Home Energy Scotland helps people in Scotland create warmer homes, reduce their energy bills, and lower their carbon footprint. We are funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Energy Saving Trust. We work with people and organisations to help tackle fuel poverty and the climate emergency – both key priorities for Scottish Government (and humans in general). We do this through a network of regional advice centres covering all of Scotland, which offer local knowledge and expert advice on saving energy and keeping warm at home, funding options including Scottish Government grants and interest free loans, installing renewable energy at home, greener travel including electric vehicles and ebikes and cutting water waste.

Take advantage of the Government Grant!
Friendly, polite mannerism, and impartial advice. I did not feel pushed for anything and was given an abundance of reading material links to understand the topic of replacing my old boiler to a heat pump, and add some solar panels too which is what I wanted. Great Government scheme should be taken advantage of.

An amazing and brilliant resource
A brilliant resource for anyone wanting to reduce their energy costs.
Wanted to work out how to harness solar panels, battery storage/back-up, MVHR, water heating solutions, far i/r panels. I'd spoken to dozens of companies in each field but began to recognise that selling me a product didn't mean getting the best or right one for my needs. Only Home Energy Scotland was able to pull everything together in a single package and in a language I could understand.
What's amazing is this service is entirely free. They can even signpost you to loans and grants if applicable.
Everyone I engaged with was super helpful and off-the-scale knowledgeable. I'm a huge fan of the service they offer and 100% recommend them.

Every thing in life takes time
Every thing in life takes time . My experience was good and bad . It took longer than I thought yes there was times I thought I would not get the grant that was worrying.the team in the Scottish office was very healpfull . Even the firm I picked to do the installation AIRA they sent two teams out to survey . A lot of reading understanding things.and waiting I am retired which helped I even had my grand daughter who had degrees helping me with my portal yes there was a lot of emails back and forward but the Scottish office team was on hand to help even the AIRA heat pump team was first class . They I do believe was in contact with the funding team everything takes time . I was very glad when the work finished and the grant paid out . The installation went fine and I am getting used to my radiators working . Many thanks to Alexander and there team helping me with everything involved with there advice and guidance .it would help if you personally got involved with the installation team and payout that would relieve some pressure from the customer. No more gas bill standing charge gone , with our solar system. . Our home is very comfortable and plenty of hot water. Everything has worked out fine thanks to all involved. Jim

They were easy to contact and gave a full and comprehensive appraisal of my property and the options available. It was really good to have this within 24 hours in writing. They also explained how the next stage would unfold through the on-site appraisal of the property and my own choice of contractor.

Poor advice and inadequately run.
Tried to go greener and obtain hest pump grant and was contacted by HES advisor, after much discussion the decision was made, alas that's were it ended with no advice on how to continue, after more advisors and discussions , I was advised I need to Insulate my already Insulated house? But this time I'd need to Insulate underfloor, which is already done? But I'd also need to Insulate my kitchen, which meant moving electrical sockets and plumbing, however I could get a grant for this, or do it myself but could not get a heat pump until I could prove the work was completed.and was advised that if the work wasn't done soon there was no guarantee the heat pump grant would still be availble, then I'd need 3 quotes for the hest pump and upload to a portal, then I could apply for a grant /loan.
£7500 grant then pay the rest of the loan over 10yrs.. I believe this was £10,000
The whole process is so stressful and time consuming, it's designed to wear you down. Speaking to several installers they all said one thing in common, Home Energy Scotland are a nightmare to deal with and way too many loop holes to jump through..
Endless e mails and phone calls to so called advisors, I eventually lost the will and gave up as it was never ending rabbit holes, we alas have gone down the route of new gas boiler and log burners...
And after reading reviews about heat pump failures and having to run the 24/7 and lack of service back up, I think it's the right decision.
I have a feeling heat pump customers will be left with a major headache in the coming service life of these pumps.

Grant applications for insulation upgrade and ASHP installation
I made grant application for insulation upgrading based on EPC at purchase for house we have just moved to. I also made a grant and loan application to enable replacement of existing oil-fired boiler with an Air Source Heat Pump. Both processes were pretty straight forward and we received all we asked for help with.

3 years of trying to get insulation and a complete failure!
The whole scheme is an absolute disaster. The advisors are great but the whole scheme needs to be looked at again. I had been offered a grant for my insulation. Then came the problems. No-one would install it! In the end I found an installer 125 miles from Inverness to install. So the grant would have covered their travel and accommodation costs and next to nothing for actually doing the job! The local approved guy (I hear) has gone bust. Other companies I have contacted seem to be cowboys! For a government scheme it falls well short of expectations and is completely not fit for purpose.
As Gen requested I have now advised home energy Scotland of all the issues I have had regarding this scheme. We will see where we go from here.

First class advice and service from…
First class advice and service from Home Energy advisor who helped me get a resolution within two days from EDF Energy who had me still in limbo after 6 weeks of dialogue.
Also the advice given to me by the advisor has helped me make other decisions about my energy use and I cannot thank them enough for the help they gave me.

No harm in asking........
Initially it was not something I thought I would qualify for but the advisor took time to fully explain everything on offer and what I could take advantage of.
Her knowledge was excellent and advice clear. I was given steps to follow and how the process would work.
I would recommend contacting Home Energy Scotland to anyone. You don't know how you'll benefit till you ask.

Very happy and satisfied customer
I am very happy with the quality of service I received when talking with them. I found them to be extremely polite and helpful. Easy to understand everything that will be happening. The assessor was also polite and explained what they will be doing to the building to make it more heat efficient. Which will make a difference to the cost of Electricity and Gas bills. I would highly recommend them to all my family and friends to contact them, and to also benefit from their services

A really good service
A really good service. The advisor John was helpful and flexible as I was volunteering abroad at the time of the report. He spoke to me at length on the phone and visited my home with my neighbour. The in-depth report was really useful and I am going to put some of the recommendations into practice. Thank you so much
