The eSIM didn’t connect on arrival
The eSIM didn’t connect on arrival and no roaming data was available. Without data it wasn’t possible to contact customer support. On day 2 of the visit, data connection was established.

GlobaleSim for East Africa is a good option
I bought GlobaleSim specifically because it was one of the few that would work in Burundi. Unfortunately most of the time it did not. What was notable was that local citizens were using cell data when we could not. Perhaps it is the cell provider that GlobaleSim connected with? It worked better in Rwanda. It worked seamlessly in Uganda, keeping in mind that cell service is always spotty in the mountains.
I had no problems with installation by following the instructions. It is definitely best to install it before you arrive in a country where WiFi is unreliable.
I used a different provider in East Africa last year in Uganda and the coverage was worse.
Knowing the poor cell service and internet in East Africa I think GlobaleSim is a reasonable choice.

Since it didnt work I used the chat only to find out that Burundi no longer is covered.

AVOID - buy elsewhere
They don’t know their own product. Sold me an eSIM for Myanmar which I questioned since no other company eSIM works there. When I asked before I purchased I was told (likely by a bot) that if they were selling an eSIM, it would work there. Predictably, their eSIM does NOT work there and I had to rely on a physical SIM card. Will go back to Airalo, at least they are honest and don’t even offer a package for Myanmar. I recommend avoid buying here and find a company that knows what they are doing.
