Unprofessional, illegitimate
My business is mobile and operates within the local community; it does not have a storefront. I am well known and have never had any dealings with HomeStars, yet they posted my personal home address online, which is not associated with my business. Then you're stuck dealing with a bunch of delinquents to get it taken down, which I have already asked them to do.

Home Inspection
We got our home inspection done with Cameron and we were very happy with the way it was done. Warning, who are you working with?
If you are professional, and you are just thinking about starting with them, I would think twice. If you are looking to get job done, yes, the experience might be good, but for professional, they will basically charge you every time you even look at some job without confirming you even want to do the job.
My experience was so bad so far, it's bordering a fraud, or at least false advertising. They just rip off a small professional by sending them unrelated leads, forcing them to charge for it and then claiming, they did everything by their policies.
How it works?
As a pro, you may bid on a job. The bid alone won't be charged until the customer sends you their detail. However, the customer can send you some random phone number, which they never even answer, therefore trigger your charge and then ghost you completely with no guarantee you even get to talk about the job.
That is pretty much a scam under the mask of fair deal.
Scam
I recently accepted a lead through HomeStars and was charged $47 immediately. After accepting, I noticed the phone number was from Venezuela, which raised concerns right away. I attempted to contact the client multiple times but received no response.
What’s even more frustrating is that multiple contractors were charged for the same lead, and from what I can tell, none of us were able to reach the client or secure the job.
This raises serious concerns about lead quality and verification. Contractors are paying upfront for leads that may be invalid, unreachable, or potentially fake. There should be a system in place to properly screen leads or protect service providers from being charged in situations like this.
I have requested a credit for this lead and hope HomeStars addresses this issue. As a business owner, I expect a fair system where we are not taking on all the risk for unverified leads.
Very poor service!
I called at 8:30 am this morning, April 10, 2026. There was an unfortunate accident that left the vinyl garage door locked three quarters open. I was assured someone would come out today, and the service dept would call with a time for the call. I waited all day. They new there is direct access from the garage to the house, so it was urgent. I'm a 20+ year cx, they installed these doors, but no call....no response, nothing. Called again at 5:05 and was assured by the answering service, that they're going to contact the on call guy....6:41 pm I call again, answering service again states the same thing....I am sorely disappointed, and very angry because now I'll have to pay after hours fees with someone else or I'll have to wait until Monday. This is unacceptable! I no longer recommend this company. Very poor service experience after being a loyal customer for more than 20 years....I do NOT recommend!!!!
