The benefits of outdoor experiences are widely evidenced, and our belief in its ability to build confidence, skills, team work, leadership and a greater love for the outdoor environment is the foundation of all we do. We aim to build programmes that offer positive experiences for every participant. We recognise that everyone has different needs; talk to us, and we will do all we can to understand and respond to those needs.

Both my children did their bronze DofE…
Both my children did their bronze DofE expedition with School of Outdoors. Both really enjoyed it. Their main expedition was during the hottest day of summer last year, and appropriate adjustments were made.

Equipment provided was good and well…
Equipment provided was good and well maintained. However disappointed by failure to make provision for neuro-diverse participants, with them being excluded against the wishes of their team-mates who had already completed bronze and silver with them. Final expedition report incorrectly completed by School of Outdoors delaying signing off of Gold DofE for 8 months and missing the opportunity to attend ceremony with friends.

Hi Suz, Thank you for your feedback. I have managed to look in to the delay with regards to your child's DofE expedition. We sent it to your and then email on the 23rd August. I apologise that you didn't receive this. The first time we became aware this was missing was in September when a representative from the DofE requested a copy and this was supplied within 7 days. We are not always able to meet the needs of all people and apologise that we were not able to meet the needs of the young person you refer to, but in most cases the decision lies with his school who authorise who can and cant attend. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this in more detail.

School of outdoors seem organised and reliable with enthusiastic instructors.
Communication with parents and children is minimal and relies on you retaining information which is sent out right at the beginning of the award gaining process.
We found ourselves on a Saturday in the Easter holidays struggling to find the information we needed to help our 16 year old prep for the following day's training. We had had no reminders or information since the previous training day 4 months previously.
So, great organisation if you are good at keeping track of expectations, dates, requirements etc.
