We had a lovely weekend in Thistle Lodge, spotlessly clean, well equipped, seriously comfortable bed which i slept like a log on both nights in. Very peaceful and relaxing, lovely well maintained hot tub which we enjoyed a lot. Hot shower. Cosy feel, just perfect for a romantic getaway less than a minute walk from the nearest pubs. Convenient parking.

Peace, Lakeland views and a Hot Tub

My wife and I had a great stay in Thistle Lodge. The hot tub was perfect for a relaxing evening looking across the fells. The lodge itself was very cosy and spotlessly clean. They are located far enough out of the village to be quiet at night, but two minutes from the first pub. The village centre is only a five minute walk. Thoroughly recommend a stay for a peaceful break.

Worst nights sleep ever!

Stayed at the Willow Lodge for 2-nights (27th to 29th Jun 26) - worst nights sleep I've ever had. The mattress had broken springs throughout and was completely sunken. Removed the mattress cover and found stains all over it. Also tried to open the only window to the lodge as it's very warm inside. The window was blocked by a wooden bench. Had to go outside to move the bench and it completely fell apart. Also, the allocated parking space besides the lodge is covered in nettle plants which overhang into the parking space - was stung on several occasions getting in and out of my car. Contacted reception immediately after the first night - said they would look into it but absolutely no follow up for the duration of my stay. I asked to make a complaint and was then emailed by manager Rachael who said the issues have now been addressed by their maintenance team AFTER I had checked out. The images and descriptions on their website make the lodge seem very luxurious and of a high-standard but it is far from it. Avoid at all costs.

**Response - The reply from Coppermines is an absolute lie. When I spoke to Philippa on Sunday morning, she stated the previous guests didn't make any complaints about the mattress and that they had slept in and didn't check out until after 11am so they must have had a good sleep. Unfortunately, Trustpilot doesn't allow you to add images but I have added some to Google which shows the mattress as extremely old and worn, with stains present - it certainly wasn't 'damaged by the previous guest' as stated by Coppermines. The 'mattress topper' mentioned was an offer to lay some extra duvets on top of the mattress which would not have resolved the issue.

Regarding the nettles, they should have been cut back as part of regular maintenance and definitely prior to any guest arrival.

In terms of the partial refund, I paid £310 for 2-nights and asked for a 50% partial refund, which I believe was reasonable given 2-sleepness nights. Coppermines only refunded me £50 which is around 15%. They stated '£50 is sufficient for the minor maintenance issues reported' however the issues were very far from 'minor'.

Thank you for your review of your stay at Willow Lodge. We are sorry you experienced issues with the bed in Willow Lodge.

We now understand that the bed was damaged by the previous guest. Unfortunately, as the issue was reported to us on a Sunday, we were unable to complete the repairs until the next day (Monday) when a new mattress and new slats were installed.

Similarly on Monday the nettles were cut back following your report of them becoming overgrown.

However I understand that our team member who took your call on the Sunday of your stay, along with our housekeeping team, did their utmost to resolve all your other complaints so we do not accept that there was no follow up taken. You were offered a mattress topper but refused as you claimed it would be too hot. We resolved all the other issues you raised as soon as possible, however it was not possible to replace the mattress on the Sunday of your contact - this was done the following day.

For this reason, we issued you with a partial refund as a goodwill gesture.

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us.

After you made contact with us, we issued you with a partial refund against your stay as a goodwill gesture.

Premium prices, absent maintenance and disappointing customer service

We booked 1 Dixon Ground through Coppermines for a family weekend away to celebrate a 40th birthday. Unfortunately, what should have been a special occasion was overshadowed by the condition of the property and, more importantly, the way our concerns were handled.

The property cost £1,208 for three nights. Although we were allowed access slightly before the advertised 5pm check-in, we encountered numerous maintenance, cleanliness and safety issues, including a collapsed bed base, a stair handrail partially detached from the wall, an exposed carpet gripper, a light fitting hanging from the ceiling, a cracked window, an old fridge that struggled to keep food and drinks cold, and no sharp kitchen knives at all. When investigating the collapsed bed base we found thick dust, multiple food wrappers and rubbish underneath, together with insects along the skirting behind the bed. We also found food residue on kitchen utensils.

I visited the Coppermines office to collect knives and report the maintenance and safety concerns. Whilst another member of staff was polite, professional and helpful throughout, I found the Managing Director’s response defensive and unnecessarily rude. Rather than listening to the concerns, I felt I was made to feel like I was causing a problem simply by reporting them.

The Managing Director also confirmed he was already aware of the cracked window and told me the property owner had refused to replace it. Coppermines later provided a different explanation in writing, stating that replacement had been delayed due to National Park planning restrictions and the property’s conservation area status.

Coppermines eventually provided a £100 refund. As I did not feel this reflected the seriousness of the issues, I referred the matter to Airbnb. After reviewing the evidence, Airbnb repeatedly requested that Coppermines provide additional compensation, but this was declined. Airbnb also confirmed they had taken formal action against the host account following the maintenance, cleanliness and safety concerns that were reported.

Maintenance issues can happen in any property, but the true measure of a company is how it responds. Sadly, I felt Coppermines fell well short of the standard I would expect from a company marketing premium holiday accommodation. I hope the issues have now been addressed, but based on our experience I would not book through Coppermines again or recommend them to others.

A Beautiful Retreat.

We stayed at Tower Cottage, Far Sawrey from 12th-16th May 2025. This cottage could not have been more perfect. It was away from everything and everyone, set back and secluded at the top of a hill, where you then ascend about 25 steps. However, the view from the seating area (balcony) was breathtaking. All you can hear is the breeze through the trees, the sound of the birds and the far off sheep bleating. We watched the bunnies running about on the hill at the side and on the lawn. This was a perfect place for us to relax, unwind and forget the pressures of life. It had everything we needed as far as amenities are concerned, including a dish washer, and the bed was extremely comfortable. I would definitely recommend this property. If you enjoy some light walking there is a lovely little walk down the hill and across the meadow to Near Sawrey - about a mile each way - if you want to post a letter in the post box featured in the Peter Rabbit book. Alternatively, if you fancy a slightly longer walk, you can take a leisurely wander up Moss Eccles Tarn from just below this property, where there is a pretty little lake where William and Beatrix Healey used to keep a small boat. From there you can then walk down to Near Sawrey (for a drink at the Tower Bank Arms - also featured in a Beatrix Potter book) and back over the meadows to Far Sawrey, whilst picking up a piece of home made cake from a cool box in the lane for £2.00.

Satisfactory

After reading all the positive feedback in the guestbook for slater bob's I feel a bit mean writing ours but I feel these few things let down our short time here,
The dishwasher was flooded so could not be used and trying to wash up after a family of 4 was difficult in the small sink and drainer, the croq pot wouldn't fit in the sink and the tap doesn't reach over the sink enough and floods the worktop everytime I washed up.
The downstairs toilet did not flush so we all had to use the upstairs bathroom,
The logs for the fire didn't burn properly and smoked alot.
I have my own log burner and not experienced this problem before so not sure if the logs were damp.
And on our last day I burnt myself very badly on the bathroom radiator by stepping to the side whilst getting dry, I will be seeking advice on this as there were no signs of warning of excessively hot or protective covers,
And lastly we were bitten a few times presumably fleas, the place needed a good clean, it was dusty and I dropped some money that rolled under the sofa so moved it to retrieve it and discovered pet hair, sweet wrappers and dirt, I felt disappointed paying £700 and not being able to check in till 17.00pm friday then expected to leave by 9.30am Monday, so my actual 4 day booking was 2 full days.

However the house is a lovely building and the location is great. We enjoyed walks and exploring the area before settling down and playing board games for the evening.
The children slept together then on our 2nd night we discovered the sofa is a bed which wasn't mentioned so we then used this so they could sleep separately.
We found ample plugs to charge devices and dvd's, games and
playing cards which was a nice touch.
We have had a satisfactory Christmas
break.
Update: in response. A radiator should not give 2nd degree burns and require medical attention. I have not lied or given an unfair review. And your response via email just shows me how you value a customer's stay.
You are the ones who have lied and quite frankly I am appalled at your response and lack of empathy. You were more bothered about this review this morning. Not once was I asked how I was. Disgraceful !

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your stay at Slater Bob’s.

We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with aspects of you stay. We are also sorry if you burned yourself on the radiator when it was switched on. We have spoken to the owners of the cottage and they will be placing a sign next to the radiator to advise it gets hot. We do not routinely place signs on radiators to advise they get hot, as hotness is usually assumed, however this is something we will look into in future to prevent any future guests from coming into contact with heating appliances.

With regards to your check in time. 5pm is the latest we advise that guests will be able to enter the cottage.

I can see from our records that you requested a 1pm check in.

I can also see that you were contacted at 12.41pm on the day of your arrival to advise that the cottage was ready and you were able to check in then – over 4 hours earlier than the latest check in time, and earlier than your requested check in time of 1pm.

Similarly I can see that you were given an 11.30am check out time.

We can confirm that there are no traces of fleas in the cottage whatsoever. The cottage’s rural, mountainous location with nearby water sources means that midges are often present in the garden and surrounding area. Particularly during the mild weather we have seen this weekend. The single bite which you received and showed a member of our team was most likely a midge bite. You admitted to a member of our team that this was most likely the cause of your bite.

We are sorry if you experienced an issue with the dishwasher during your stay. Had we been advised of this directly, as opposed to putting it in a review after you have departed, we would have sent a member of our maintenance team to address the issue. We do ask, in our terms and conditions to which you agreed, that guests inform us of any maintenance or housekeeping issues as soon as possible during their stay so we can put things right to prevent any issues negatively impacting upon your stay. Our housekeeping and maintenance teams are available 7 days a week to address any problems with may arise during a guests stay.

We spoke with the housekeepers who cleaned the cottage before your arrival and they confirmed that the dishwasher was in perfect working order prior to your check in. They had cleaned the filters and put the dishwasher on a 90degree wash while they were cleaning the cottage. They also checked the loo flush which was also working perfectly. As soon as we received this review, we attended the cottage and found that yes, the flush had broken during your stay. Had we been informed of this, we would have fixed the issue during your stay to prevent it from causing any further issues to your holiday.

Upon receiving this review three members of our team immediately went to the cottage to speak to you and investigate the issues you have raised. We could have attended earlier had you contacted us directly.

The sofa bed to which you refer, is not listed in the cottage’s description as it is for personal use by the cottage’s owners only. The cottage is advertised as sleeping 4 guests, which are all accommodated in the cottage’s main beds as they are described.

We are pleased to hear however that you enjoyed the cottage’s location and enjoyed some of the many local walks.

Wouldn’t use them again.

Stayed at their Netherbeck cottage. When we arrived the cottage smelt horrible and it hit us as soon as we opened the door. When looking around we noticed dog hair all over the sofas and upstairs in the bedroom, we accepted it was dog friendly but it wasn’t cleaned properly before our arrival. Emailed the company twice and didn’t receive a response. Awful service and will not return.

Coppermines Tanderra Coniston

If a zero was available this would not be one star

The cottage is very well appointed with great views. However the leasing agent Coppermines is some cause for concern. The accomodation had not been cleaned appropriately, cellar spiders (big ones) behind the TV x2, also in the doorway to the balcony, in the hallway and main bedroom, obviously the associated cobwebs present throughout.

The parking allocated to this property is not suitable for a car....full stop. Whilst advertised as steep, narrow and not suitable for 'low slung sports cars' when booking via phonecall I did question and discuss this with Coppermines and was assured it would not be an issue. I have stayed in a cottage close to this property and, when booking, was assured that if I could get there it would be fine. Arriving at the property it is only suitable for a 4WD vehicle, I have sustained significant damage to the front of my car due to the unsuitability of the parking. When I reported this to Coppermines, I was met with arrogance initially......Stephen who works there has no problem parking his Fiat Panda in the allocated parking......ignorance...basically refusing to respond to a complaint...and denial.....a legal 'positioning' statement from Pamela pointing to the small print and my responsibility because I'm the driver. Shame on you Coppermines.....I expected something better for the price. I will not be using your services in the future.

Not the best

Stayed at the Tower cottage Far Sawry in July 23. We had a cottage for 4- 3 toilet rolls for the week, no logs and the weather at times was biblical, no welcome pack not even a tea bag how mean. A cleaning pack was given to us - we took home. There was an issue with smoke alarm in second bedroom going off for super long periods during the night - this really disturbed my friends, some maintenace person came out next day -no apology from the company no good will gesture given them time but now 2 months on nothing. The cottage was clean- needs some maintenance- no information re groceries just that there is shops in Hawkshead -small coop thankfully we book a delivery from Morrisons. Taking rubbish down on last day took ages to find bins VERY Late check in 5pm (sorry Sars Covid-19 is over) and SUPER early check out 930 am. We ate once at the Cuckoo Brow pub pricy and ok the beer selection was good. Thankfully we had our delivery. Visited Hill Top - although you need to book go late in the day as rammed and time bookings mean loads of people which you were unable to enjoy. Would I stay here again probably no as other companies are WAY better (Just back from Cottages.com- luxury for same price)- being more generous we dont want a silly cleaning kit we are not here to do a full clean. The WIFI was pretty dreadful we took the lap top to watch catch up of the Tour De France - never happened so not great - took a while to find the dirty card with WIFI code- staff were rude and dissmisive when I called. Sadly great views but a rubbish mean company.

Waingarth Cottage

Waingarth Cottage, Satterthwaite
After our stay, Coppermines emailed me a feedback form which I promptly filled in and returned, together with far more realistic photos than the ones they published. Funny that, I have had no reply back, not even a 'thank you' for my time and effort. I see on the property details that there are 'testimonials.' However, I see no way MY testimonial could appear there; as it appears they are carefully selected. I would upload my photos here if I could. Anyhow they show how filthy the cottage was, with bloodstained bedding, cobwebs, a grimy and rusty unused Aga and much of the kitchen covered in dirt and dust. The equipment and appliances were not only cheap; they were also old and grotty. Not what you would expect for £1200 a week. It was a serious rip off.

Booked with Coppermines. Had no problem moving the break due to the pandemic. However my issue was after we arrived at a truly terrible cottage. We ended up going home two days early and I wrote a long email explaining how terrible the place was and all the things that needed fixing. I got a thanks for telling us email which really felt like was a brush off.

COVID-19 GLOBAL PANDEMIC AND TRAVEL BAN AND YET THE WOULD STILL NOT REFUND EVEN AFTER SAYING THIS...

20/3/20 1.39 - "We are not currently offering refunds on bookings. As previously stated there are currently no travel restrictions in place for Cumbria. Obviously should this change then we will, at that time, take appropriate action"
20/3/20 - 5.37 "Until such a time as a mandatory travel restriction is imposed our standard booking terms and conditions apply"

2 hours later Boris announces all "non essential travel" is banned. AND STILL NOT REFUND AGREED 6 DAYS LATER.

THERE ARE MANY OTHER HOLIDAY COTTAGE COMPANIES IN THIS AREA THAT WE HAVE USED IN THE PAST AND NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES LIKE THIS. WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK.
