Evaluating 80 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the food, noting issues like dry, overcooked, or inedible items, and even finding foreign objects in their meals. The service was also a frequent point of contention, with people reporting long wait times, staff being overwhelmed, or even rude and aggressive interactions. Additionally, many found the prices to be too high for the quality and portion sizes received, especially for drinks and certain menu items. However, some customers also noted positive experiences with the staff, describing them as friendly, helpful, and efficient. The Ship inn, Tresaith - Needs to improve a LOT!

The Ship inn, Tresaith, Cardigan, SA43 2JL Dates 27th – 29th Feb 2024. We rarely provide any reviews or feedback, but after our stay we felt it necessary to let you know that we were not happy with our stay of 2 Nights.
On arrival there was limited parking and one night we had to park on the road that had signs saying NO parking. The staff said that was fine as it was out of season! Not sure they would pay any parking fine I might of received though!
The first night we went down to dinner early at 16.45 to take advantage of the special offer. If ordered before 5pm the Lunch & Early evening set menu was 2 courses for £14.50, however the waiter advised this was not on offer OUT OF SEASON! So why is it still on the Menu Marstons???
THE ROOM – the shower leaked and needed a towel to be used on the floor by the hand basin. We reported this and was told we would have extra towels for the wet floor, but none arrived. Also, the en-suite room & ceiling looked dirty with mildew on the ceiling and dirt around the base of the shower screen (we have photos if needed). BREAKFAST –Sarah was brilliant at breakfast and as soon as she knew we wanted oat milk she provided some herself the next day for us. However, she apologised as we asked for fruit for breakfast and we were told ‘this is no longer available’ despite it being shown on the menu! Again Marstons???
Sarah could not have been more helpful and is an asset to Ship Inn. We had more issues with our evening meal on the 2nd night.
We booked a table for 4 as we were meeting family who live locally for a meal at the Ship. We ordered the Sea Bass x 3 times and a cod and chips. 10 minutes later the waiter appeared to say there was only x 2 Sea Bass, so one of us opted to have the cod and chips. Another 10 minutes later the waiter came to tell us that there was in fact 'only x 1 cod available this evening'. Quite why this took a further 10 mins for the kitchen to tell the waiting Staff??? So, at this point we ordered a Steak. Training need Marstons? Should not all waiting Staff be informed by the kitchen what is and isn't available at the start of a sitting knowing how stocks vary due to sales???
The food that came out was average as opposed to some other reviews here. I don't expect 'Fine dine cuisine' at a Pub, but a reasonable standard should be maintained in and out of the main seasons.
The final straw was we ordered some more drinks at about 9.40pm only to be told that 'Last Orders' had been called! I don't know about called, as more whispered! We at this point were the only people in the bar so its not as if we didn't hear over a busy crowd. It was very evident that the Staff wanted to lock up and have an early night. I asked if the drinks could be charged to my room and I would settle in the morning at checkout. The lad advised that the tills had been cashed up and the 'pump taps' all removed so no more drink could be served. Again Marstons, a training need. I'm sure you would like customers to spend in your premises, not have a premise which is managed by a 'SALES PREVENTION OFFICE'!
I have contacted Marstons directly via their website. Suffice to say almost x 3 weeks later - NO reply from them!
Due to poor Stock control DON'T EXPECT to necessarily get the food you fancy from the menu (Breakfast or Dinner) or A DRINK after 9.30pm, Resident or not!

The Grazing Cow Lawley - Such a shame!!!!

Loved this pub for 8 years and was completely loyal as was my husband and all our friends. Up to 15 of us at a time every weekend. Spending an absolute fortune. We all know the prices are sky high but that didn't matter though because we loved the place. 3 days after the landlord leaves for pastures new, the place goes to complete shambles. Completely hits rock bottom. The one member of staff is so god damn rude, making other members of staff cry and ignoring customers. We have all been barred from this pub all because she doesn't like us and the one night we took a picture of ourselves in another pub and posted it on their FB page. This post was not harmful, hateful, discriminatory, defamatory or obscene. It was harmless fun, stating we weren't missing the place after being in there pretty much every weekend for the past 8 years!!! Everyone in the picture is barred!! Completely shocking and I believe Marston's hierarchy needs to go and sort the place out. There are some lovely girls who work in there and they should be rewarded because they are terrific. It's a shame this has happened to a great pub. Bring back the old managers!!!! They were magic!!!

Started well with main courses but no sweets!

Started well with main courses ordered and advised of 40 min delay which was fine. Food arrived after 24 mins and was good. Then went to order sweets and advised they were no longer taking food orders - not even for sweets or fo people half way though a pre-booked meal. Blaimed on a sudden staff illness and need to shut the kitchen- although that was untru as other food kept coming out. Basically short staffed despite most of the tables in pub having been prebooked. We left dissatisfied and went elsewhere for our puddings……safe yourself time and go somewhere else for your whole meal!

WALK PAST GET BEATEN UP. Lovely customer service.

Walking past the Railway Inn in Swadlincote this evening and got assaulted by customers of the pub. We had previously just left another Martons pub the Foresters who have 2 security guards to ensure customer safety. Whilst walking past the Railway Inn we were assaulted by customers who found it funny to beat up passing pedestrians. When we tried to request help from the landlady we were told to get the F out. Charming public relations. This place has become a dive that has evidently become a private club for riff raff to frequent.

Don’t bother

I worked for Marstons last year and was treated so poorly. I was shocked at the state of the kitchen and the amount of microwaves in there. 8 in total, everything is defrosted and cooked in microwave. Team were lovely, the company were awful. You’re a number and they want the money. It’s a shame as the pubs they own near me are ideal for a family meal. But definitely not ideal for anyone and would never recommend

Misadvertising and a trading standards issue??

They advertise children can eat for a £1 with full paying adults. We went for a family birthday and were told despite it being half term when the offer was available and on the website and on a billboard outside of their pub the White Post in Nottinghamshire that they wouldn’t honour it. Entrapment and very dodgy

Recently visited The Star at Sidcup Place and was presently surprised. Tucked at the side of The Green it has a lovely warm feeling and the food was lovely - the menu was substantial as well as the portions. So good in fact went back and sampled the Sunday Roast!! HANDSOM although very busy the service and staff was quick and extremely friendly. When entering asked if any of our group had any food allergies.

Horrendous towards staff

Horrendous is a slight way to describe the treatment I and other colleagues endured at the THREE LIGHTS in Fleetwood.

For starters, I did not get paid. Nic would ask me consistently to go to the shop for kitchen supplies before work- which would take an extra 10-15 minutes before work. Overtime this adds up and she did not pay me for this time!! I have text proof of being asked to go to Asda.

Ontop of this, I was offered supervisor role and within the first 10 days Nic left me on my own to close the entire pub by myself! I was still front of house staff, getting paid £3 less an hour than the supervisor wage, and I didn’t have any keys/ codes to close the tills or lock the doors. Other managers and head chef from the Bellflower pub were there to witness Nic going for a NAP! Upstairs whilst I sat by myself for hours.

The supervisor course was booked on my day off- despite it being a 12/13 hour day getting to & from Wolverhampton. And I was also not told that being a Supervisor would tie me to Marstons for a year. I was going to University which Nic knew about, but she doesn’t care enough about her staff to bother telling me this information.

Nic expected me to do supervisory duties, such as close down tills and take on an authoritarian role during busy Sundays such as deal with complaints, refunds and allocate breaks for staff members. I did all of this on £7.77 an hour, which is not a supervisor wage!

Onto Nic’s treatment of other staff members. A young girl had found out devastating news about her Grandma mid-shift and was understandably upset. Nic marched over to me and said ‘Where is Smiley?’ (A derogatory nickname because my colleague was upset,) and when I explained what had happened Nic said ‘That doesn’t matter she is at work.’
Marstons, please enlighten me how working is more importance than a sudden grievance? Why would anyone want to work for someone who goes around saying such horrible things about their staff!

Furthermore, the state that Nic allows the kitchen to get into is diabolical. A dirty tissue was being cooked in a pan with other food, and was left there for at least a week! Plates under the pass are mouldy and full of food- One plate full of tomato sauce was there for a month before I left. Even after other pub managers have demoted their time to help Nic, she lets the kitchen get disgusting all over again because she has a serious lack of respect.
When food-running I saw that chopping boards and allergy requirements were not up to standard. Surfaces were not wiped down, cooked meat is being cut on red, raw meat, boards.

The rat problem in the back yard is disgusting, and they keep the kitchen doors open (which open up to the back yard,) as well as trapping rats under KITCHEN TRAYS! Leaving them there for days.

And within the entire 8 months of working there I requested 3 days off- Nic didn’t even inform me to say she denied it, instead told other members of staff.

The Three Lights is possibly the worst showcase of management in Lancashire. 10 front of house members and 7 chefs have left within the course of 7/8 months.

Do not ever work for this pub.
I must mention the managers & head chef at the Bellflower are much more respectable and friendly, they do not deserve to be tarnished with the same brush.

Bell and Bottle. Newton with Scales. Despite a shortage of staff (which is all too common nowadays) the team 23/9/23 were really top class and dealt with our group in a timely and friendly manner so I am compelled to write this!

New Finney Gardens - Stoke…

Visited new finney gardens for years now and it’s been very up and down, recently taken over and whilst it appears better, being redecorated which is well overdue, then the landlord comes out and smokes his electric gag whilst effing to customers he knows, time to find another pub

Marstons are unscrupulous

Marston sold the Crooked House Pub to buyers that they were in dispute with over road access. They sold it for alternative use. The demise of the building was predictable. On Marston's website you can see all the pubs they own. I will be checking carefully which ones are near me and will avoid all of them.

Disgraceful behaviour

I agree with everything that has been said about Marston's conduct regarding The Crooked House. Altough they were not directly responsible for the distruction of the pub, they sold it without any thought as to what would happen to it.
As a contributor of photos and updates for hospitality listings websites, I will not be extending any of these services, to any of Marston's pubs. Nor will I ever visit any of their establishments again. What they have done is a terrible thing, and will not be forgotten.

The Lost Coins in Haverfordwest

We recently visited The Lost Coins in Haverfordwest and again received a lovely welcome . The comfortable, spacious interior is like no other locally . We were able to choose from a varied menu and were seated at our table of choice , despite walking in without a booking. Particular thanks again to Beth who always manages to make us feel special ( however, we see her kindness with all other customers also}. Our little one was able to play in the climbing area . It was again a thoroughly enjoyable visit. Well done and thank you .
