Had a lovely morning browsing around…

Had a lovely morning browsing around with a guide. Everyone was nice, Frey M was very patient with my questions and even when I told him I wouldn’t be bidding on anything he was kind and offered to assist me again whenever I came back…which I will do soon! May as well get there as early as it seemed busier by the time I left!

Special mention to Patrick who was super nice and helped me carry the mirror I got into a cab and all the way to my flat (second floor)!! If i could give 10 stars I would :)

Great experience all round!

I had a fabulous time at lots Road! Being fairly new to the Auction process, the staff were extremely helpful and genuine in talking me through the whole procedure and advising me. Notably the upstairs porters Patrick and PJ were very polite. Looking forward to returning soon for the next Auction!

Arguably the most concerning auction…

Arguably the most concerning auction experience ever. Purchased a number of Chanel pieces that were sold as authentic for a significant amount of money, however after collecting the items and processing them through an external authenticator, the items came back as counterfeit. Informed a member of their staff who was extremely apologetic and advised me that this was not the first occasion this had happened. Upon putting me through to a manager named Tom, he advised me that the member of staff I had spoken to 'didn't know what she was talking about' and 'hadn't been here long'. I was then advised that the items were 'prototypes' for Chanel and that Chanel had never seen them. A strenuous exercise to get a refund, definitely wouldn't purchase from Lot's Road again, very concerning.

We are deeply sorry you feel so aggrieved by our service to you.

We would like to address your issues that you’ve highlighted here.

The company you used to establish authentication, did not authenticate nor appraise but gave an “opinion”, an opinion which is still in question.

When you initially called us with your concerns we took them seriously and knowing you were very troubled by your purchase, without query or obligation we offered a refund on return of the goods, and furthermore offered to collect from yourself. We did not at anytime refuse a refund to you, only made it dependant on return of the items to us, which would be a regular condition for any refund.

Furthermore I understand that your manner with our staff was unwarranted and could have created greater issue.

For any upset to you we apologise…

Sham auction

Sham auction. Compare recent auctions and upcoming auctions on their website and you’ll see half of the items are relisted. That includes items with a hammer price, things that you bid on but don’t win, meaning that the house and associated businesses are bidding up their own items to protect sale price. It’s not an auction, it’s basically a shop, one where you’ll only pay over the estimate plus fees. Totally corrupt. How trading standards don’t investigate these guys doing this in plain sight I know not. Might give them a nudge myself. Besides, most lots are just naff, tatty and tasteless reproductions and house clearance junk. I saw an earlier comment with someone saying ‘stick to bonhams’. Honestly, that is the most bizarre and ridiculously flattering comparison. Lots road is more butlins than bonhams. Spiv heaven. I think we all know who wrote all of the favourable initial reviews. I bet there’ll be a sudden glut of 5 star reviews shortly. The most disappointing thing is this place could be great, it’s in a wonderful Chelsea/Fulham location but rather than making a go of it, they resort to this kind of petty scam, it’s a shame because what could be a thriving business will be sold off and made into flats. It’s a cartel. Avoid.

Dangerous Business

The receptionists are so incredibly rude and have nothing but contempt for the customers. But today it has dropped to an all time low. I have been buying from them for years, and yes the front desk people can be arrogant but today was extra special. After dealing with one person who was so rude and dismissive to me when I was asking about options to do a telephone bid, I decided to come back later to bid on an item in person which I won.

I went back to reception to pay and the cashier was also so rude and unprofessional when I was trying to discuss payment options. I asked him if he was ok? He asked me why!!?? And I told him that everyone on reception seemed in a bad mood and wondered if something had happened. He then asked me, “are you saying that because we are all black?” Whaaaaaaaaattttt???? Whaaaaaat????!! I was so gobsmacked I was speechless! He accused me of being racist because I asked him why everyone was in such a bad mood.

I told him that what he had just said to me was so offensive and so out of line and he had no right to say such indefensible things to me and I immediately asked to speak to the Manager. Needless to say that never happened. He then went on and on arguing with me, trying desperately to make this situation about race and me into a racist… I can not believe a company would have this kind of person on a front desk.

I left him and went to search for anyone to help me, finally I was able to get one employee to go to the desk with me so I would not have to speak to this horrible person on my own. He was behind the desk sniggering at me and then starting saying my full name and address out-loud repeatedly, trying to intimidate me that he knew my name and home address. No one who worked there stood up for me.

This kind of behaviour is intimidating and frankly I should have called the police… racism is taken very seriously in the U.K. and to be so wrongfully and casually accused of it is dangerous business.

I am sure nothing will come if this. He’ll continue to work there but I will never know because I will never, ever set foot in that place again… be warned.

Cheeky fakes are very, very common and it’s not accidental

Quite a lot of the stuff sold as ‘unique items’ Are actually modern retail goods being drip-fed Through the auctions at seriously inflated prices.
See for yourself. Check out the previous auctions and look for items like “pair of Polychrome lobsters”/set of 12 Regency mirrors/faux pedestal/large gold cherries” and you will see the same popping up again and again and again.
These are not unsold repeats… I should know, I bought them all and yet two or three weeks later there they are again!!
Don’t get me wrong, I like the things I bought But they are not antique, an ‘interesting find’ or similar They are ‘everyday retail objects’ available at places like John Lewis for a fraction of the cost.
Sometimes I didn’t get the chance to check the items out in person and 2 large regency style mirrors turned out to be cheap (but fairly convincing) plastic knock-offs……. This is entirely deliberate and the descriptions are wantonly vague about
you have been warned!! (And so have I but I will be back there next Sunday…..to try and find something unique amongst the fakes…..if in doubt, stick to buying the furniture…..at least that is probably real.
