Reported to Consumer Affairs

I need a 6m of gutter replaced and 3 down pipes installed. The company charged me $143 to quote on the job. They came, looked at the job and quoted me $8,500. I’ve since checked the price of materials and time to install. There is about $400 of materials and 1 days work, for $8,500!!! I think this is a rip-off company that makes its money from charging call out fees and not doing work. I will be contacting Consumer Affairs to lodge a complaint.

Absoultely low life company!

Definitely don't use Metropolitan and save yourself $$$.

Their price for changing 1 switch is $1150 where you can get the same done by professional Electricians for $200.

I hope government can take some action on this. No buisness should be allowed to charge a ridiculus amount.

Absoultely low life company.

Do not use this company

Metropolitan/ Mr Emergency or whatever you call yourselves. Do not use this company, they rip you off.
I had a new ducted gas unit installed a couple of years ago and they said it needs service every 2 years.
Called them for a service price, they can’t give price over phone but they can come out and give a quote. Quoted me $1249 for service, 1 was pretty shocked but the man did say that they have to strip it all down which can take a few hours. So i booked the service.
The man was here for 45 mins.
I emailed the company twice for a breakdown of what tech actually did for that amount of money - no response. Total rip off.
Also quoted me $4k to install 3 zones. Erm I dont think so.
Will definitely not be using them again.
Ps my neighbour got ripped off as well, $2k to replace 2 smoke detectors.

DONT EVER HIRE THEM

Hugely overpriced
Left all their rubbish, but charged for disposal
Call out fee $141.90
Auditing compliance fee $59
Standard copper repair if already located - $1190 for 50cm pipe
Replace tap in bathroom - $1190.0
Didn't turn our water back on properly, so we had to call them out again

STAY away

STAY AWAY!!!!They charged $141 to come out to look at a hot water system said it needed replacement and quoted over $12,000 to replace the unit. Offered interest free finance if i agreed on the spot to their absurd quote. Made zero attempt to fix the unit. A local Plumber came the next day, with 15 minutes of tinkering I had hot water an hour after he left for a $90 service fee. When I asked for a refund from Metropolitan for the $141 I was told they do a "visual inspection" only for that fee, and their plumbing services are "not to diagnose" or fix an issue. Comparison quotes indicate they're overcharging for the new hot water system by $8000!!!!!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
IT'S AN ABSOLUTE WROUGHT AND THE BOOKING TEAM IS VERY MISLEADING...

They charged $142 to attend - not a problem - fair and reasonable. Side note- it took the booking department ( who were lovely on the phone) 25 minutes to complete the booking process for my urgent job.

The guy who attended took a photo of the outdoor unit, without speaking to anyone and gaining permission to enter the premises, (BRAND NEW UNIT - for the record) placed a Metropolitan sticker on the unit, then came and advised that it will be $990 to investigate, prior to producing another quote to fix! He also advised he did not have the knowledge or equipment on hand to fix immediately.

Customer Service then call after I've sent a NOT OK METROPLITAN email. Whilst they are polite, they do not acknowledge what you are saying, the answer you get is "you agreed for site attendance and call for quote." Yes quote to repair, NOT INVESTIGATE... In which parallel universe do plumbers earn $990 per hour (or less) to do another quote for the actual repair!! Again, this $990 is not for parts or service - JUST INVESTIGATION for another quote!!

In summary - They are absolute crooks and con men. PLEASE SPARE YOURSELF. DO NOT USE!!

After waiting for 4 hours

After waiting for 4 hours, a plumber attended my property to look at my gas hot water system to provide me 4 quotes to perform any work. 1st quote was to for $950 for someone else to perform some checks, then 9k for a replacement gas system and 12.5k for an electric system. They generously offered to finance the works.

Stay away from Metropolitan Plumbing - they are dodgy. There wasn't anything wrong with my system. Just that the kids had turned off the mains switch. Minimum quote was for $950, but I was recommended to spend $12,600. They take advantage of you when you have an urgent problem.

I got scammed

My AC/heating unit is serviced and clean. The fault was identified as "soft-starter" by another technician. The part was a few hundred bucks to supply, but he didn't have it. I paid his callout fee but didn’t want to wait for the part (it’s winter).

That’s when I called Metropolitan.
I told them about the faulty soft-starter. They charged $141.90 in advance for a call out, and said they would quote for the repair once they confirmed the faulty soft-starter.

The Metropolitan technician didn't turn up at the agreed time, but came next day.

Then he spent less than 5 minutes aimlessly poking and prodding, before declaring he had no idea what the problem was, and I needed to pay $1,849 for their "rejuvenation package" so he can confirm the faulty soft-starter.

My warning is this: Even though I told them what the problem is, these guys knew exactly that they would upsell me an additional $1,849 before telling me their version of what the problem is. They give the scam a cute name like “rejuvenation”.

You'd expect to know what the problem is after a callout fee of $141.90. But it's just so that they can come and charge you an additional $1,849 to actually identify the problem. All this before actual repair parts and labour.

Interestingly the credit card statement description listed the merchant as "Jims Plumbing Adelaide"
