Home Energy Scotland helps people in Scotland create warmer homes, reduce their energy bills, and lower their carbon footprint. We are funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Energy Saving Trust. We work with people and organisations to help tackle fuel poverty and the climate emergency – both key priorities for Scottish Government (and humans in general). We do this through a network of regional advice centres covering all of Scotland, which offer local knowledge and expert advice on saving energy and keeping warm at home, funding options including Scottish Government grants and interest free loans, installing renewable energy at home, greener travel including electric vehicles and ebikes and cutting water waste.

Great communication
Great communication over the phone and via email. Lots of information and guidance given, tailored to my specific property and needs. I was recommended to contact them, and very pleased I did. If you have any energy queries, especially regarding "going green" I would definitely recommend them.
Disgraceful company
Disgraceful company are home energy and technology /neuheat renewables or who ever they are trading under now. work started in January 2026 and has just finished in April. My home was a building site for weeks work was very slow. Carpets and rugs damaged. Furniture taken apart and broken. Victorian furniture water damaged with plaster. Mice coming up through the floor boards that where cut for the air source heat pump pipes. Freezing cold as heating was taken out in January when temperature was -6 at night. Communication was a laugh no one ever gets back to you as there phone numbers no longer work.home signed off when no one came to check it . Still not finished to a good standard.Stay away from this company.

Bombarded with junk emails after contact with them!
They spent ages going through questions and visits knowing we are in a rural area of Scotland and on LPG. After all the faff they wanted to take out out 30KW boiler and fit a 12kw air source heat pump, which even one of their team said wouldn’t be able to heat our home to the temperature we require as both disabled with long term health concerns.
Then to top that off after my last attempt to see if a modern windows and doors were on the scheme (which despite numerous adverts online saying they are, aren’t!) our email has been exposed and we are now bombarded with junk “home energy” emails every day. They of course deny that’s anything to do with them!
I run a tight ship online and use Norton protection on all devices and up until contacting them had virtually no junk.
Waste of office space!
Update, further to the ‘ sympathy’ reply below I already made a complaint which was lodged at the beginning of March. You replied thus…..
“With regards to your complaint, I have logged the feedback you provided on our systems and our full complaints process can be found here: energysavingtrust.borg. uk
I have also passed on the details to the Energy Savings Trust, who manage the Home Energy Scotland programme.
We are unable to determine how and why you received the spam emails your attached screenshots of, in your previous email, as we are not associated with those companies or individuals nor have we made any referrals to any organisations and therefore have not shared any of your information with them.”
We’re now five weeks late and nothing at all from you!

Misleading EPC rating - no email
Did the questionnaire for 1 bed room double glazed ground floor flat with highly efficient new storage heaters. Epc high D. It told me EPC F.
Useless: it suggested room in roof and wall insulation; impossible in a building shared with multiple flats. Why does a ground floor flat need roof insulation!!! Plus to buy energy efficient storage heaters. Useless waste of time.
And there is no email to feed back to them - just a sales line.

Gayle Hainley was so kind and patient when I was struggling with the application for my grant and helped me all the way through it. I’m very grateful to her.
Didn’t do the 5 stars because I realised I was getting 75% of the grant due to the contract so be ready to pay the rest folks.

Home energy Scotland would improve with feedback
If you contact HES, you will usually get a really helpful person doing their best. Around 4 years ago I asked for help and made changes to my home. It didn't reduce my gas use and cost a lot (£25,000). I have checked their website frequently and their advice has not evolved significantly for users of gas central heating. When I stopped trying to insulate and improved gas central heating instead, I saved 70% of my gas used. I tried to offer feedback and was eventually brushed off by an official in the Scottish Government as a complainer. Sometimes big savings can be made to energy use but insulation is not always the most cost effective place to begin. I spoke with a former employee who agreed that staff were also unsuccessful when offering feedback on the website.

A great service that aims to save you money and make your home greener
Following receipt of a flier through the post I called Home Energy Scotland (HES). I spoke to a knowledgeable agent who answered all my questions in a friendly manner.
I am considering replacing 2 windows and a door, and installing solar panels. I was advised there is currently no funding available for either job. However, that situation may change and I was advised to monitor the HES website for changes.
The agent also advised me I do qualify for a loan and grant to replace/install insulation for both my underfloor and roof. I will follow these up soon.
I was happy that HES act only as an advice line, and they provide a list of approved contractors to callers. They do not specify preferred contractors. That decision is left up to me. They also offer energy saving tips and info on how to save money on energy bills, and make reductions to our green footprint, a subject close to my heart.

Exceptional Customer Care – A Huge Difference
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review for Home Energy
Scotland – South East
I called last night after many months of being given the runaround by Proximus Solutions UK.
From the outset, Hannah was absolutely lovely, kind, and genuinely caring as I explained my experience with that company and what had personally happened to my home after the storm ripped my roof off.
She went through everything professionally and thoroughly, helping me through each stage with ease and clarity.
What a difference it makes to a customer service experience when someone truly listens and knows their job. Hannah was absolutely brilliant, and I felt it was only right to leave a review to showcase one of the company’s best members of staff.

Exasperated by the whole saga!
I thought it would be a good idea to see if I could apply for a grant/loan to improve the energy efficiency of my home... now I wish I hadn't wasted my time.
Firstly, I was asked to get quotes for solar panels. I spent about 1/2 a day phoning and emailing some local companies. Then once I received the quotes, I was told it was actually solar water heating that I was eligible for - I'd never even heard of that before. So, off I went and got some quotes for this... then, after more time spent emailing and phoning around, it turns out that it was actually loft insulation and an air source heat pump that I was eligible for. I then arranged for 3x insulation installers to come around to my house to inspect the loft at different times and days, and I got the first quote back this morning. It then transpires that I'm not eligible for this either... so the whole thing has been a complete waste of my time it seems.
I really wish I hadn't bothered!
PS, I am not having a go at the people I dealt with - they are polite and try their best; but the whole thing is confusing and cumbersome in my experience.

The people who helped us provided an excellent service and a huge help in finding our way through the maze of energy efficient possibilities. It's great to get independent and objective advice and even an actual free survey of the house to find out what would be the most optimal way forward in trying to reduce energy bills and save emissions. We have not yet received the written report but were told it would be with us before the holiday.

Genuine helpful experience
Scott contacted me as he was concerned by what I had told him. He was very thorough doing an epc which i needed and explained clearly how an ashp system would work. He let me have a comparison of heating systems and gave me links to more informstion and contacts. I felt much more confident after his visit.
