Clearly not full disclosure.

Rented a BMI from Buchbinder at FRA. Remitted $280 to RentalCars.com only to learn apon arrival my 'same class' Ford would cost an additional $180. Buchbinder would not honor the Collision coverage inherent with my Barclay arrival+ card and also added $30 for windshield / theft protection.

RC.com was fully aware of these policies but said nothing on their website. Oh by the way, returning the vehicle a day early is also lost money with RC.

Oh well, live and learn; next time it will be direct with Hertz or another reputable rental firm.

Appalling customer service

Booked a car through rentalcars.com on line - description 4 door saloon with space for 2x large suitcases and up to 4 passengers.
completed pre pick up information on the understanding that a quick hassle-free pick up was assured with no additional paperwork and would be on the road in minutes!
On arrival at pick up point (Dollar) waited over 1 hour to be seen. Was then informed I had booked a two door saloon - even though I had the voucher in my hand showing 4 door. Was then told no vehicles available and waited further hour.
Eventually handed keys to different type of vehicle (described as "upgrade") which had almost no boot at all. Ended up with suitcases resting on the back seat and half on top of rear seat passenger.
Complained to rental cars immediately who claimed as car was upgraded from booking they were unable to compensate or offer any solution.
on return to home country I wrote long letter of complaint together with photographic evidence. - response from rentalcars took over two months - after several chase ups. Final word was no compensation or acknowledgement that they had failed to provide the service and vehicle advertised and expected.
Disgusting service and response. Avoid.

Pre paid without car!!!!!!!!!!!

my name is Lucio Improta and I took a car through your company by paying in advance, and when I came to the retreat I have not found. They said that I was late. I chose to pay in advance to be sure to find the car. I was treated very badly by the manager of Paros SIXT and I had trouble finding a clean car at a cost much higher. Not going to use ever more your site and your company to rent cars.

Payed 5 days for nothing ! The CAR was canceled ! No money back!

I just payed 5 days but didn't receive any car in Iguacu (Brazil)-
If we are lucky we get the rent for two days back !. Thats how they earn the money...
by saying that if your are not there on time (our "Flybillet" fill the time automatically at rentalcar home side to pick it up!- ) - sorry you can't get the car they filled in incorrectly ....
and we can't give you money back because if your are late - some companies write two hours some one, we can charge you anyway not giving you what you payed for!!!! That a thief speaking....
When you payed for a car from a certain time, you have that car from that time even you are not there - you can't cancel and give the car away - the family has planed a holiday - which rentalcar and what else's f...companies who thinks it is okey to destroy!!
Lesson : NEVER PAY BEFORE YOU HAVE THE CAR AND DON'T USE RENTALCAR !!!!

Very tricky and false

1. I booked a car with all insurance coverage. Next hour I receive a message that not all insurance is covered and asking for more money. I said that maybe I did not read carefully enough so I canceled the same day.

2. I booked a car and made all downloads of print screen of each step. I find a car with all extra insurance including excess and full coverage. One hour later I receive a message that again not all insurance is covered and are asking for more money.

Trick: there is no download of insurance and rental conditions. You receive a rental confirmation very generic without the detailed commitments about insurance which were advertised when you make the car selection. So unless you have several print screen you can not even proof that you have paid the full insurance (which is quite a small proof for a service payment).

When I canceled the car I explained the incorrect status about insurance payed and then not payed. They avoided not sent the clarification documents and just say "everything is ok".

3. At each rental cancellation they said that the money is returned completely. False. I checked the bank statement and issue a complain to them but no solution from their side. I sent them the bank statements showing the difference calculation in euro. Response was again generic without arguments on real situation.

Terrible deceitful website and unhelpful customer service

I feel totally ripped off by Rental Cars. I booked my car from Canada to pick up in Brighton 4 days after my arrival in the UK. My confirmation implied that insurance was included. When I picked the car up I had to pay more for the insurance than the car itself. I was then told if I booked in the UK I could have saved myself £100. Rental cars agreed this was the case but have not offered any compensation. My husband and I visit the UK 3 or 4 times a year between us, and asked for some compensation maybe towards the car hire on our next visit. Rental Cars were not interested. Can't see how they will stay in business with their attitude and misleading website.

scam! Use only for price comparison!!

I used rentalcars.com last weekend and was really unsatisfied with the service provided. 1) When picking up the car, I was told that I had to provide a proof of address through a utility bill or similar, because I'm new to the UK, however the confirmation email only mentioned ID, driving license, credit card. When I called rentalcar, they told me that the proof of address was mentioned... in the terms and conditions on which I had agreed. Well, of course, I can't argue with that - but who reads nowadays the terms & conditions of every singly site we use??
Also, I realised that prices through rentalcars were not competitive at all. I was charged around £25 for the car and £28 (!!!) to reduce excess cover for one day... had I not used rentalcars.com and gone directly through the company, rent would have been £20-25 and insurance less than £10.

Unethical Business Practices

I will never book with this site again! I thought it was weird when I was asked to pay for the car insurance up front but when I cancelled the rental booking was told that it was an outside provider that my insurance was booked through and I had to call separately. I was annoyed. And after speaking directly to the company that billed ,my credit card I was told to call carrental.com who don't answer their phones (I was on hold for 20 minutes).
This isn't right! This is unethical business practices!

The funniest thing is they have on their site these great reviews from Trust Pilot but don't actually link to it, because if they did people would see how poorly they are actually rated! And they're part of Priceline group??

SCAM

They charged me for 3 days rental and send me a confirmation. When I arrived to the distension, the rental company did not have any records in their system and the booking was invalid.
I tried calling customer services several time( very expensive to make double international calls), they don't respond.

I will contact my bank to report froud and see if I can get my money back. I will also keep warning my fellow travelers from using rentalcars.com by posting in forums and websites.

They charged me 8 days car hire for 4 HOURS use ( rip off )

STAY AWAY from rentalcar.com because if you have a valid reason to return the car early or you want to modify the rental rentalcar.com will not refund any money that the vehicle is not in use ...SIXT car hire in Barcelona didn't charge me for the 4 hours or the days left which was considerate and well appreciated but because i went through this shady internet company I was charged the whole amount....I was willing to pay a reasonable cancellation fee to both but it was rentalcar.com that charged me all 8 days hire for 4 HOURS...rentalcar.com has written a shameful and uncompromising terms and conditions policy that has plenty of surprises and hides behind it.
When I asked the question of returning part payment of the 8 days car hire....NO WAS THE ANSWER...
its much better to go directly to the BIG hire car companies because you wouldn't get the same appalling result that i got from rentalcar.com.

Fraud

I rented 2 cars from a company called fire-fly car rental in Faro Portugal, which aparently is owned by Hertz and a 1 from Goldcar car rental also in Faro Portugal, to make a long story short they started of by presenting us with a skoda fabia as one of the cars instead of the Ford Focus estate that we orderd and then charged me extra 145 euros for each car when returning the cars, because they wanted me to return it as emty as possible, so they can charge me more tha double for the gas + some other fees I have never experienced before when renting a car. None of these charges where mentioned when booking the cars. They also maxed out my creditcard for insurance that I didn't need, before i could have the car, which I think is just plain rude.

This ofcourse goes without saying that I will never rent from this company again.
