A bunch of thugs setting there to take your money with lies and fake good prices. My brother insured his car with them and every few weeks they would call to tell him you are doing more mileage what you told us so we are increasing the price, next week they called as your car is an import we are increasing your price or will cancel your policy. There customer service representatives are also clueless and always say sorry we can't do anything about it. Avoid avoid avoid these thugs or you ll regret...

From the details in your review, it sounds as though your brother may have had a telematics policy. These policies require customers to declare an estimated annual mileage when taking out cover, and the premium is calculated based on that information. If the declared mileage is incorrect or the vehicle usage exceeds the amount originally stated, a premium adjustment may be required to ensure the policy reflects the actual level of risk and mileage covered.
We would also like to clarify that we do not insure imported vehicles. Based on the information provided, the comment regarding an imported vehicle does not sound consistent with our underwriting criteria, which is why we would welcome the opportunity to investigate this further.

Need to make it easier to cancel online
My husband took out van insurance with Freedom Brokers last year. He's a busy guy and has little time in the day to make calls, so he made sure Freedom knew that I could have authority to speak on his behalf. He recently received a renewals quote which was a fair bit cheaper than Freedom so decided to cancel the policy. The policy was automatically set to automatically renew and annoyingly, I couldn't cancel online. I called Freedom to cancel but despite having authority to speak on my husband's behalf, they wouldn't cancel the policy without speaking to him first. I think it's ridiculous I can't cancel online or on the phone despite having authority to do so. Luckily I was able to conference my husband into the call but it was massively inconvenient. However, on a positive note, Maya who took the call was very polite and dealt with the cancellation quickly and with little fuss which enabled my husband to exit the call quickly. Thanks for your help, Maya!

We do understand your frustration regarding the cancellation process. While we appreciate that authority had been noted on the policy to allow discussions to take place, there are certain actions, such as cancelling a policy, which may require us to obtain direct confirmation from the policyholder before proceeding. These measures are in place to protect our customers and ensure that significant changes to a policy are authorised correctly.
We appreciate that having to bring your husband into the call was inconvenient, particularly when time is limited, and we're sorry for the frustration this caused.

Had my van insurance just over a year now and just put in a claim on a new windscreen. All went really well with national windscreens, I got an original Ford windscreen no dramas at all. My premium even went down this year too! Thank you to Maya who was helpful on the phone with my renewal.

Tried to cancel the policy after two days of starting it, due to changes in the policy and the price going up. It was cheaper to pay the extra premium than the cancellation fee.. felt a little blackmailed into paying the extra.

We'd like to clarify that any change in premium during the policy term is only made when new information comes to light that differs from the details originally provided when the policy was purchased.
When this happens, the insurer reassesses the risk based on the correct information and calculates the premium that should apply. The additional premium requested is not a penalty, but an adjustment to ensure the policy accurately reflects the risk being insured.
Had all relevant information been disclosed at the outset of the policy, the premium would have been calculated correctly from the start and no mid-term premium adjustment would have been required.
Unfortunately, where information comes to light after a policy has been purchased, insurers are obliged to reassess the risk and amend the premium accordingly to ensure the policy is accurately rated.
We appreciate that receiving a premium increase shortly after taking out a policy can be frustrating. However, the alternative would have been to cancel the policy, which would have been subject to the cancellation terms and charges outlined at the point of purchase.
We understand why this may have felt like a difficult choice, but the options provided were in line with the policy terms and the insurer's underwriting requirements.
We will pass your comments over to our complaints team for a full investigation.
