Excellent gym, equipped with everything you need. Catering for new starters or for someone myself who has trained for 14 years. Been to this gym on and off now for the last 6 years.
Staff are friendly, gym is very tidy and easily accessible at any time you wish to train.

You're just left to do your own thing. The staff don't bother you, they are there to help you if you need it. Friendly, always cleaning the equipment down. Just a nice gym

I have been training in gyms since 1987. Between 2016-2019 was a PT and in 2017 I was a finalist in the National Fitness Awards for PT of the year. I have been involved in customer service and sales and marketing all of my life. I was a member of JD Sunderland in 2021-2022 and I left to go to One Gym Ryhope (simply for a change). I left One Gym last month as I was becoming more and more agitated with the mess in the gym and the constant Instagram Story posting of lasses with their arses out in mirrors. When I came back to JD Sunderland I was happy to see you had added some new equipment and moved some things around. I also like it's location as it's a nice 20 minute walk to the gym and back home so it's an easy 40 minutes cardio. What I was not happy about was the same messy gym and lack of staff on hand to administer rules and be a visual identifier for the brand and gym itself. It's just expected I guess that a member can load up a machine, do a few sets and then just walk away and leave the mess for someone else to tidy up. Why is this not being policed more? As was the same with One Gym, where is your use of social media to remind people of gym rules? Where is the staff to challenge people? Then let's add in the fact that it's 'ok' now for members to train in socks. Is this a good health and safety message? And what about the toilets?...And don't play dumb. Just Google JD Gym Sunderland reviews and you'll see a ton of people complaining about the smell. I don't rate your gym or brand. For me it's purely functional. I need a gym and you're close enough.

The changing rooms stink bad every time i have been in .
The saunas too cold
All good apart from that .

Absolute circus, kids misusing equipment, grown men sitting about on machines FaceTiming their mates. Staff watching people kick the boxing bags. Equipment packed together as closely as possible. No the wonder it’s so cheap. Not to mention the place stinks.

Very good work out options. Didn't feel unwelcome or unable to ask for help.

The gym itself is good but the changing rooms smell of raw human poo. Like really bad.

I usually use the JDs gyms in Leeds, and I wish I could all the time as they're spot on. However, I often have to use the Sunderland location, and it's so behind. The weights are all over the gym, dumbbells are never in the correct place and never paired, nobody ever puts their plates back and there is a lack of trainers (like I've seen at other locations) putting weights back or informing gym goers to tidy up after themselves. If you're big enough to lift the weights, you're big enough to put them back.
I've seen multiple times, someone leaves four 20kg plates on a bar, just for some smaller and first time gym goers to struggle to return the weights. I also rarely see the staff around the gym at all.
I know much of this is down to the people using the gym, but staff could at least attempt to implement some structure to the gym.

Good gym but I don’t like how you can come in once a day and if you want to do another session the same day you have to wait around for a staff member to let you in. Also the disabled toilet is locked all the time and having only 2 toilets is rough when the gym is busy
I love the gym because the staff are lovely and the people who go there are friendly and I settled it really well because of how nice the staff and the over people are
Excellent equipment, clean changing areas, sauna and 24 hours access, only downfall is jumped up steroid freaks, but was put in his place so all good 👍 💪
The gym is 10/10. Great atmosphere, different compared to all other gyms. Great mix of people in there and all at the gym for the right reasons. Staff are lovely the equipment is modern . So pleased I moved to jd gym
