Skilled Handyman is a professional, safe and reliable domestic and commercial property maintenance service with head office in Gerrards Cross and Branch Offices in Chesham, Maidenhead, Henley On Thames, Windsor, Weybridge, Reading and Bracknell. We have a variety of tradesmen that are skilled in carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation repairs, and other handyman tasks.

We provide a “One Call Does It All” service; we handle large and small property maintenance and refurbishment requirements. Our technicians are also NICEIC and GAS safe registered. Our locally employed tradesmen and staff serve both businesses and residential in the local community. They are supported by our customer services department which interfaces with the clients. In summary our tradesmen are:

• Multi Skilled in carpentry, plumbing, electrics and handyman tasks
• Fully trained and qualified Gas Safe & NICEIC (National Inspection Council For Electrical Installation Contracting) registered
• CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked (enhanced)
• Fully insured
• Their work is fully guaranteed for six months
• They are supported by our Customer services department
• They wear shoe gloves when they enter your premises and clean and vacuum after the job is completed
• They are happy to help.

A sample of clients who we are providing the service to is Mattel, Pharmalink Consulting, Investmaintain, Anadarko Oil, Dentsply Limited, Childcare4U, Westwood Farm Infant school, Caversham Preparatory School, HRP Limited, Housing Interaction Trust, Way In, Loco Communications Limited, Dimensions and many commercial property management agents and landlords.

I would appreciate if you could consider us for your property maintenance needs whether large or small as we are able to respond quickly and carry out multiple jobs within the agreed time scales therefore you do not need to call different tradesmen for different jobs. We have no call out or travel charges. We only charge for the time our tradesmen work on hourly basis.

As others state - DO NOT USE

Absolutely awful experience and very shady people. Booked a service based on the expectation communicated to me. Needless to say expectation and reality were very, very far apart. What was supposed to take 1 day took 3 days and they didn’t even deliver on what was promised not they did they show up on day 3. Literally every day there was some sort of issue. Very quick to take your money but try getting a refund for them not showing up and you’ll see what these people are really about. Also, and more worryingly, my wife has “lost” valuables following their arrival. I will be reporting to them to the police and also raising a dispute regarding the refund.

BAD EXPERIENCE!!!

Based on our experiences, I would advise you NEVER to use this company. We wanted some heating pipes boxed in, some lights taken down and a new plug socket. The man they sent took close to EIGHT hours to box in the pipes and was not Part B qualified so could not do the new socket. The man admitted he was not a qualified electrician but we were still charged the electrian’s rate because we had asked for an electrician!!! Their website clearly states that if you have the engineer for 8 hours, you only pay for 6. We were charged for the full 8 hours because apparently 'you have to book the day rate in advance'. It does not say this anywhere on their website or literature!! The following day, they took £859.33 from my bank without any warning – it was sheer luck that I had that much in my account! They also charged me twice for the pre-payment fee and despite admitting that this was an error, my money has still not been returned. I have written repeatedly to the company outlining my issues and have still to receive a satisfactory response.

Do not use this service!

I called to book in to have several jobs completed at my flat, all requiring either a handyman or an electrician, I explained in detail on booking the scope of the jobs and was told that one person for one day would be sufficient and that if they completed the job earlier they would revert to charging for the hourly rate. On booking my debit card was charged £160 by way of deposit.

The handyman arrived 10 minutes late and proceeded to talk a lot about what he needed to do, rather than getting on and doing it. He then disappeared for 2 hours to go and get supplies, from a local hardware shop less than 15 mins away from my property- most of which were not actually used for the job. On his return he completed one of the jobs inside, it was then too dark for him to continue working outside on the other jobs so he finished at 3pm and said he’d come back on Sunday. I signed the works order for that day and was then immediately charged for the day but wasn’t credited the £160 previously charged. Although I felt like I was being taken advantage of, and in hindsight shouldn't have proceeded, I agreed to the handyman coming back on Sunday- at increased rates- to complete the job as I had already taken one day off work.

Having agreed that he would arrive at 10am on Sunday I called at 10.15am to find out where he was, apparently stuck in traffic but would be with me in 20 minutes – the onus was on me to contact him. I then received a call 30 minutes later saying that due to a personal issue he wouldn’t be able to make it that day. I checked my bank account later that day and immediately saw that they had debited my account £525 for work that wasn’t carried out and that I hadn’t authorized them to take payment for.

Almost 3 weeks later I have only just had the money returned to me in full. I have called on several occasions and been assured that it is in hand, leave it for 24 hours, send an email and still continue to get nowhere. How skilled handyman can operate in this way is outrageous and totally unethical.

I cannot express enough how much stress and inconvenience this company has caused me and hope that no one ever has to go through that again, I will be reporting them to Trading Standards.

They've failed to attend on their scheduled appointment. Took time off works to meet the engineer at home, he didn't turn up nor did I get any phone call to be informed of this. I phoned them to express my disappointment and asked for a refund, I had to wait for three weeks and start a court case for the refund to be made.
Stay away from them.

DO NOT USE

Booked a call out for an engineer to come and look at my heating as not working. Once booked, although a date was provided for a booking the company did not communicate a time of attendance ie either AM/PM. A representative of the company arrived on the day, advised that he was not the appropriate person but had been sent to take a picture of the boiler. He spent 5 minutes doing this and before he left as I asked him, what now. I was advised a skilled engineer would visit the premises. At 14:00 hours I chased and was advised that someone would call me back, no calls returned. I chased again at 15:30 hours, again told someone would return my call. This time I did have a call back, advising me that they have ordered the parts and that it would arrive Monday or Tuesday. The said part was ordered on the basis of a photo taken at a cost of a call out. When I tried to question the basis of this rationale and not conferring with the customer, the called turned quite rude and eventually put the phone down

I will use this company never again

I will use Skilled Handyman never again. I would expect people of their trade to come in a van with basic tools and fixings present, and only in exceptional cases leaving to buy something. The guy did not have a standard filler with him, was absent for more than an hour, chatted all the way in a relaxed manner and eventually charged me for four hours work, where he actually worked at most 2 hours or less in total. Outrageous.

There are many words I could use to…

There are many words I could use to describe our experience with this company and unfortunately none of them are positive. I had to chase a "handyman" when he didn't show up at the time given by the company.
We were then told he couldn't make the appointment and came the next day. Again they showed up late & seemed clueless about what the job was.
They only had to fit some door handles, why did it take two men to do this?
Final result.... handles look awful as they are wonky and they didn't even use all the screws provided. Who only uses three screws when there are clearly wholes for four???? I could rant all night but I wont waste any more energy...would I recommend these guys ..definatley not!!!!

Quality Work by a professional

James completed a number of jobs around the house in an hour. He's done a very good job in getting the task done. Very friendly, yet he maintained professionalism all throughout the job. He's definitely an asset to this company and whose example should be followed by others in the trade.

I have just paid £240 to have 4 rollers…

I have just paid £240 to have 4 rollers blinds hung. I feel disappointed because I felt they omitted vat in the original quote so their charge out was £78 per hour and not £65 as I had thought. Maybe my oversight. However, I wasn't around when they did the work and I returned to find all the blinds were hung up backwards. A real pain in the neck for such a lot of money.

I am sorry that you feel disappointed with our service; I have looked into this case to see if there were any variables to as why this has happened as this is uncommon for this to happen.

I'm afraid it seems that there was a problem with being able to contact you, despite this being resolved I have also noticed that you were unhappy with the quality of the work. I have spoken to the Multi-skilled Technicians and as you was not present at the property he worked on initiative, he did mention it’s only a matter of turning the blind curtains the other way round. Although as you are covered under our warranty we are more than happy to pop over and do this for you!

An hour late twice.

An hour late twice. Job not finished and no cleaning materials to tidy up properly. The Skilled Handyman took 30 mins of phone calls and moved his vehicle to avoid parking fees during the time charged to me, and I have ended up paying! Apparently anything over an hour is charged up to the next hour. Funny how aggressive they are about their charging policy , but they are totally unwilling to respect my time. This was a 40 min job and I have paid double what I expected. Please note that their ‘guaranteed arrival time’ is a two hour window over which they seem to have complete discretion over. Some of the office staff are rude and devoid of charm which thoroughly lets down the rest of their team.

Thank you for your review Rosemary. We are sorry to hear you were not satisfied with our service. The reason for the lateness is that the handyman was delayed on a previous job and therefore was late arriving at your home.
You were contacted prior to this to keep you informed. Where you are situated and at 5pm in the evening, there was going to be obvious traffic issues around that part of London.

I re-booked you for the Friday morning of that week and again traffic was a problem. That is the reason we give a window and then updates.These were given to you.

I completely understand your frustration on timings and sympathise with your position as far as taking time off work. We tried to accommodate you as best as we could.

I am surprised to hear you felt the office staff were rude and devoid of charm as I remember dealing with the bookings personally for you and did sympathise with your plight. I can only apologise on the company's behalf if you felt that was not the case.

Again, it is a shame your were not satisfied and hope I have explained the reasons why this happened.
