Direction Law is a firm proudly built on relationships. With staff of around 180, offices in London, South East, South West & the Midlands and 45 years of experience, we are one of the most established and largest specialist affordable housing solicitors in the country. In 2020 and 2021 we were awarded Highly Commended in the First Time Buyer Reader’s Awards in the Best Law Firm for Conveyancing category. We are a friendly, professional firm and we pride ourselves on communicating with our clients, clearly and concisely. While other firms may have conveyancers who deal with a variety of affordable housing cases, we have taken it one stage further and have individual dedicated teams specialising in either new build shared ownership, resale sales and purchases, or new build/Help to Buy respectively: thus, ensuring greater expertise. Our goal is to progress cases to exchange and completion as swiftly as possible, resulting in a satisfied client who has achieved their dream of home ownership with the minimum of fuss. Direction Law - I’d never use again
This is my first post on Trust Pilot. I had an awful experience with Direction Law.
I bought a one bed in Balham, South London, and it took over 10 months to finish enquires and complete, a ridiculous length of time. I got a real sense that they weren’t moving things along, pressuring the other side for responses to enquiries and not taking any real interest in me as a client.
I would have to chase for any updates, and updates were always vague and generic (“we have emailed the other side” even when certain enquiries into routine issues were months overdue and stalling the entire process).
My process took far too long, with poor communication and no urgency. And with that terrible experience, in the end they cost me over £3,000.
I have since spoken to friends who have recently completed, who told me their processes, took between 8-12 weeks and I am left utterly perplexed that Direction Law could take almost a year on a one bed flat, in a new build.
The lack of communications (which only picked up in a final month), complete lack of urgency on chasing the other side or apply any degree of pressure to get responses to enquiries, is tangible evidence that they either don’t prioritise providing a decent, timely service to clients or are incompetent.
In sum, Direction Law made the experience of buying my first property even more stressful and anguishing than it had to be. With a baby on the way, watching my peers view, make an offer, and complete in a third of the time leaves me thinking that Direction Law are amateurs.

DL has a lot to improve
My experience with Direction Law was not the best, and worth sharing as it may help other buyers decide whether this company is the right one for them.
Like many others, Direction Law was recommended by my Housing Association. As a first time buyer, I was clueless about the process and I had little to no guidance on what to expect.
The process of buying is one of the most stressful and having some guidance is essential.
I was constantly sent letters/documents to sign off with little to no explanation what I was putting myself into.
The housing association lease can be very restrictive and ambiguous, the legal team hasn't highlighted anything about the purchase / searches / lease to me. I was constantly being pro-active asking questions and getting questions.
At times, I was pointed to look for answers with the Housing Association directly. (Shouldn't my solicitors be guiding me?)
God knows if I missed anything important from the lease.
Throughout the whole process, it felt they were not working for me, but for the Housing Association. I have even found out they were in direct contact with my Housing Association rather than solicitors. (is this even allowed?)
The last straw was on exchange date: it didn't happen and completion was supposed to be on the following day.
Coming the completion date: I have two different teams telling me conflicting information that exchange hasn't happening and another one saying to not worry that exchange/completion should happen at the same time.
All in all the process was quick, but it was done with very little support and I wouldn't go with them again.

Overall the process was very good.
One thing that could improve is, giving me customer a full break down of the entire process and how much it will cost overall.

Deceptive untrained legal advisors
Deceptive untrained legal advisors. They work with housing associations and building company hand in hand. And provide enough information for the sale in the builders favour. There complaints procedure is non-existent and in the process of asking the law society to intervene. I do not trust this company.

Lack of communication between the different officers that deal with the case which caused delays. Lack of communication with myself, I asked for a phone call multiple times but never received one back just an email that barely answered what questions I had.
Some were ok with getting back to me at the end but overall the communication is lacking.

Great experience
Had an amazing experience with Devron who help us through the process very kind, patient and helpful. Very good communication throughout the process. Couldn’t praise and appreciate the company enough for all the work and help they provided would definitely recommend.

100% would not recommend
I had a terrible experience with Direction Law and would not recommend them to my worst enemy! Every single member of the team was extremely difficult to get hold of - they would constantly be so slow at replying to their emails and would never pick up the phone. They made the process of buying my new house so unbelievably stressful and caused multiple delays throughout the process. If I could have given them 0 stars I would have.

Do not recommend
I have been so disappointed with Direction Law throughout the purchase of my property. As a first time buyer they didn't take any time to explain processes to me, ignored questions I had and expected me to read between the lines despite me asking for clarity on several occasions. My compliance officer made countless mistakes which led to delay after delay. They never picked up the phone despite leaving requests by email and voicemail for a call back. It was only ever when I told them I was unhappy that they bothered to respond and only ever by email. Will be registering a complaint about the abysmal service. Can not recommend them at all.

At the start they were very good and getting back to me . Once I was assigned a certain case worker the communication was awful very time you call email they would never get back too took lengthy & a good few voicemails for them to reply. It become increasingly frustrating. We was lucky enough to complete just in time & leading up to the last week the communication improved ,minus a few hiccups on the way.

Not proactive with updates and I struggled to get answers to questions when required. For such an important process, which cost us a lot of money, I do not feel we were given the attention we expected. No sense of urgency at all.
