I had already bought a pair of these for the Tour of Pendle as they have great cushioning for a long run and a very grippy sole for the muddy fells and a rock plate as our fells have lots of rocks

Well made and really wanted to like these, but extremely poor sizing. The mid section was so tight, it was impossible to wear. Like the middle of the shoe was four sizes too small - it was painful to put on. A shame. Had to return.

Well built shoe. Great traction. A bit too squishy, especially in the heel. It rolls a bit too easily when side hilling in technical terrain. Needed better laces and it could use a bit more padding in the tongue.

I found these shoes to be a much tighter fitting shoe than the Trail Fly and Mud Talon speeds wide fir. They also have an annoying seam that rubs the side of my foot. Will not be buying them again.

Outstanding shoe. Have relied on them for years in wet cross country and sand.

Great all round shoe for fell trail running & walking after 40 years of venturing out onto the lakeland trails I find the MudTalon wider fit the most comfortable. Best - Steve Watts MBE

Poorly made

It is a great cushy shoe. I scored it a 4 because I think they should have extended the surface area of the rock plate in the middle for climbing rope. I hope it holds up the Spartan Ultra in a couple of week.

They look nice the soul is comfortable however the precision fit must only fit a select few as the footprint inside was offset so I had too much room to the inside of my big toe on both feet . Never had this before in any shoe or trainer . Unfortunately had to return them and pay the return fee for such an unusual issue . I’ve tried mudclaws before and had no issue but they aren’t available anymore

The perfect winter fell shoes for people with wide feet. Impressive stuff. Very happy with the fit. The wide toe box combined with a snug fit at the heel and midfoot makes the shoe feel roomy without being too loose. It translates well when running in them. You get the comfy feeling upfront as your foot is allowed to naturally splay, without your foot sliding about. The cushioning is also impressive, especially considering the lightness of the shoe. Tbf, I'm not sure for how long they would be comfortable on tarmac/hard packed stuff, but for getting to the soft stuff they are spot on. Speaking of the soft stuff, I really have put them through their paces. Running over very soft fields and through LOADS of deep mud. The grip is honestly exceptional. I've never felt such confidence running through ground half as slippery. I would definitely recommend!

I think Inov8's new direction is BRILLIANT. I've run 74km over 4 runs in wet and muddy Cornwall in these, and they have been amazing. Thank you Inov8 for making a foot-shaped shoe in a proper wide fit... it actually fits my foot and my toes can spread right out!! Thank you for padding out the tongue and giving me enough shoe lace to do a proper runner's lock. They are super comfortable and the grip is truly excellent - I don't even have to think about the mud, I can just run through it, and I love the boomerang footbed with its fantastic energy return. The only thing I'd wish for is even more heel lock - I think this could be tighter, more glove-like around my ankle, to combat suction on the boggy bits. Otherwise, some outstanding work and progress from the Inov8 team!

The grip on these shoes is great, really confidence inspiring on muddy descents. They've been comfortable since the first run and aren't uncomfortable when running on hard ground on the way to the mud.

If this is the culmination of 20 yrs then that’s a bit average…. In my opinion. Grip is exceptional. Fit is good. Quality appears good but I found the rubber on the upper a bit stiff to begin with and it dug into my left foot when it creased in mid stride. Thick socks solved the problem and after 3 runs I stopped noticing it. Support in the heel is average to poor compared to trailfly ultra g280, but not a show stopper. On the whole I’m enjoying running in them and I seriously appreciate the extra grip and confidence they give me in the mud. If the heel cup offered a bit more support they’d be awesome.

All day cushioning, fantastic grip and perfect heel lock and wide toebox. Took them out for 14 miles of mud and hills and they were brilliant. Only lost a star because I find the upper material too stiff. Had the same on an x claw ultra (I think) and the natural bend and creases are too harsh due to the rip stop material and presses onto my little toes which unfortunately means I can’t wear them for much more than a couple of hours. If the upper material had been the same as the new Trailfly then would have been 5 stars. Found them true to size (unlike the new Trailfly which in comparison I found came up a bit short in length and will have to go up 1/2 size). ***update after 35 miles - the upper is much softer now and very comfortable BUT it has also started to peel away and more peeling after each run. Not sure how much longer they are going to last.

The best trainers for muddy, slippy conditions. I can run lines in these that would have me slipping over in my G275's. The grip is amazing. The cushioning feels quite firm on hard surfaces but they come alive on fast descents, it's bonkers how well they grip. They drain well, not holding on to too much water and the materials clean up easily after boggy runs. I've got the wide fit and there's plenty of room in the toebox. Hopefully they'll release a standard fit as the precision fit is would be too narrow for my feet over long distances Had an issue with the first pair which has been resolved quickly by Inov-8's excellent customer service team.
I've had about 5 pairs of Mudclaws in the past and 10 pairs of Roclites over many years of fell and trail running. I've also tried many other brands for both terrains too, as well as road shoes. I've always wanted a shoe that does both things and this is finally it. Amazing shoes! Super grippy on wet mud with its mud claw studs, as good as it gets on wet rock with the sticky rubber sole and nicely cushioned to avoid getting knackered and sore on hard-packed trail and road sections as I did with Mudlaws. The cushioning may be a bit much for some purists. I considered getting the 'speed' version but i'm getting old and deserve some luxury. I do a lot of runs on mixed terrain so these are perfect. Not too heavy, even when soaking wet after running through rivers and, like most inov8s, my feet don't slide around inside a wet shoe either. Not rolled my ankle off-trail with the extra height either, although I haven't tested them on steep fell traverses yet. I don't have wide feet so Inov8s have always fitted me well, as do these 'precision fit' versions (which should be called 'standard for inov8.') I absolutely love them!
Comfy shoe with great grip but awful quality. Overlays separated from upper after 1 run. I could live with that but these shoes have zero drainage. Never known a pair of shoes to hold water like these. Utterly pointless. I don’t know who tested these but they obviously didn’t do it in a British winter. Very disappointing. Hopefully version 2 will be better

Love these trainers. My first innov-8 trainers and looking forward to getting them wet and muddy. Very comfy for such aggressive trail shoes
A great running shoe that is well made which gives amazing grip and feel
