Report My Loss is used by thousands of people each month to securely and conveniently submit details of lost items, from phones and laptops to jewellery and bikes. It can surprise people that Report My Loss is not publicly funded and why there is a fee for the service. Lost property reporting is not a statutory duty of policing, so many constabularies no longer undertake it. When you create a new loss report, it is placed on a secure database (the police NMPR system). The lost item can then be searched by police and lost property offices nationally, increasing the chances of recovered items being identified and returned to you. In the event of needing to make an insurance claim, Report My Loss certificates can normally be used in place of police loss report references (which many forces have phased out). Report My Loss should only be used for accidental losses. If a theft has taken place, this should instead be reported to the police force for the area in which the crime took place. They will be able to provide you with a crime reference number.

Made a Report with Report my Loss
I would have liked to have given more details about my loss as it was a purple handbag found in a public location. It had my house keys, drivers licence, phone and purse( with cards in it). There just didn't seem enough room to put it in. I could only make the report when I found out the serial number of my phone. I suppose it makes sense. Anyway, fingers crossed .It's good to know that the Police designed the system, and I realise the difficulty with resources reuinting the people with their lost property.
