Silence is Golden

Review of Soundproofing Store
I recently purchased materials from Soundproofing Store for building an independent stud wall, and overall, I’m pleased with the experience.
The team at Soundproofing Store was very helpful in calculating the materials I would need for my wall, which made planning straightforward. My wall measured 4.5 m wide by 2.4 m high. I purchased the stud frame from Wickes, and the actual build was well within my DIY abilities.
Materials and quality:
I was impressed with the quality of the materials. The soundproofing products themselves are heavy and substantial—something I didn’t fully appreciate beforehand. For example, the soundproofing plasterboard weighs around 50 kg per sheet, and the ProSound FlexiSound 5 (4.5 m²) Self Adhesive rolls are also about 50 kg per roll. The delivery arrived on a pallet at the top of my driveway, well-wrapped and protected from the elements.
Delivery experience:
I was initially promised delivery on a Thursday, but it was moved up to Wednesday between 13:00–16:00. Unfortunately, the delivery did not arrive during that window, and no one called to notify me. It wasn’t until late Wednesday evening that I received a text apologizing and confirming delivery for Thursday between 08:00–10:00, which ultimately arrived at 10:00. While I understand delays happen, I would have appreciated being contacted when the initial delivery window failed. Customers value proactive communication about potential issues.
Installation tips:
The soundproofing seems to be performing well—either that, or my neighbors have suddenly become silent! A few practical tips for DIYers:
The ProSound FlexiSound 5 rolls are extremely heavy and difficult to handle, so consider cutting them into ~36-inch sections.
I used a Stanley knife for cutting, which worked fine.
Erect the panels vertically, similar to applying wallpaper, for best results.
I ran out of acoustic mastic during the build but was able to source more from Toolbox.
For guidance and instructions, I used ChatGPT, which was great for answering questions and explaining what to expect from soundproofing.
Reason for project:
This was all because I wanted to block noise from our neighbors—something we’ve struggled with over the past four households. The current tenants are renters, which sometimes brings extra noise. Since installation, all has been well.
Summary:
Soundproofing Store provided excellent materials and guidance. Delivery and communication could be improved, but the products themselves are high quality and effective. I would recommend them to anyone tackling a DIY soundproofing project, but be prepared for heavy lifting!

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We are really pleased to hear that you are happy with the quality of the materials and that the RedutoClip Independent Wall System is making such a noticeable difference.

You are absolutely right to highlight the weight of soundproofing materials. Materials such as acoustic plasterboard and FlexiSound are heavy by design, as mass is a key factor in achieving effective airborne sound reduction. We always recommend that two people lift and handle these materials safely, especially when moving and installing the rolls and boards.

We also appreciate your comments regarding delivery. Whilst delays outside of our control can occasionally happen, we can only apologise that the message you received was later on in the evening, after the estimated delivery time.

It's great to hear that the installation went smoothly and that the performance has met your expectations. We also provide step-by-step installation guides, installation videos and our team is always on hand to answer any questions during a project.

Thank you again for your recommendation and we hope you continue enjoying the peace and quiet.

Helped, but didn't fix the problem

Having bought a new flat, I was keen to soundproof the bedroom floor because I could hear the downstairs neighbour's snoring. The Soundproofing Store seemed to have the best system, so I order about £1500 in kit and arranged for my handyman to do the hard graft of lifting up everything including floorboards. When the materials arrived and we put them in the communal hallway, I noticed the rockwool had a really obnoxious smell, like cat urine. I phoned the company and they said they had never heard of such a thing. I phoned Rockwool and they said it must have been stored wrong. The main technical expert from the store eventually rang me back and said he thought it was the fire retardent they sprayed on it. Turning to Google, various chats indicated the smell would go away soon (because one doesn't want their bedroom smelling of cat urine). As the work progressed, we followed the online video provided on the store website. I telephoned, though, because I was advised to buy two 900ml of sealant when the video indicated only sealing the edge under the skirting. The woman advised that no, one needed to seal each floorboard, too, and sent me directions for installation. I asked why the installation instructions had not been emailed to me or included in thematerials delivery. She never answered. Anyway, after a fiddly week with this project (and £3000 pounds poorer), when the neighbor returned, I could still hear the snoring, albeit more faintly. So just be warned, they should be called the sound dampening store to be more honest. Trying to actually soundproof older buildings is a tricky business.
----
The above is my original review, to which Soundproofing Store responded. The tone of the reply is a better indicator of the nature of their customer service than I could have put into words. As to the instructions, they may have included them in an original estimate, but is there a reason not to include them when the materials were ordered several weeks later? The indicated email from 10th of February was days after the material had been delivered and installation nearly complete. A savvy business would have taken my comment and changed their protocol to ensure they send installation instructions with the receipt for goods purchased. As to other options for improving soundproofing, I had talked with their technicians three or four times on the phone explaining the problem and asking the best way to solve it. I bought their suggested solution. At no time did they tell me about other more aggressive interventions. In fact, at one point I called to ask if maybe putting in a cork layer between the floorboards and plywood underlay might help a bit (as my wood floor installer had used cork under that for the lounge), but that technician said it would not make enough difference to be worth the cost. That seems the perfect opportunity to tell me of other options that may also cost more. In any event, I stand by my review, which was honest and balanced.

With regards to the smell (which did disappear) we can only apologise for this, as we have never experienced any issues with the hundreds and hundreds of sales of Rockwool over the years. As with many materials (across a wide range of products and sectors), there can sometimes be a smell when an item is first opened which dissipates over a day or two. As explained, this isn’t a product we manufacture ourselves, so we have no control over the smell you experienced. Perhaps this part of the review is best placed with Rockwool?
With regards to the sealant and the installation instructions, these were indeed e-mailed to you on the 11th January with your original estimate. This is done as best practice as it allows for customers to read through the installation guides prior to making a purchase and gives them the opportunity to get in touch, should they have any further questions.
The installation guide was once again e-mailed on the 10th February when you questioned the need for the sealant. In response you state how you ‘maybe deleted the e-mail with the slightly more detailed instructions.’
In relation to being ‘honest’ we are always 100% transparent with the results that can be expected from each soundproofing solution. There are always ways of further upgrading floor solutions with a combination of materials. This increases floor height and cost and this then comes down to an individual preference on a reduction of noise v’s investment.

extremely helpful in giving advice

Spoke with Ian Baker and he was extremely helpful in giving advice and, even though i our situation there was nothing they could do to help, the fact that they gave honest and clear advice was extremely helpful. Would 100% use this company in the future

Sound at 3 plus acoustic tile review

I bought the sound mat 3 plus after much deliberation and looking at other options online. It appeared to be the best choice. However I'm writing this review for anyone looking into getting it to be aware. The mats are great for impact noise but not airborne noise. I purchased them as I'm in an upstairs flat and they've made little to no difference to hearing talking, music, television etc. I think it's made more of an impact for the neighbours downstairs as they won't be able to hear me walk around. I have been in touch with the soundproofing store and the customer service is great. They are very informative and willing to answer any queries. The delivery service is also top notch they were delivered off a lorry and then a forklift. For the weight of them and the current situation it's understandable they can't be delivered inside but I wish there was an option. The mat itself is also very heavy duty, dense and good quality.

I was advised that if I'm still hearing levels of noise it may be other weak spots such as the walls. As sound can travel up. It's also worth noting for me personally I wasn't able to fit the insulation wool between the floor as it's concrete slabs and a rented property. However noise itself still travels through the mats and doesn't almost eradicate everyday noise like talking as described in the video on YouTube, and as far as I could tell the house in the video didn't have any cavity insulation or anything in the wall when the sound test was performed. I would have expected some level of change in decibels from just the mats even if noise was coming up through the wall.

Altogether for two small rooms I spent £1150 and while it's nice to walk on it hasn't done the job I intended. For me personally I might have been better spending the money having the walls filled with insulation and getting some top quality acoustic underlay. I just hope this review comes in handy for anyone else looking into it.
