Upsetting experience

When my credit card debt was bought by Aktiv Kapital, I was offered the chance to settle for £1500 in 2009. (I was unable to at the time, sadly). This all changed when they were acquired by PRA. Their offer in 2017 was £3714. Despite having set up a monthly payment plan which I adhered to, by this year the figure should have reduced, right? No, it was a staggering £4000+ I reluctantly scraped enough to pay it off to get rid of them, because the figure seemed to be growing, rather than reducing. Now a pensioner, this was very upsetting. They say you should be assured they will help you as much as they can. My experience suggests this is far from the truth. I've used up all my savings, but at least I can stop worrying.

Very unhelpful in creating solutions

Had some financial issues years ago and through very hard work paid down over 50,000 of debt caused by Ill health and business issues. Every creditor helped me and reasonable shortfall settlements were arranged. Fifty per cent etc. Not PRA. Just so unhelpful. Started off owing 9,000 plus to them and have paid 7000plus!!!...surely that should do it right? No not a cat in hell's chance. Once a customer services officer offered a discount of £100. And now only a very modest discount. Still want another 1400 !!! .....Was so unhappy reduced my monthly payment to a pound as I was struggling to pay a higher amount before but did that in the hope that my effort might be recognised . but just think I am doing all the cooperating and getting nothing in return. Each time they ring and say what is your settlement offer and I said I've already paid 80 per cent odd and yet still offer them more and they go away and come back and say no . Fortunately the other creditors I had I dealt with directly or with much more helpful debt agencies who work with their customers.. very very disappointing and I dealt with all my other financial issues maybe ten years ago but looks like PRA won't ever help me. I feel sorry for people whose debts have been assigned to this company. PRA. Please don't reply if all you're going to do is say you'd like to know more and to ring you. Done that . Been there. Is fruitless sadly

Very suspicious

Phoned up out of the blue and quoted some fantastical number we apparently owed on a debt that was settled years ago. Disputed it, they said ok no further action required as it was so old and they had no proof we owed it.

Next day receive a statement saying we owe them over £1000...

Seems like opportunist scammers to me.

I am helping someone who has been…

I am helping someone who has been hounded PRA due to the negligence of Barclaycard allowing an individual to make purchases without consent and then go on to sell this £2000 odd debt to PRA. I have kept all the evidence of this as the only real course of action will be to seek a legal remedy against this appauling company. No wonder the majority of reviews PRA are so poor.

UPDATE 8/3/22

PRA have now closed the account and I have to say their customer services person was thorough. The battle will now continue with Barclaycard.

PLEASE - NEVER EVER PAY THIS COMPANY - EVER!

Please whatever you do: DO NOT PAY THIS COMPANY!!! Instead, contact directly Gerry or Colin at Joanna Connolly Solicitors, Liverpool at anytime, they are the BEST Legal A-Team I have ever used! They legally assisted me most recently against PRA Group Debt Collectors for a totally unenforceable 10+ year old alleged credit card debt that PRA Group had just bought randomly from a Bank! They were relentless and hounded me day and night! I contacted Gerry directly: 0151 254 6981 (or try 0151 254 6980) and the help was instant, they gave me total peace of mind, I could breathe/sleep/eat again and the Legal Services that I received throughout were outstanding! They kept me informed and updated all the way. Always contactable and friendly/human and extremely professional, they worked with me. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Gerry and Colin got the claim totally dismissed and fully written off by PRA Group themselves who were pursuing me in the very first instance, before even having to attend a Court hearing and WE WON! I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND contacting them for any Debt related matters or, other Legal issues/concerns. Call Handler dismissive of my circumstances

I have two debts that you bought from other companies at a really low figure, rather than face value and I have been paying you monthly via a debt management company for a few years now. I have been given a small financial gift to try and clear these two and other debts once and for all, the other companies were willing to negotiate with several offering to write off a significant part of it and I have partially settled with them. I contacted you by telephone this week and spoke to Lynn to try and negotiate a partial settlement on both debts, she was unable to negotiate other than a system generated offer and said no matter what I said nothing would change, my business has collapsed from Covid19 but she was uninterested and said she could not do anything or write anything down on my behalf and writing to you would make no difference. its disgraceful and unhelpful that you are unwilling to help me to try and clear my debts, my husband is about to retire whereupon the current payments will nosedive and this situation fell on deaf ears when she was told.
Her attitude is at odds with your messages on your website where you say 'As Debt Solution specialists, we work with our customers to help them resolve their debt in an affordable way that works with their budget' obviously she does not care and seemingly nor do you, The debt management plan runs out when I am 156 years of age ( ! ) so I would have thought that you would be willing to be more flexible, if you care then can I speak to someone who does care to discuss further?

Don't stop calling although I blocked the number.
We are pensioners so we don't have a limitless income, but they never give up.

Surprise!

I was surprised to see so many bad reviews because my experiences with PRA have always been positive. The debt is mine, historic or not, and remains my liability. I recently approached PRA to amend my agreement to a lower figure due to the current cost of living crisis. My email was responded to and my proposal accepted within 6 hours.

Pra group owe me money they're scammers

Pra group owe me money. I called on 26th May was told refund issued and would receive email. 4 days later no email so called back to be told it hasn't been done and will have to do it again. Its now been 5 days since then and still no refund. Complaint raised but not upheld by manager as apparently it was sorted out on my first call, if that's the case it's been 9 days and I still haven't received payment. They also didn't notify me I was owed money. I am going to escalate to FCA whatever you do don't pay them money they are lying scammers

Bullies that Harras you daily, Worst company ever

They continue to harras you daily, even when you have a direct debit setup, continously making your life Hell! such a pain in the ass company that feeds off peoples losses, they should be taken to court for making people miserable and I believe they enjoy it! Auto Dialler Harassment

Having requested supporting information for a debt and receiving confirmation that the debt was unenforceable, I let PRA Group know that I will not be in communication with them until they can provide some evidence that the debt is enforceable. Since that moment, I have had an auto dialler phone call from them every single day for over a year requesting a call back. If this is not harassment, I don't know what is. I have blocked their number but that does not stop the auto dialler call leaving countless voicemails.

I think the other reviews on here (not including the obvious glowing 5 star reviews put up by PRA themselves) show a very clear pattern of a business using underhanded tactics to exploit and pressure people who find themselves in financial difficulties.

I will not be in touch about my "experience" in some covert way to get on to the topic of the unenforceable debt which I have made myself quite clear about. I would simply like the phone calls to stop and for you to only contact me should you have new information relating to any money owed.

PRA Group Debt Collector Deception.

PRA Group Debt Collectors is an out right fraud as my successful court case has proven. The judge took a very dim view of PRA Group's tactics and threw the case out because PRA Group perjured themselves in court by providing a fake reconstituted Default Notice which was sloppy of them because they forgot to remove the second and different date of default because they were using someone else's Default Notice which had the wrong dates. This is a common practice.

Forged Notice of Default.
Incorrect Particulars of Claim, including the alleged debt being owed to the wrong bank. Just frankly moronic and deceptive behaviour that was met with little tolerance in court.
Therefore include: Fraudulent demand for payment whilst having no legal title to the alleged debt.
INCESSANT AND AT TIMES LATE DAILY CALLS TRYING TO ENFORCE A DEBT THEY HAVE NO LEGAL TITLE TOO.

I decided to stop paying for my own mental torture and distress, I had family issues with my elderly mother being in palliative care. They then had the stupidity to take me to court...

So firstly, demand PRA Group supply you with the Original Consumer Credit Agreement and Default Notice. They have strict deadline within which to respond, with their loosey goosey approach to business you might even get fortunate at this stage and they fail to meet the time requirements set out in the 1974 CCA.

Without these LEGAL documents meeting the terms of the 1974 Consumer Credit Act is impossible.

Seek a good Solicitors advice.
I used Joanna Connolly Solicitors and I can't rate then highly enough once they explained the business model that debt "companies" like PRA Group employ. They beat PRA Group in court regularly because PRA Group are not acting legally.

PRA Group's business model:

They bulk buy 000’s of bank debt for pennies in the pound and then pursue the creditors for the full amount by using intimidation methods like daily phone calls all whilst typically not having the legal title to enforce the debt. They’re like financial parasite.

So again seek legal advice.

If PRA contact me I will issue them with a cease and desist notice.

Answer the email but read it first

Just beginning to try and gain a full and final settlement figures. They have ignored what i have said I could afford and sent me something nearly 4 times higher. Whereas I know that my offer may be too low to just completely ignore it and what i was saying is dam rude. I may be able to negotiate it better have replied back lets just see but reading this doesn't give me much hope.
