Definitely could be valuable going forward...
I thought this could be a valuable tool going forward, I liked that a lot of the questions were answered with the video instead of testing how fast of a typer you are. Some of the question could have been worded a little better and I felt that the job supervisor questions were hard to answer because of the info required.
SortSmart review
I thought that this was a great way to screen for medical schools. It encompasses all of the best parts from different admissions tests.
Good Experience Overall
This was overall a good interview experience, and I could see it being helpful for programs to screen candidates when they do not have the bandwidth to interview everyone in person. However, it is not particularly innovative. Additionally, some of the questions were confusingly worded and far too long to answer in the allotted time.
Innovative interview tool
While SortSmart's interview was definitely conducted in a different format than what I was used to, it was an innovative way to effectively assess who the candidate was as a person. I enjoyed the questions since they were less of the stereotypical "why medicine" questions that you would get in a medical school interview. The actual question prompts caught me off guard, and because of that, I ended up being much more candid in my responses than I thought I would be. I especially enjoyed the questions in which I had to draw upon an example from my own life that matched the situation I was being asked about. Overall, I believe that this assessment collected a more multi-faceted image of who I was as an individual, rather than just as a medical school candidate.
I thought it was a great interview…
I thought it was a great interview tool!! It was helpful that there was a variation in questions (both written and video-recorded)! I do think it would be helpful though if like during the written questions, where the question was first presented for 20 seconds before the allotted time for writing the answer, the video questions had 20 seconds for you to read the question before the video began to record you and count down the time you had remaining.
It was very easy to navigate
It was very easy to navigate. It was great that there was no person on the other end, which helped put my nerves at ease. 1-2 questions weren't worded clearly, but the rest were good. Overall, I think the way the test was set up made it a good and fair screening tool for applicants.
Would Recommend with minor Tweaks. Great program!
I think that SortSmart is a great program to review applicants based on parameters that are more reliable than test scores or entirely written, impersonal applications. I would include a short time period where interviewees could read the prompt before being recorded and timed for their response, as reading the question takes time out of the portion designated for an answer. However, I found that the interface runs smoothly and the times were of appropriate length. Would definitely recommend SortSmart over some of the more traditional approaches to an application process.
Easy to use and intuitive
Good software
Good software. Some questions were not worded very concisely and made it confusing to try and understand in the few seconds you had before going into the answer. Overall ran smoothly and easy to navigate
Simple and easy
The interview was great
The interview was great. I wish they asked less job based questions since I personally have not had much experience working at all. Outside of that I believe the questions were fair and pretty easy to navigate through.
Great screening tool
Great interface with excellent questions to stimulate thought process.
Easy to use and allows one to self-reflect.
Good screening tool.
I loved the experience
I loved the experience: it was both nerve wracking and put me at ease. The questions asked were thrilling and fresh, and although I did stumble from time to time, I'm sort of glad as it reflects who I am and shows my thought process. I think overboard with talking about ONE particular role I had, but that's OKAY! That's who I am, and I hope that comes through. The process was effortless, smooth and was nearly under 60 minutes! All in all, there is nothing I would change!
Easy interface to use
Easy interface to use. Excellent communication.
Highly recommend it!
SortSmart is the most efficient and effective interview I have ever had. Without any extra setting of computer, I can take part in the interview when I am ready for it at anywhere and anytime. Also, the questions are unlike traditional interview questions. They help me retrospect and prospect my life.
SortSmart is an interview tool that reduces barriers to access.
The SortSmart interview system was an effective way to interview students and get a sense of who they are and how they measure up in person to the person presented in their application file. I especially appreciate that the online format allows ease-of-access to people who may not be able to afford in-person interviews, interview attire, or housing. It also gave me questions that strayed from the usual interview content and aimed to gauge my history, such as my experiences with employers, or projects I had to abandon. Questions like those, which had little to do with medical school, caught me off guard in a way that is important in an interview, and let me give the interviewer a glimpse of what my life outside of medicine's sphere was like. They were the kinds of questions that could place on equal footing interviewees who had the privilege of accessing extensive interview preparation material and interviewees who did not get to prepare in this way at all. The practice interview that SortSmart provided to users was also useful in preparing interviewees to handle the time limits on each answer in a standardized way, to avoid confounding results due to unfamiliarity with the software or pace.
The SortSmart MoBio scholarship
The SortSmart MoBio scholarship program was easy to use and understand, and took away the hassle of trying to schedule Skype/telephone calls or in-person interviews
I highly recommend this program
I highly recommend this program. While I haven't done anything like it, I see the utility of using a program like this that requires you to think on your feet while giving responses that reflect a high level of self-awareness.
I would highly recommend it!
SortSmart turned out to be a wonderful simulation of the real admission process / interview - for university, job and any serious role, really! The video recording reminded me that I am indeed being "watched", as in a real interview. The timer simulated the experience of an intense test in which one needs to think clearly and think fast while giving a response that makes sense. Written responses tested yet another skill - of putting together a short but logical answer to a given question with as much relevant content as possible. I would recommend this online interview test to anyone, especially those who need to become more familiar with the feeling of pressure which the interview environment may elicit.
