Greatest app to learn European Portuguese!

As a former language teacher I am generally skeptical about computer-aided learning programs, however PracticePortuguese is very effective.
Some points that I find most useful:
1) it is European Portuguese (most online programs are Brazilian Portuguese, not helpful if you are living/working in Portugal)
2) they use a variety of voices and accent for the listening - incredibly helpful for real life encounters!
3) the explanations of grammar points are clear and include helpful notes
4) a lot of useful extras outside the lessons including podcasts, videos, short listenings, and several ways to review.
5) good and prompt customer service.

I love this app. It's a very helpful guide especially for beginners because it helps explain how European Portuguese is structured. It also helps with learning the different accents and nuances of definitions. Hope they can come up with sample A1-B2 exams that can help simulate actual CEFR level tests for practice :)

This is a great app for learning European Portuguese. There are a vast amount of materials which are easily accessible and indexed. The lessons are clearly explained and can be supplemented with revision, podcasts, videos. There are chat groups and other supports. The longer I have been using this app for, the more I have discovered about its flexibility - so that I can tailor my learning in a way that is fun and accessible for me.

Great app and website to learn European Portuguese. Highly recommended

I have used a few other sources for learning European Portuguese and this subscription by far surpasses all of them. I have been using this for a few months now and have learned so much. My family moved to Portugal last year and this app has been amazing. I can see myself being fluent within a year or so. Which says a lot as it can take several years for that to happen otherwise if at all. I will definitely continue this subscription until I am fluent.

I like how it just doesn't get you to listen but is highly interactive which helps it stick more and teaches you not just to understand, but to speak, read and write the language. Again, nothing out there comes even close to comparison.

this app is just very much fun and makes the learning experience entertaining and not boring. how each topic is divided into sections and the levels are also distinct, gives a good enough indication of the learning progression.

This is just too good. You’ve nailed it. From the simple design to the actual techniques in the lessons, this knocks the traditional language class out of the park. My congratulations to Rui and Joel, the conceivers of this site, and to the whole team that put it together.

This is the most comprehensive and amazing site to learn and practice European Portuguese. As a complete beginner I felt a little overwhelmed with all the resources but the whole package is absolutely amazing, offering the opportunity to both hear and learn the language authentically, test your skills and recap and learn at your own pace. Obrigada "Practice Portuguese". I highly recommend this site to anyone who is serious about learning European Portuguese, you will not be disappointed.

This app has everything to learn a language. It has little short videos with translation, Smart Review which I do while walking my dog and the actual work to learn the language with every tool imaginable. I paid for Duolingo but was turned off by the medals and games. Then I paid for Babbel -same concept as Duolingo. Then I found Practice Portuguese. I’m a doctor so I know how to learn quickly and seriously, you cannot go wrong with this app.

One of the best sources for european portugese, app wasnt the most intuative but after a while got the hang of it and how to better use it, the explanation sections in the units are gold and they are sometimes even a bit funny in the app :)

I cannot think of anything that this company could do to make the customer experience better.
They are the Sine Qua Non of language teaching. I have been with them for years and they just continue to be the best.

I knew a few words before starting but after only 6 weeks (15-30 minutes per day), I was able to understand basic explanations and could explain what I needed. People in Portugal understood me! Although many people in Portugal speak English it was really helpful for those times when I was a little lost. People also reacted well to the effort I made. As for the app, I’ve recommended it to several people. I like that you learn both useful phrases and grammar. I also liked that they use people with different Portuguese accents, so when I was there I could understand people from all over Portugal. I really liked being able to pick the expressions that I wanted to review. Finally, I’ve noticed that the developers are very responsive to suggestions made within the app. I tried 3 apps for Portuguese and this was definitely the best by far.

Practice Portuguese is a very good resource for anyone wanting to learn Portuguese as spoken in Portugal. I don't think you will find a better resource than this. But there is one area that the makers of Practice Portuguese need to develop. Let me explain: most adult learners in western countries need written materials to learn a new language. One big problem learning Portuguese is that there are big differences between the written language and the spoken language. (Example we write "estar" but we say "star".) Therefore we need a way of writing down the spoken language in order to learn it. Most students do not know the International Phonetic Alphabet. But nevertheless something similar is needed. If the makers of Practice Portuguese could solve this problem, it would be absolutely fantastic.

I am learning a new language at sixty years of age. After trying a few other apps I realized that they weren't teaching European Portuguese. I tried Practice Portuguese specifically as a resource to learn European Portuguese, but I have stayed with PP for the outstanding customer service, the interactive lessons, and the social and cultural insights that are so important in becoming fluent in the language. I look forward to working through the lessons daily and I especially like the smart review that gives me the option of focusing on areas where I need extra help instead of repeating areas where I'm comfortable. If you are looking for interactive learning, great customer service/support, self-paced learning, and social and cultural insights Practice Portuguese is the best app you can use.

I could not recommend this app more. I've struggled to learn portuguese through duolingo and other apps but taking one last plunge with practice portuguese was a great decision. It's levels above the other apps and im finally seeing results.

The mixture of flash cards with reading passages and their smart review system actually means content is regularly repeated ensuring higher retention. I have a portuguese partner and reaching A2 has been a great journey for me to understand her language and culture better.

I love learning new languages and this is by far the best app I've ever learned a language with. I love how you can just look up sentences in the translation part and easily add them to your learning. And you can even suggest sentences they don't have yet. I also like how you don't just learn vocabulary and grammar but also context.
The lessons are short so you can easily spend only a few minutes a day learning, Wich is great when you don't have a large attention span
Sure you have to pay for it but it's definitely worth the price

You can tell that a lot of care and attention to detail goes into this platform. That said, the creators blend their perfectionism with creativity and looseness in the podcast/shorties content. It's the best of both worlds - structured, game-ified grammar learning combined with "acquisition" learning (learning based on acquiring a language through exposure rather than studying it). Highly recommend!
