Report My Loss is used by thousands of people each month to securely and conveniently submit details of lost items, from phones and laptops to jewellery and bikes. It can surprise people that Report My Loss is not publicly funded and why there is a fee for the service. Lost property reporting is not a statutory duty of policing, so many constabularies no longer undertake it. When you create a new loss report, it is placed on a secure database (the police NMPR system). The lost item can then be searched by police and lost property offices nationally, increasing the chances of recovered items being identified and returned to you. In the event of needing to make an insurance claim, Report My Loss certificates can normally be used in place of police loss report references (which many forces have phased out). Report My Loss should only be used for accidental losses. If a theft has taken place, this should instead be reported to the police force for the area in which the crime took place. They will be able to provide you with a crime reference number.

The questionnaire was frustrating
The questionnaire was frustrating. The first question should be "What have you lost?" In my case, a pair of glasses in a case, but that doesn't appear in your list of options.. As for serial numbers, they are most likely to be on the lost article!
I had to go back several times to fill in information I thought I'd already included, this all took too long.

What's good, not so good
I liked the ease of completing the form which is important when a loss of an item is so distressing. My brain was like jelly and I had forgotten everything important so having clarity on the form was important. The section on completing the IMEI number could have been more simple - what is needed is 2 IMEI numbers and the model number - that is worth clarifying.
