Unexpected extra charge
I had to switch from the AA to the RAC to insure our car. Both in turn, after accepting my request and taking a reasonable premium charged us a significant extra amount for a small scrape in a car park my wife had had about 5 years ago. (Admittedly we did not challenge our then insurer's poor handling of the claim, [paying a big bill without asking for competitive quotes and ignoring poor parking by the damaged vehicle], so it just went on record causing both companies to charge us extra.) Lesson learned.

I hadn't long joined the RAC having…
I hadn't long joined the RAC having left the AA when my car wouldn't start at home. The operative came out within the promised time and diagnosed a duff battery which was replaced. He ran a diagnostic having disconnected the system and also took the car on a test run. Excellent.
