on hold to Boots and thought I'd check online :-)
Just to add that you don't need to type in the QR code to confirm registration, you can simply scan it a second time.
Day 2 test process VERY frustrating due…
Day 2 test process VERY frustrating due to inadequate instructions.
If you're unlucky enough to have bought a kit once you use the kit, to register you must enter the bar code on the kit tube. But there is no bar code on anything. Instead scan the QR code on the testing casette and copy the long code and paste it in to the code confirmation boxes.
What a nightmare process. The only upside is I thought I was a moron for not understanding the instructions so I was very glad to see on Trustpilot that I am not alone.
This would be such a simple process if the Boots instructions simply used the correct terminology. BAD JOB Boots - very disappointed that you successfully managed to waste over an hour of my time.
And the call centre is an even bigger joke. I think the words "we are very busy" is a politically correct version of "we offer terrible service and don't care about paying customers".
Dreadful instructions for registering test kit
Dreadful instructions for registering test…..thank goodness for the reviews explaining that you have to scan the QR code on the rectangular test pad itself, and add the reference given into the barcode section. Disappointing that Boots haven’t listened to the reviews and added a note onto their booking form, and an additional note that goes out with the test kit.
Ordered a Day 2 Lateral Flow Test
Ordered a Day 2 Lateral Flow Test, which didn’t arrive until Day 3. Called Boots on Day 2, and was informed that this was a Royal Mail issue. I can understand that.
Once I took the test, uploading the results was an absolute pain. Ignore everything written on the Recova-19 portal. What you need to do is scan the QR code on the test cassette/strip. This will generate a long code. Copy this in capital letters and register this onto your account. You can then upload the relevant results. Only figured this out thanks to the previous users on here.
