Nice environment and plenty of space for free hand exercises.

The gym has a good variety of number of each type of equipment, although the bench press seats do not go flat and the free weights does not have any wipes, which is not great for hygiene concious people

Jd gyms has got to be my favourite place. It’s quite cheap from other gyms and it also has everything you would need to get to your goals!

I’m a returning member, and in the 6 months I’ve been away it was encouraging to see a team member walking the floor. However, after having 2 knees replaced and foot surgery, in the last 14 months, I was horrified when half way through a spin class, a client held up her peddle that had fallen off! This would have been disastrous to my rehabilitation!

It’s my home town of old moved there in 1963
Went to school there played rugby there got married there.
So a natural choice.
Now I’m doing a law degree and going to JD is exactly what I need
It’s so well equipped and members well behaved.
Staff are off the planet good

Can normally get a good workout in there plus just discovered the car park is free for members

Vibe from other members is generally pretty good. Equipment is alright, but the layout isn't great and there isn't nearly enough room for stretching & floor work. I really tried to like this gym but it's downhill from there, unfortunately.
You have to scan a QR code to enter or exit, meaning several times I've had to end my workout early to be able to leave before my phone runs out of battery, and several times I've encountered people trapped inside after staff have left for the day. Membership pin numbers, or cards with barcodes, would easily prevent this issue, just like almost every other gym uses.
The policy of allowing only one entry per 12 hours, and if you forget something it sucks to be you, is frankly ridiculous. As is closing the changing rooms outside of staffed hours, leaving only one shower/toilet for the entire gym to share all night. It would make much more sense to have people scan their membership code for entry to the changing rooms during unstaffed hours, as other 24hr gyms do, and if you really insist on restricting the number of entries for each person surely a maximum of 6 hours would suffice.
Hygiene & maintenance standards are so bad that mushrooms grow out of the shower walls, the floor is spongy in the changing rooms, and staff claim cleaning has been completed when it hasn't. There is no way of cleaning equipment before/after using, when I asked about it I was told "we'll have some cleaning stations soon" which has apparently been the response since the branch opened, yet no cleaning supplies have ever been offered.
The accessible shower/toilet is unclean and unsafe. None of the handrails fold down to their useable positions, and the emergency cord is often tied up out of reach. Many times I witnessed staff sign the form on the wall declaring they'd cleaned it after barely glancing inside, not bothering with any cleaning practices at all. There is one hook to keep belongings off the floor, but it's right next to the shower, meaning you can choose between your things getting wet hung up or your things getting wet on the floor - if you place belongings on the far side of the room right by the door, and you're very careful with using the shower, you can usually keep them dry, but there's more than enough space for a small bench. A bench would also make getting dry & changed orders of magnitude easier for people with balance and mobility issues.
Entry to the accessible bathroom is restricted (until staff leave, when it becomes the only bathroom available in the entire gym), meaning members have to ask staff permission to use it. Not only is this policy infantilising and humiliating, but there is often no staff member to be found, and some staff feel entitled to comment on whether you seem disabled enough to use accessible facilities in their opinion.
Eventually I emailed a formal complaint about these issues (primarily the ableist experiences and consistent lack of hygiene or maintenance), but JD Gyms never bothered to respond, much less address anything. So I cancelled my membership and went elsewhere.
Overall it's very badly maintained with exclusionary and ableist policies and staff behaviours, and they couldn't care less about their customers' experience.
It's also expensive for what it is, for £2 extra per month you can get multi-branch access for a different 24hr gym just around the corner.

Came to the gym this morning and the iPad wasn't working so couldn't register my so had to pay for parking today. No member of staff was available to help as none were working at that time. Has the issue been resolved?
