I contacted Retraining Pain looking for help when I was facing multiple health related issues which had also affected my mental health. These days
These days, the term 'holistic' is often overused, but Romy's expertise across multiple fields and her genuine holistic methods were truly refreshing. Managing pain is intricate, and much remains to be uncovered—everyone's experience is distinct, making universal solutions ineffective. Interestingly, Romy collaborates with you, understanding what is effective and what isn't, and adjusts accordingly, never pretending to have all the solutions. Am I completely back to my old self? No, and I don't anticipate that will happen. Is my pain entirely gone? No, but my ability to manage both the physical and mental aspects of it has greatly improved, allowing me to truly live my life again.I wholeheartedly recommend Romy to anyone dealing with pain. When I first consulted her, I was at a low point; now, the transformation in me is remarkable.Thank you, Romy, with all my heart.
CRPS pain and trauma
Romy has been integral to my journey to reduce the effect of my CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) post surgery and explore new ways of responding to my pain. She also supported me with EMDR which helped to process some experiences. I’m thankful for her support as I was in a much worse place when I first was referred to her. I’ve learnt lots of new ways of moving forward (albeit need reminding lots).
Pragmatic, useful pain management and EMDR
I had support from a very skilled and experienced clinical psychologist following a traumatic and serious injury leaving me permanently disabled and with chronic pain. The approach is very flexible and tailored around your needs. I found EMDR to be very intense, it's hard work and you need to give yourself time.
I learned a lot of useful and usable methods for understanding and managing pain; and how I can do the things I want to do despite pain; very values driven.
Most of my sessions were online though we did have a few face to face meetings. I found the mixture of approaches and the use of different ways of managing pain very helpful.
Amazing experience, thank you
I’m able to manage my pain symptoms so much better these days and Ive learnt that I have control over my own body which I never thought I would. I don’t think I would be in this position if I hadn’t had support from you so I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything you did for me. The techniques you taught me have changed my life and I’m very grateful to have learnt from you and to be living the life I am now.
20 years of pain and it's all but gone!
Dr Romy Sherlock was fantastic, very knowledgeable about multiple therapeutic techniques and tailored to my needs. She really understood the complexity of my situation and has a truely person centred approach. My chronic pain, which I have lived with for over 20 years is all but gone! I can now manage my pain when it does show up and it has given me hope. I have learnt so much and can highly recommend Retraining Pain.

I struggled with back pain for 7 years (and other health problems) it completely dominated and limited my life. After seeing multiple different physical therapists over many years, with no improvements, a friend recommended Romy.
Within a few of months of having sessions with Romy my life was transformed. I now have my life back, I can do things that I enjoy and I am pretty much pain free! Retraining Pain has changed my life!
Retraining Pain with Dr Romy and Andy
My experience with Dr Romy and Andy has been really supportive from the start and they have helped me through some tough situations that I have been dealing with both physically and mentally.
I had struggled along for months before coming across ‘Retaining Pain’ and now I’m able to cope with their support.
Andy has helped me physically with some easy to remember routines that I still use daily and they have given me the confidence to do what I couldn’t and wouldn’t do before. I really struggled with some elements of my pain but Andy has helped me manage what I do to rest before the pain starts which makes me perform better everyday.
Dr Romy has supported me mentally to look at ways to help me improve my mental health and the way I manage my down time. I have struggled with my depression and anxiety since my accident but I am learning to cope better and I work through the challenges with Dr Romys support. I have been give support and assistance so I can rest and recover as well as the way I look at myself both mentally and physically, I’m never going to be able to do what I did before my accident but I have been given a second chance thanks to Dr Romy and Andy from Retraining Pain.

The word 'holistic' is bandied around a…
The word 'holistic' is bandied around a little too freely these days, however the experience that Romy has in a number of areas, and her true holistic approach, was a breath of fresh air. Pain management is complex, and a lot is still being understood - everybody is unique in this regard, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Although it may seem a strange thing to say, Romy works with you, seeing what works, what doesn't work, and pivoting where necessary, and never pretends or alludes to having all the answers. Am I 100% back to 'normal' - no, and I dont think that is going to happen. Is my pain and discomfort completely gone? Also no, but my experience of the pain, both physically and mentally, is immensely more manageable, and I am actually living my life again.
I wouldn't hesitate on recommending Romy to anybody struggling with pain. When I first went to her, I was *low*, and there is an incredible difference in me now.
Thank you Romy, from the bottom of my heart.

Reinforced my belief that my pain was neuroplastic and could change
I contacted Romy from Retraining Pain after having dreadful pain on walking for 7 months after an abdominal operation. Romy was great at giving me confidence that my pain was neuroplastic and that I could recover just using my brain. She gave me simple techniques to follow which definitely contributed towards my recovery. I'm 90% better and hoping the rest of the pain will go with time.
