I was very disappointed with my recent experience using Collecting Cars Australia and feel other buyers should be aware of how little certainty there seems to be for bidders, even in a no-reserve auction.

I successfully won Lot 85676 – 1992 Honda City, located in Sydney, Australia, at the close of a no-reserve auction. As soon as the auction ended, Collecting Cars immediately charged my credit card A$2,200 for the buyer’s premium. Within minutes, I also received an email confirming the purchase.

Shortly afterwards, I received a phone call from a Collecting Cars representative advising that the seller was unhappy with the final result and had decided not to proceed with the sale.

I was then told a refund would be processed. Unfortunately, this did not happen promptly. The refund took more than three weeks, and I only received it after repeatedly chasing the matter myself.

Customer service was poor throughout the process. I sent several follow-up emails and never received a single written response or confirmation. Communication was limited to a few phone calls, including one advising that the refund would be processed, which then still required further follow-up from me when it did not happen.

No goodwill gesture, compensation, or meaningful apology was offered for:

* Losing the opportunity with vehicle I had won
* Having funds held for more than three weeks
* Time spent chasing updates and the refund
* Poor communication and lack of written responses

I was also advised that the seller would be charged a fee for not completing the transaction, yet nothing was offered to the buyer who was left inconvenienced.

My takeaway is that a no-reserve auction on Collecting Cars appears to offer buyers very little certainty if a seller changes their mind, and you will have to chase your money back.

Poor customer service and a frustrating overall experience. I would think carefully before bidding again.

I fancied a Sunday car looking for a Classic came across CC about a year ago and have been following them now for over a year now, Recently a classic Mercedes came up on their website and followed and bided for this car unfortunately the auctioned ended as it didn’t hit the reserve, 5 minutes later I got a call from CC explaining that my bid was near to the reserve price and they could do a deal but the best thing was Sam wasn’t pushy it was a great chat explaining the car in detail and discussing the condition, the conversation lifted my confidence in the Car and mostly I was buying this from Professional but yet personal source.

5 days later, the car is at home now, start-to-finish CC, and the seller has been 5-star throughout the process, even after-sales.

What a brilliant company, just everything about it is professional and so in touch with what is happening. You could not ask for a better company to sell your Vehicle. 1st class service.

Selling my car was made very easy by helpful staff that kept in contact regularly. Quick and easy way to sell a car.

The website is really well done and organized, the possibility of seeing the upcoming cars before they're actually auctioned creates the right amount of tease.
On assisting in the sale all I can say is that the contacts were immediate and the followup was nice, but I could manage everything easily directly with the seller (wonderful person) without need for assistance.
In my case (not needing assistance for dealing with the seller) maybe the commission fee is a bit high, it could be worth investigating a reduction in cases like mine.
But all in all it was a good experience

I, unfortunately, had to sell my late Dad’s car. I knew he had purchased it from Collecting Cars so thought that was the best route to go down for selling again. I got in touch with Hugh quite early on and he was extremely helpful. Cars, especially fairly unique cars, are not my thing. Hugh was great through the whole process, advising what he thought the car would realistically sell for, recommending a photographer and setting up the auction. Once the auction was live I was assigned a new consignment specialist but Hugh still checked in and even made contact as soon as the auction was finished to discuss the result. Which I was more than happy with. He helped me to maximise the potential of the car and I really appreciate his help. Anyone who is assigned Hugh is in for a positive successful experience!
Definitely sad to see my dad’s car move on but also grateful for the smooth process to get it to this stage.

Recently sold a car thru Collecting Cars and the experience was first class. Fynn handled the initial enquiry and the actual listing, and then Sam managed the auction process. More than happy with the outcome and their communication was excellent - always available for any questions.

Collecting Cars had the car I wanted. The auction didn't hit the reserve, but Andrew was able to broker a deal suitable to both parties, by also sacrificing some of their own commission to achieve a deal

Great Service from the guys at collecting cars

As a collector, I have sold 4 Porsches through Collecting Cars over the last 18 months. However, I am now forced to doubt their impartiality in their auction process. A recent dispute has resulted in their representative describing the successful bidder who refused to complete the purchase of another one of my cars as their "client". Forgive me for believing that, under any circumstances, the seller is the client and the rules of auction should be enforced, no matter who the bidder is or how many cars he may have previously bought. Excellent and efficient service from Oliver Valentine, from the initial consignment of my vehicle right through to its final sale. Communication was outstanding throughout the entire process, and I was kept fully informed at every stage. Oliver made the whole experience seamless and stress-free. Given great advice by Collecting Cars advisor Hugh Adam’s on possible value and given that a reserve was not possible. However in the event the car made more than my thoughts on a possible reserve price and indeed exceeded my expectations. There were slight technical difficulties with the site through the auction period which were resolved quickly and efficiently. All in all a great sale experience and bearing in mind I had previously bought a replacement vehicle I am more the happy to confirm my positive views on both purchase and sale. Very worthy 5 star review 👍👍👍
