The gym is not fitted with air conditioning so it’s unbearable to train here during the summer months, there is no atmosphere, staff walk around looking miserable. The female toilets are always filthy running out of handwash regularly.

I do love coming to JD Clough Road
I do love coming to JD Clough Road. I have had the benefit of being able to go during the less busy hours recently, which always makes a smooth visit. Plenty of include treadmills, rowing machines, but the leg press seems to always be out of order which is why I gave 4 stars
Love the ladies area as wel.

Please improve access/egress for pedestrians and ensure car park has safety lighting
This gym has lots of students, young people and females who travel via foot and the pedestrian access/egress from the site is almost non-existent and has been this way for years. Walking into/out of the gym feels dangerous as there is no footpath to enter the car park, pedestrians must either walk under the square metal frame that cars enter by or stumble down a rocky step (only possible if there is no car parking there). Cars often drive VERY fast -entering/leaving the gym too. On the approaching side road the bushes often obscure the path/road (so can’t see cars coming to the junction when you’re trying to cross the road to the island to walk toward the gym car park) and the island in the middle of the road has a dodgy bit of metal sticking out where the arrow beacon was crashed into. On leaving at night the car park and side road is PITCH BLACK, I cannot see my hand in front of me. It is really, really dark. All the car park flood lights have been off and as a pedestrian and female at night this is quite scary (in terms of road and stranger danger safety). I only feel ok when I get onto Clough Road which has street lights. I feel that the gym is just focused on what’s inside and assumes everyone arrives by car or is a bloke (but even men are at risk). Please make approaching and leaving the gym more pedestrian and lone female friendly, especially on a night. Even if JD doesn’t own the side road it could consider asking the authorities for the bushes to be trimmed and a zebra courtesy crossing to be put in. The gym could put a small path for pedestrians on its site and better lighting, this wouldn’t cost much but would improve safety, especially on a night. I beg you to do a risk assessment on pedestrians entering/leaving the site and entering/leaving at night when it’s dark.
EDIT: I’m not sure why JD Gyms have asked for more personal information to recognise the review. It’s not necessary given that this is feedback for *outside* the gym which everyone who goes on foot or at night will have similar experience of. I’ve been a member for years and don’t appreciate JD Gyms staff requesting my identity details to give feedback about the walk into and out of the car park (especially as I’ve stated I’m a female who walks home late at night alone!), which even prospective members would encounter.
Gym heat, lack of leg machines, very very smelly toilets.
Gym is like an oven even when it's not a hot day. Everyone is always sweating profusely. It makes it a little more difficult to get a good workout in.
Needs more leg extensions/curls. It's annoying having to wait 45 minutes for each leg machine.
Toilets smell vile every time I've been.
The hassle of going twice per day but only being able to use the barcode once is a little annoying.
Aside from that, it's all good. Community is good, good machine options (aside from the legs).

A return to my local gym.
It is a pleasure to return to JD gym Hull after a year abroad. A no-nonsense operation, helpful staff and mature folk getting on with their fitness programmes. I've visited around 30 different gyms around the world, the experiences were pretty much all very positive but there is no place like home.

Most of the equipment isn't working properly the shoulder press needs oil or something on the cables as its real juddery lifting and lowering the fly machine the chair is broken and one arm is lower then the other the benches are too short the ab crunch machine is squeaky the weights are alover the place no order to them and just generally not enough equipment no punch bags at all and no staff would've been nice to have a look around or maybe a 1 day trial before having to join but there was no staff there to speak to about it and couldn't get through the door without joining first overall wasn't too impressed
