Thanks to barry & henry for the delivery, very helpful in putting gate where I needed it.the gate was great lovely workmanship by dan. The instructions were easy to follow , the only niggle was the key lock the supplied shafts , one was too short and one too long. Overall very happy with my product and with the company

My new gates, made by Jimmy and Reece, arrived last week and carefully delivered by Barry and Gary, who were very obliging in placing the gates directly into my garage. The gates were installed at the weekend and I couldn't be happier with them. Great quality and a great finish in Rosewood.

I cannot recommend Gates and Fences enough.
I looked for a company for a while to make made to measure gates and the Devon-based custom made company popped up. The prices were very comparable with other sites I'd seen that didn't display near as much pride or quality in their products. The option for treatments and accessories for hanging was also extremely useful.
And all of their guides on their website are such a valuable resource.
I requested a quote for gates for my Dad's property earlier this summer, having no idea there was a sale on.
I very quickly received a reply to my email enquiry that was so clear and helpful and was able to clarify some details in a back and forth conversation with a really helpful lady.
My Dad and I then had to take some time to do the work to fit the gate posts prior to ordering so there was some time before we were ready to confirm and finalise and place the order.
A few weeks after my enquiry while we were in the process of completing the prep work, a member of the team emailed me very politely to let me know the exact date the summer sale that would apply to our quote was ending to ensure I would not miss this date if I still intended to follow up my enquire and make the order. That was so kind as initially I actually had no idea the gates were on sale and we would definitely have missed the sale end if it were not for that contact.
The ordering and payment process was over the phone and once again the staff member involved was the most friendly and helpful they could be. Every detail was double checked for my confirmation and the company kept in touch with details regarding the manufacturing process as it proceeded. The gates were ready sooner than expected, based on the guide on the timeline on the website and I received another kind phone call to arrange delivery. When the gates were delivered the two gentleman were beyond helpful to my elderly Dad.
The gates look perfect and so much care was taken to package and protect the gates and to assist my Dad with them in the house and to ensure they would not be damaged. My Dad said he has never seen something where it was so clear so much care and craftmanship had been taken.
I have had a fair bit of contact with the company to clarify my enquiry (as we made changes to our specification along the way between quote and order) and though they have been absolutely fantastic, they have never once asked for a review. I just felt they are such a brilliant company I had to. Thank you so much Gates and Fences.

Ordered the 7th July, we were informed of a four week lead time. It turned out to be nine weeks. They messed the order up and had to supply two posts at their cost after being threatened with legal action.

When the black gates turned up they looked amazing, until you looked at the reverse of them, they had used aluminium pop rivets instead of black ones to fix the black composite boards to the frame.

The gates look awful, when questioned I was offered touch up paint....Aluminium cannot be touched up, it needs an etching primer and sanding. The only other option was to replace the rivets.

Gates & Fences refused to offer a professional resolve, we have now issued a MCOL claim against the company.

They actually implied it was my fault as I had not asked when ordering what colour the rivets would be, yet it does not state the construction method on their web site.

I am aware of the benefits of a pop rivet over a threaded fixing and do not disagree with the fixing method. Pop rivets come in corrosive resistant black finish, sadly you seem to think atheistically that stainless steel looks better than black!

Stainless fixings on black gates! Comical if it had not cost me 4k.

I will update the thread and social media generally once the MCOL claim has been heard.

Please not I have reached out to you for a return address for the gates and you have not responded, even though you have had a chance to leave a response here. I will therefore now arrange storage for the goods and will be issuing another MCOL claim after the hearing to determine if a judge agrees your gates match the images or information supplied on your website.

UPDATE 14.10.25

After receiving an email form the company late Friday afternoon, I was asked to give them until today to offer a resolve, no response, yet they have found the time to respond to the MCOL claim, a full defence.

Rather interesting since I have had the gates reviewed by a structural engineer who tells me that the fixing method they use should not be used in steel gates. Apparently even corrosive resistant aluminium fixings are not fit for use with steel in any form where exposed to water. Apparently it causes Galvanic Corrosion and is not recommended.

It now looks like we are off to court for the day. Keep you posted, no pun intended!

Update 28.04.2026

Well we have had our day in court. Needless to say we won. The case found that the goods were otherwise than described.

The manufacturing director from the offset was certain of his defence, when it came to the court hearing though he decided to send his customer services manager to the claim.

The whole situation could of been avoided if they were a respectable firm who actually valued their clients.

The case was brought out of principle, not financial gain. If you think you are right then take folk to court. It is what the process is there for.

I just hope Gates & Fences treat others with more professionalism than they did us.

Easy to use website, good instructions on how to size my gates. Hand made to order and delivered in 2 weeks. Good quality and they look stunning. Made by Gareth and Ian they obviously know what they are doing, the craftsmanship is excellent.
Barry & Garry delivered, they rang about 1 to 1.5 hours before delivery with an estimated time, they were bang on. They put the gates where we asked them to nothing was too much trouble.
Price was very reasonable. Would definitely recommend

My gates were delivered last week, sooner than I expected they would be here. The driver and mate Paul & Ben were brilliant and placed them safely exactly where I wanted them, to keep them safe until we could fit them. Great credit to the company.

As for the gates, thanks Dan so well made and look really great.

Ben and Simon delivered our Iroko driveway gates on time and were most helpful in storing them in our detached garage.
