I was pleased with the service I received. When the first treatment did not solve my particular problem I had a second visit to look at what had been done and suggestions made as to what further work... See more

Found their advert in Quickfind directory. They came the same day I made enquiries and gave a free quote. 50% of cost of work was paid in advance as a deposit. Cameras were used to inspect the drains with instant imagery of faults. They came the next day as arranged and completed the work. Paving slabs were not perfection arranged before the job but I had hoped they would have been aligned a little better than they were, after the job. Have followed advice given to get a different type of tradesman in to guarantee no further issues. Real test of workmanship will be when the weather worsens.

The job was quoted for in detail with clear information about what costed what. The job was arranged very quickly. The people who came to do it were considerate, quick and responsive. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they worked long hours to get it done.

Called to get a quote for flue replacement. Asked for postcode then straight away got told we don’t cover that area can’t help. Well your website says you are all singing and dancing, but offer no valid reason why.

After a previous severe blockage the grease trap was still smelling and needed complete washing out. A visit was arranged later that day but we received plenty of notice that this would not actually be possible and it was rearranged for early the following day. We were contacted by engineer to advise time of arrival which is really helpful as I don't live on site. The job required a pump which was not part of standard equipment so it was speedily arranged to purchase one locally. This meant a delay but didn't have to rearrange visit and job was completed satisfactorily. Price details were explained fully in advance. No complaints about the smell now!

I called No1phd as I had a drain blockage due to a broken manhole cover and broken pieces had fallen into the drain. It wasn’t urgent but I wanted it cleared on the day. They attended in 2.5 hours , assessed the job and got on with it straight away. He was polite, keen and friendly. He completed the job in good time and ensured there was no blockage before he left. Yes I would use them again.

The engineer called before arriving and explained what he was doing throughout. A list of the costs is provided up front but it is difficult to understand what the end cost will be. You effectively have to tot it up as you go making a note of all the services used. The total cost was £425.88 inc VAT for an hours work. Thankfully, I have a credit card could put it on there. It is transparent but not transparent in terms of the costs and feels a bit like you are being had especially for older or vulnerable people who may not be able to afford the final bill. The quote to complete work they say needs to be done to remedy it was quoted at £2895+VAT but I could get the investigation cost taken off the quote for work if I booked in there and then for the weekend. Another provider has since advised these costs seem steep for this work. The immediate issue has been fixed but it feels like I paid over the odds for the job and wish I had done more due diligence first. It seems like this is a common complaint as the customer courtesy call caller said she would make a note of it and tried to get off the call as quickly as possible when I mentioned it.
EDIT - Following this review No1PHD have reached out and offered to refund £210 of the initial cost. Changing the review from 2 to 3 stars as they have made steps to rectify the situation which is appreciated
EDIT - The ‘goodwill gesture’ was only paid on me agreeing to amend my review on here. I was told on the phone the money would only be transferred once they had seen the review amend. I’m not sure how much of a ‘goodwill gesture’ it is if it effectively being held hostage. Being told this has further soured my whole experience with this company.
EDIT - Following the previous edit, Julie, the Office Manager, reached out to me. She listened to my experience and concerns and apologised for my experience. She then called me back again to say that she was unhappy with my experience and was arranging for a genuine goodwill gesture of £100. This was paid straight after the call ended. Thank you Julie for salvaging this experience, caring and listening to my concerns. You are a credit to No1PHD.

Called directly for a blocked foul drain, explained the rates over the phone to me and the engineer called me directly to confirm time of arrival, engineer was very polite and knowledgeable, cleared the blockage and kept me updated throughout and even showed me the fault in my drainage, explained how it could be rectified, authorised to carry the work and was here for a couple of hours then showed me the after of the work being done. Very good experience.

Fast response from the company - man on site in under two hours. Very helpful. Explained all charges BEFORE carrying out any work. Successfully unblocked external drain, and left everywhere tidy after.

Their 2-man team arrived on time in the morning and started work promptly. The job was to burst and reform failing pitch fibre pipework from the foul drain stack to the inspection chamber ( this problem had been discovered using a CCTV probe from the inspection chamber during an earlier visit to clear a blocked drain pipe from the first floor kitchen sink to the stack). Following this, 4 metres of polyester resin liner was installed as a permanent durable barrier. This all appeared to go well and the team had tested the completed work, cleared up and finished by mid afternoon. I have received a full report describing what and why the work was carried out and CCTV videos of before and after pipework inspection and a notice of a 10-year guarantee of the work carried out. I am quite happy with the work that they carried out and the way that they executed it. We were assured that the detectable fumes from the setting resin (detectable within toilets and rooms with sinks) would gradually dissipate over the next 12-24 hours. This they did and were never very strong.

We called PhD1 out after we noticed a blocked drain. They came out that day but were unable to sort out the problem. However they arranged to return 2 days later and we were able to use the other toilet at the house in the meantime. Further investigation showed that the blockage was more extensive than was first realised but it was all sorted the following day. They had to dig up paving stones but all the work was very professional and was left in a good state. The work cost £5 000 but in the end it required 6 man days to sort, in addition to suplies and the fitting of a manhole cover.

Called out for blocked drain as firm appeared in recent CheckaTrader leaflet with local landline and said they’d come (maybe said respond) within two hours. Phoned within 2 hours but came 7 hours later. Unblocked drain quickly (leaves from roof gutter) but decided to investigate next drain. Found lots of hard scale which was bagged and taken away. So far so good, we watched the whole time and he kept working. Gave me form to sign re prices. I didn’t notice CCTV camera was £140 extra. Agreedto this so we paid the shocking final £500 as it was our fault that work went into the third half hour. Advised that pipe needed relining and quoted £3500: with unblocking bill to be forgotten if we went ahead. Then we did what we should have done at the start: asked Anglian Water, our provider, to check. Their advice: no work needed, one minor disconnection not causing issues or likely to. So not a scam and we have a lovely clean pipe, but definitely far too costly with poor advice. Btw, rest of drains are shared with neighbours and Anglian Water carry out all work.

We had a very quick initial response, but on reflection we would have obtained other estimates. The problem was solved a few days later by having new liners in the drains. The engineers were polite and friendly, but spilled a small amount of resin on our drive, and failed to reseat the drain covers completely level. We think the price paid was expensive for half a day`s work for two people.
Following helpful phonecalls with No1PHD we were promised an engineer to re-align the drain covers, which has now happened, thankyou.

No1 PhD came to attend to a drain blockage . As a result of this visit it was found part of the drain system had collapsed, this was attended to. This resulted in three visits. Each time the work was carried out efficiently, and we were kept informed on each occasion what work was required, and the cost involved. The people carrying out the work were friendly and helpful . So I am able to recommend this company

Clear prices on enquiry. The team arrived at the agreed time. The problem was located. Pipes were lined and all done in a very timely manner. All the way through I was kept updated on progress, costs and time the jobs would take. Very greatful for such honest service.
