Great rental experience
Great rental experience, Johnny was great and helped us with our luggage.
Predatory hidden costs, Hertz are Highway bandits.
I wish I had taken the time to read about how awful this service would be.
I showed up thinking everything was in order, only to be blindsided by hidden charges and an unexpected €4,000 deposit demand — or else I’d have to pay extra daily fees. None of this was clearly communicated in advance. It was buried deep in small print. It felt like a trap.
Worse still, the pre-existing damage on the vehicle was underreported. I was invited to take my own photos (which tells you everything), but the damage had not been documented properly. I felt totally under siege.
My experience was made unbearable by the employee's attitude. Spiteful. Cold. Dismissive. I was spoken to as if I were at fault for not reading the fine print, not as a customer asking for clarification—a wall of policy, petty power and zero empathy.
It reminded me of the worst kind of low-cost airline tactics, except this is high-price Hertz, a brand I once associated with reliability and service. Never again.
Look around. Pick a more deserving company.
AVOID!!!!
AVOID!!!!! I recently rented a car from Hertz at Kerry Airport and had a very disappointing experience. I made it clear at the counter that I did not want any additional charges and was told by Josh, the salesperson handling my booking, that the paperwork I was signing was only a security deposit. In reality, extra insurance products were added without my knowledge, more than doubling the cost of my rental.
When I later questioned the charges, Josh refused to discuss them with me and passed me off to another employee. For a company that claims to pride itself on customer service, this lack of transparency and accountability is shocking.
I returned the car in perfect condition, prepaid my booking in full, and even offered to resolve this matter by phone, but Hertz stood by charges I never agreed to. Based on my experience and the many similar complaints I have since read online, this appears to be an ongoing issue — not a one-off. Insurance scammers.
I have reported Hertz Farranfore to the CCPC. The fact you are doing this not only to locals of the area but tourists of Kerry really doesn't sit well with me so i have logged complaint with the Kerry tourism board also.
Wow wish I read all the terrible…
Wow wish I read all the terrible reviews first. Awful experience at Kerry airport. Guy at desk was lovely while by the way getting me to sign up for over £100 hidden charges costing more than the car rental. When I called him at later date he completely changed his tone. Completely underhand behaviour and customer service of no help whatsoever. Avoid at all costs.
Zero stars review
Zero stars review, it's a shame zero is not an option! Don't anyone rent a car from Hertz, they are thieves. Three months since I rented a car from them and still I have not received the refund which was due back to me. Customer Relations don't even answer my e-mails any more. I really wish I had read some reviews before renting from them, I certainly won't ever rent off them again or recommend anyone else to do it.
Thieves! AVOID!!!
Absolute thieves! Ridiculous charges when returning my car, had it for less than 48hrs and ended up costing me in total over £3k. Just because it had a microscopic chip in the windscreen which was smaller than a cotton bud and Autoglass themselves said they wouldn’t even bother repairing it as wasn’t required. Absolutely disgusting! They said the windsceeen needed replacing but to this day they have failed to prove this has happened and cannot justify the incredible cost passed on to me. My advice, avoid this company like the plague, quite simply, thieves!! Disgusting behaviour from a company. We have reported them to the ombudsman and we are awaiting next steps!
Don't Use Hertz Ever
They asked for a letter stating the credit card company will insure the car not allowing us to rent the prepaid rental unless we paid extra for the insurance that our Visa card covers. The time in the US was 4 am and the offices were closed.
The also upcharged 4.5% for the exchange and putting in their paperwork that they offered home currency or Euros. That never happened. Con artists. Don't use Hertz ever
Beware of hidden charges
Beware of hidden charges – disappointing service
We rented a car from Hertz and initially paid €333, as agreed when booking. When we arrived in person to pay, the staff confirmed that no additional money was needed. However, after using the car, we were charged an unexpected extra €200 due to terms that were never mentioned in person: “Some quotes—especially those from third-party sites—may exclude local taxes, airport surcharges, or government fees, which are added at pickup.”
It’s frustrating that this critical information wasn’t communicated upfront. The service was poor and misleading, and we felt caught off guard by these hidden fees.
If you’re considering renting from Hertz, make sure to ask explicitly about any additional charges—otherwise, you could end up paying much more than expected.
Horrible experience
Horrible experience. Booked online €160 or so I thought. Ended up paying over €400 at desk. Unfortunately got a puncture. Total cost of puncture well over €200 . A small bit over the top. Found bill itemised and to my horror they charged nearly €90 to change the tyre, what a rip off. Nobody could prove that it was not just a leaky valve. Will not darken door step ever. Pure daylight robbers. 🤔👎👎👎👎

Renting in Shannon airport for over 30…
Renting in Shannon airport for over 30 years and now feel robbed of nearly €949 from this company! Their pictures focused more on damage to body of car but not on the tiny wind screen scratch which cannot been seen on their pictures due to reflection and on my picture after they decided I was responsible for that tiny scratch. No course of appeal as it was noticed after I handed back and I have no recollection what so ever of any hit to window (tiny) and wish I could post their and my picture here but can’t. Don’t use them full stop!!
This company is a JOKE !
This company is so irresponsible that they don’t even know what a Revolut credit card is. They don’t know that a Revolut credit card can be either Visa or Mastercard. Because of this, they didn’t accept my credit card and even refused to try it. Due to this last-minute action, I was put in a difficult situation and also lost money because of the cancellation. #revolut #hertz #hertzglobal #hertzintermational #flex
I sent details by e-mail as you requested. still there is not update. I lost 100 euro because of refund policy. which is not my mistake !!!!!!
Awful experience at Dublin airport
Awful experience at Dublin airport. Stefan on the desk didn’t ever give me the option of the lowest level of cover and so what I thought was a €150 hire turned into €550 hire. I have since been dealing with ‘customer service’ to try and sort this and it’s been a nightmare and nobody cares. What’s more, I just spoke with Derek, the head of customer services in Ireland, and frankly it was the most unprofessional and bizarre conversation I’ve ever had. He was passive aggressive throughout and actually quite mean. It has really taken me aback! I will never be using Hertz again. I did manage to speak to one guy called Paul Manning who was a delight, a shame they don’t have more of him in their company!
If I could rate a negative I would
If I could rate a negative I would! They charged us $3500 for a scratch on the mirror!!
Avoid unless you want to be scammed
I've rented cars from different companies at Dublin Airport for years, and Hertz are by far the worst.
Since last May, I’ve been chasing them to return a deposit they are still holding. Despite my bank confirming no refund was ever received, Hertz continue to insist the money was sent back. Their responses are generic, irrelevant and clearly written by AI.
To make matters worse, after I returned the car, they made multiple attempts to take additional money from my account, even setting up a “recurring payment” without authorisation.
I’ve lost count of the emails I’ve sent, all to no avail. I would strongly advise avoiding Hertz at Dublin Airport.
If I was able to give negative Stars
If I was able to give negative Stars, I would. Absolutely dishonest and horrendous experience. They rented me a vehicle in bad shape, only drove it for a little while before it had a major mechanical failure. They charged me ~$2250 for a bad clutch, and said I was the one that caused the issue. I submitted a rebuttal, but they said if the car was in bad shape, I should have said something even though the failure was the first significant sign of the issues. They also triple charged me for the rental period, but eventually corrected the overcharge after I filled a complaint. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I recommend reporting them to the Irish Consumer Protection Authorities (CCPC and ECC Ireland), also, submit a complain to Hertz International, as this company is a Licensee of Hertz.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ CAR RENTAL
DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ CAR RENTAL. Hidden charges are added for Insurance. Even if you have your own excess cover they add a charge for that at Euro 7.00 per day. Hertz at Farranfore (County Kerry Airport) also trick you into believing they are giving you an offer of a free upgrade and then charge you bundles, dont be fooled. Stay away use another car hire company!!!

Hertz van hire
Hertz van hire - Shannon Co Clare/ Coona Limerick
DON'T hire is my advice. If you really have to make sure you take pictures and video's of every angle of the van. If the damage is not marked on the van hire paperwork go back into the office and bring the rental person out to see it and mark it. In our case the Radio controls was broken when we picked up our van. We had a picture of it which was date stamped thankfully. They took money out of our credit card even when we had proof we didn't damage the radio controls. Took almost 2 weeks to get refunded. Hidden cost are unreal. I will never hire a van from this company again. Gangsters
Not even one star would I give
Not even one star would I give! But had to to write this review! You are a big scam ripping people off adding cover and charges to people after they’ve left the country! Then adding a service tax for the services you didn’t ask for! How are you allowed to do business I do not know but I hope you go bust in Spain and wherever else your ripping people off! Disgusting service please people stay well away!!

Excellent service from Hertz
I am delighted to report on my recent excellent experience at Hertz Toulouse (Blagnac) Airport. I stupidly left my sunglasses in the car on my return. As I was unable to report the loss online on the Hertz website, I had the good fortune of contacting Ms. Susy Barrat at the Hertz desk in Toulouse Airport by phone. I am from Ireland and Susy's english was better than my french. She personally took responsibilty and located the sunglasses ( which are over 20years old and of great sentimental value) and carefully wrapped them in a box securely, brought them to the post office in her own time, insured the package and kept in communication with me. I was able to reimburse her for her expenses but I think it is so important to acknowledge when someone like Susy goes over and beyond the call of duty. Hopefully Hertz will recognise the excellent contribution Susy has made to the reputation of Hertz as a provider of excellent customer service. well done Susy and many thanks to you. A very satisfied customer, Kira Treacy
