Headrow, Leeds - overcharge customers

Headrow, Leeds cafe nero, receipt CHK 24700 (41163 PaulaDenise).

I only wanted an Americano with full milk. I was asked if I wanted mild or strong; mild.

I didn't ask for any additions and handed over a £10 and asked for a receipt. As the change was less than I was expecting, I checked the receipt to see there had been an additional 30p charge for 'seasonal espresso' ... WHAT?! I never asked for a 'seasonal espresso'.

I returned to the counter and queried the 30p. The woman who served me said it was because I wanted a mild coffee and it's usual! WHAT?!

Later, I was in York, I went into cafe nero on Davygate. I explained the matter to the three staff members and showed them the receipt with 30p 'seasonal espresso'. All three, without hesitation said that the 30p addition is if I wanted another coffee, I think they said Brazilian and pointed over to the display. I said I only wanted an ordinary Americano with milk.

It seems that the staff at Headrow, Leeds deliberately overcharge their customers.

I did tell the woman I wouldn't return; she doesn't care and no doubt just rolled her eyes at me.

31.07.24 - Nero has failed 5o reply to my review. They clearly have bogus 'add on' scheme that unless you're savy and questions, they get away with it. Their coffee isn't that great, and was weak and definitely not worth the additional 'add on', aka 'extract money from customer scam', 30p

Racist behaviour by Marco in Camden

I would hlgenuinely give it a zero star if that were possible. I was at the Camden Cafe Nero just now (Underhill Passage) and got treated so badly by Marco! I had requested for a babyccino in a feeding bottle for my 19 month old - I mentioned I needed 190ml and no chocolate. Marco handed me 90ml babyccino with chocolate on top. I mentioned to him that it's too little and that the baby can't have chocolate. He was extremely rude a d said I can't expect more for free. So I said I was ok to pay but nobody had mentioned that earlier - but he just wouldn't serve me again! I had to wait until a different colleague came and offered to charge me for the extra milk and specifically asked how much I wanted to which I mentioned 190ml. Marco took the bottle from the lady, filled it with cold milk upto to about 300ml (way beyond the safe to fill mark on the bottle (clearly marked) and handed it back to me! So now I had paid, got cold milk and beyond the spilling point, with chocolate marks all over!!! This man was not just rude, he wouldn't look into my eyes and fed my 19 month old chocolate!!! If he hates his job so much perhaps he could look for something else instead of taking his frustration out on others, or does he just not like serving Indian customers?!? I hope this behaviour affects his end of year review.

I contacted their customer service on…

I contacted their customer service on 10/June/2024 regarding quality of milk shake which was literally milk, ice and chocolate powder mixed in the blender and costed £4.60 at Heathrow T.2.
No reply and I reminded them again on 22/06/2024 and still no reply to date.09/07/23.
So if you have any issues with their services or products ...well good luck.

Nero Cirencester

Nero Cirencester. The toilet was out of order. I was desperate so had to go in. The most filthy toilet cubicle I have seen for a long time! Everything was filthy including the sink! Not particular clean inside the shop either. Luckily I had a bottle of Pepsi! The manageress obviously isn't happy in her job as she said to a customer that she wished she was outside too!!

What a disappointment

What a disappointment. Harrow Cafe. I waited for a small coffee as though the girls were making coffee for a queue of people. Took ages. There was me and another guy. One girl just stood there looking at the other making coffee and chewing gum with her mouth open, leaning on a worktop. Not a nice look
When I got my coffee l had to ask if l could have chocolate on the top. They both looked at me as if l had asked for gold!!
I always try and share my coffee with all the shops but compared to Costa, Pret and others, l will not be spending money here anytime soon

I won't be returning!

I had the Brazilian blend cappuccino and a friend had the 'house' version. Neither were nice coffees! In fact, yuk. Not impressed.
I used their toilet facilities (lincoln branch) and they needed a really good clean; the actual toilet was gross(a good blast of bleach wouldn't go a miss but there was faeces all around the toulet bowl)and the floor was REALLY dirty.
I will not be returning!

The very unusual guest, The Nero cat hay. ( Bless her. )

We was on holiday. And I popped in for a coffee. And I was shocked to see a totally different guest there. She was a very sweet cat, As I walked by and noticed her sat there so comfy in a chair , She looked at me and meowed. The owner must of been outside having a smoke. When I asked the man about the cat, he said her name was Sheba, and she was a special guest. Then he said Sheba was a Nero cat, Then the man behind the bar said Sheba was talking to him, As I looked around at the cat she looked directly at the man behind the bar and looked into his eyes as she was meowing chatting away to him. Looked like she was calling him over, when I went up to be served, She just looked at me talking chatting away, she is so sweet. The man behind the bar was laughing she was talking to him as she kept looking over at him calling him over. He was laughing and he said Sheba was his little friend and a very special guest, as well as the owner. They are best friends, the cat loves him I can tell by watching how she was with him. Apparently the owner has to leave her in the chair when she has a smoke, the cat always refuses to leave the cafe, so obviously Sheba won’t go with the owner outside, so the owner leaves her sat in the chair until she’s finished then goes back in with her. Yes by the sound of it she is defanatly a very sweet Nero cat. She is a cutie cat she is so chatty and very sweet, she loves her best friend, the guy behind the bar. This was in the evening I popped in there. There was no cue at the time. At first as I came thru the door there was no cue, the member of staff was stroking the cat laughing, she looked like she was really soppy with him I saw her licking his arm kissing his arm just looking up at him. It was so sweet, The man then said she was his favourite guest, I have never seen a cat sat on a chair in a caffe before, she just looked at me as I walked by chatting away to me meowing and saying hello talking to me in her own little way. She is so affectionate, I just had to stroke her. So they have a special Nero cat in there. So sweet. Xxxxxxx
I love it, bless Sheba she is a sweet cat. She really likes it in there, and looks so comfy in her chair. Sheba is so cute, iv’e never seen a cat in a caffe or on a leash before. I guess she was going on a walk, and saves her from being run over she must be in a new town studying the new routes getting to know London. So hopefully she can play out on her own. This was an exiting day for me, seeing the Nero cat so sweet. Chatting away to her best friend. As she was looking at him at the same time.

A couple of months ago I had the Nero…

A couple of months ago I had the Nero app - a coffee no. 1 store opened using another account of the app!! There were problems in store and the manager was helping people with Nero apps to sign up

It has now been several weeks of discussion almost daily and still zero resolution. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve asked the question can I use Nero at No. 1 and vice versa … no one has actually answered it

The most common response is we’ve sent a password reset to an email address (never gives me a clue which email address) so a) I never get the reset and b) can’t add my phone number to my account as it’s used for verification - to have one method of verification when it’s potentially wrong on their system causes so many issues

I can even verify my bank by phone or email - and this is coffee not a bank!!!!

This causes so many issues and it’s the same parent company/tech support one app could have been used and cause less issues

Ive gone from being a daily Nero user finding both apps are not responding to being forced to have used competitors because I have zero issues - ask yourself - would you deal with weeks of issues? Mostly because they don’t read the issue, just copy and paste a response!! Patronising!!

Update after a dozen weeks - it’s finally sorted …. Far too long

Unhelpful and never any bread rolls…

Unhelpful and never any bread rolls with the soup, which is part of the deal. They just can’t be bothered to do it at Banstead. Always excuses too. I’ve stopped going there since staff were rude to me.
Just because it’s busy, shouldn’t mean standards should drop. It’s also looking shabby.

The entire toilet area was filthy dirty

The toilet (only one working!) in Caffè Nero Ballyhackamore, Belfast was by far the dirtiest I’ve ever seen in a public place. To say it was filthy would be an understatement
- the floor, skirtings, exposed pipework, wash basin, walls, ceiling - everywhere was bogging. I’m feeling sick even thinking about it.

We visited Hexham branch through the week on several occasions. On each visit it was difficult to get a seat as it was full upstairs with people on laptops working and having zoom meetings with looked like they’d just had the one coffee

Service with attitude.

Been a customer for 15years at Hollywood but am now avoiding this branch. The staff are surly to the point of hostility.Tables are left uncleared even when they have time to clear them .
They excel at service with a scowl.

The refurb has been disappointing as basics are not improved.-Like having real cups for drinks!!

Only cardboard cups again! The dishwasher has been broken since the refurb over a week ago-and this is not the first time. Sadly the recent (two weeks ago!) refurb at Caffe Nero Station Road Chingford is quite meagre-still filthy ceiling and horrible toilet -no new dishwasher and the existing one as usual does not work! There is a great Costa next door and some very nice independent cafes in the high street a few yards away including Wake Cup and Dada where they have real cups and lovely coffee! The hardworking staff at Caffe Nero are fantastic and one of the reasons we carried on going, as well as having made friends with good natured customers and their good natured dogs. Caffe Nero step up or I shall be taking my custom elsewhere. Very basic improvements needed-ensure we can drink from real cups rather than cardboard ones-it is not meant to be the Nero Express as on stations with cardboard cups to take on trains which I use on my way to work. Renew the toilet fittings.Clean the ceiling and the horrid large filthy air conditioner. Also, many customers go to spend quite a lot of money on coffee and food while working on laptops-even having a table big enough for a laptop is no longer so possible-there are now instead some tiny round ones not big enough for a laptop and coffee cup, let alone for two people to sit at together with their drinks. Value your customers and your staff!

Oops! App Glitch Not Okay...

I've always been a huge Cafe Nero fan and appreciate that they were one of the first chains to introduce the loyalty card. That is until they moved the card to the app. Now, a completed card just disappears when full(in my experience) and I have heard many other customers bemoaning the same thing. Such a shame but I never had this problem with the Costa app so maybe it's time to switch.
