Best customer service EVER!

Amazing customer care and detailed instructions and advice. Jim Springham has outdone himself and single handedly reassured us that valued old fashioned customer service is still a priority for independent companies today. Several 45 minute conversations over the phone and a detailed email chain. It was a lesson in how to soundproof as much as a top quality service/materials. Thanks guys. Great experience and result for our soundproofing project.

Out of stock despite what the website says

Ordered RW5, got a call then saying it's not in stock despite the website showing in stock, tried to offer me RW3, if I wanted that I'd of ordered it.

Is it so hard to get a website to show live data regarding stock levels.

Don't trust the fact they say it's in stock, it probably isn't

Sorry you had this experience with us Jason. We try very hard to keep the stock position correct on the website, but unfortunately live data from multiple suppliers is not affordable for a small, family business, and very occasionally this happens. 99.9% of the time the stock is accurate - and even in this case we were able to get the material within 5 days, which is often okay, although I fully understand you needed it quicker.

Delivery Man Scam and Unhelpful Non-Advice

While Jim and Mark were very helpful and informative on the phone initally (for their great manner of speaking I thank them), they failed to inform me of what the delivery process would include. Similarly to when I’ve ordered other heavy materials like bathtubs and washing machines, I expected that the materials would be delivered to my flat door. Unfortunately, the delivery man parked very far from my building and I had to go find him- even at this point I thought- no worries, maybe it was tough for him to find my building. He brings the materials on a trolley and unloads them on a crate infront of my building's front door. I am a 5’2 female who lives alone on the 1st floor (there's a lift in the building), and I ordered 3 rolls of 6mm rubber underlay and 5 rolls of TecSound 100- each roll is a minimum of 40 kg to my estimate. Anyways, this delivery man then tells me he needs to re-park closer to my building (because he’s worried about his truck getting stolen at 9 am in the morning), all the while telling me “I’ll come back in a few minutes”. I wait for 10, 20, 30 minutes- the delivery man never returns. In a state of panic I call the delivery man multiple times- I’m blocked. I then call Soundstop who were unfortunately just as unhelpful, and might I say, a bit patronising? I am told by Soundstop- “Well actually, if he’s dropped the rolls infront of your door, he’s done his job” and “These delivery men have multiple customers in a day so it would be impossible for them to help everyone”- with no empathy for the fact that there’s about 200kg worth of material in that crate which has now come onto my shoulders to take up to the 1st floor. I was not, at any point during my multiple conversations with multiple members of Soundstop, informed or warned about the delivery process or JUST HOW heavy the materials are. Despite me trying for hours and almost injuring myself, I wasn’t able to lift even one roll. I then had to wait for the next 4-5 hours for a few of my friends to get off from work before they could come and help me take the materials up- and even with 5 of us it took us nearly 3 hours, whereas it wouldn’t have taken that long at all in the delivery man’s trolley thing up the lift.

If I’m paying almost £90 for delivery- surely I can expect that I won’t be stranded to take such heavy materials up by myself? Nowhere that I have ordered heavy materials from has behaved in this manner. Further to this, there was absolutely no warning from the team at Soundstop regarding the delivery process or just how heavy the materials actually would be, despite me mentioning to them multiple times I live in a flat in a building. Appalling- and this is my first ever negative review in my 27 years of existence. So you know it was bad. Otherwise, their manner of speaking over the phone is nice and they were helpful in regards to which material to go for specific to my issues- whether the soundproofing will actually work, I am yet to find out.

Dear Samiha,

Thank you for your detailed review, especially for the kind words about Jim and Mark's support on the phone. I'm really sorry your delivery experience ended the way it did - how stressful the situation was, and I understand why you were left feeling disappointed and frustrated.

Just to clarify, we do make it clear on our Delivery page, Checkout page, and in our Terms & Conditions that pallet deliveries are to the kerbside only. The materials we supply are classed as building products, which means they are usually bulky and/or significant in weight - especially soundproofing products where the mass provides the performance. The pallet network we use are best-in-class, but don't offer the kind of in-home or up-to-the-door delivery you might get with high-margin white goods like a fridge or washing machine - the drivers are unfortunately not insured to do more.

That said, we absolutely take on-board your feedback. If someone's not familiar with pallet deliveries or the weight of soundproofing materials, we can and should do more to spell that out clearly at the point of ordering, especially if the customer mentions they live in a flat.

We'll look at how we can improve communication on this, both on our site and over the phone. The last thing we want is anyone feeling stranded or caught off guard. We're sorry that was your experience.

If you need any help with installation or questions about the soundproofing itself, we are of course here and happy to support you.

Thank you again for the feedback, and for trusting us with your project. Many thanks, Rich.

Good product, nightmare delivery

I recently made an order with Soundstop for some rubber soundproofing. While it was quick and easy to make the order, and the team were friendly and helpful, I was really unimpressed with the delivery (and communication during).

Soundstop initially called me to arrange a delivery day. However, on this day (a Friday), the delivery did not turn up, and I received no information or details about the delivery being delayed whatsoever. I tried calling Soundstop, but heard nothing that day or for the entire weekend. I had taken the day off work for this delivery, and arranged for some family members to help me fit the soundproofing over the weekend, so this was really disappointing and threw a huge spanner in the works.

I then received a call from Soundstop the following Monday, saying they were going to deliver that day, but I was not available and had never agreed to this day. Eventually, I managed to successfully get the delivery, but considering I paid almost £200 for shipping, this quality of service was frankly unacceptable.

It would be really helpful if Soundstop could provide their customers with the ability to track their deliveries themselves through the courier (which is commonplace for virtually all online shopping these days).

Dear Jamie, I am very sorry - it looks like we dropped the ball on your delivery here. I can only apologise for the inconvinence I'm afraid - there should absolutley have been better communication to you around delivery timing, and keeping you informed. We'll be in contact direct regarding a few specifics if that is okay.

Thank you for the tracking suggestion - we are working with our pallet network to hopefully have something like this rolled out early next year. Many thanks, Rich.

Great service and products

Recently purchased 110 GenieClip LB2s and 50 furring bars for a 36 square metres ceiling.
Service has been excellent from the start. Great advice over the phone. Estimated number of items which proved to be just about right. Quick delivery. Only £75 delivery charge. Great communication all around.
Now all fitted.
Quality is excellent, as expected, and I did the installation myself following the instructions on the fitting guide.
Ready for plasterboarding.
Excellent service and products.
Highly recommended.

Great Customer Service

After ordering I was called up the next day by Jim to double check if I had gotten my order wrong because it looked a little strange.

The man took the time to make sure I was not making a mistake in my purchase which was really nice pro-active customer care.

The package was meant to arrived in 3 days but It got here the next day after the call (a nice bonus). All in all seems like a solid business.

Delivery service is awful

The products are fine, but the delivery is ludicrously overpriced for the service provided. I paid £130 for delivery, equivalent to around a third of the order value. For that I would have expected, at a minimum, an appropriately staffed delivery team. But they were both single-person deliveries which is totally inappropriate for items that are so bulky and heavy. For the first delivery I had to help the driver lift the extremely heavy plasterboard off his truck, exacerbating my pre-existing lower back pain; and for the second the driver simply dumped the heavy package of rubber mats on a restricted parking space on the street outside and drove away, leaving me to take them in on my own. An absolute disgrace given what is charged and I won't be using Soundstop again.

Good morning David. I am sorry you are disappointed with your experience of us. I'm afraid that the costs of delivery are what we get charged - we don't make any money on it, and try and get them as low as possible for our customers. Equally, as we say on our website, we are only able to provide curb-side delivery (without having our own fleet of trucks, which is not possible for a small family business). But I will look into how our website communicates the curb-side delivery, as it is important that this is clear to customers, and it appears it wan't in this case.

Excellent Support and great products

I recently worked with Soundstop to address a sound issue in my newly converted flat, and I'm extremely satisfied with the results. The team, especially Jim, Mikee, and Mark, were professional, responsive, and knowledgeable. Their support was crucial in helping us pass the sound test. It works, it's worth it for your sanity.....

Ok, so this is being reviewed a wee while later, we installed in 2022 because our neighbour wears old fashioned diving boots, has wooden floors and a horrendous high pitched cackle. We could also hear her slamming doors and whenever she had friends round, the cacophony of noice that ensued. measured the walls, did the living room and two upper bedrooms that adjoined her house.

The SM20 materials all arrived on time, we purchased additional adhesive from Screw-Fix, the SBX board was a pain to install, in the end I just used masking tape, cheaper and just as effective in stopping all the wee particles pouring out. The rubber was a bit of a tricky cut at times, I think some kind of hot knife would be useful, but we used a Stanley. Then the accoustic sound board went up and we gap filled. Plug sockets can be a bit of a nightmare, you still need to secure them to the wall and you have to measure carefully and cut holes in the rubber in order to fit the socket box etc. We glued some of ours in, in order to keep the accoustic integrity but, you're best using a wooden batten at the rear, secured into your original wall to fix the socket box and then apply the SM20 panels on top with cut outs.

Hanging pictures can be an issue so probably easier to go for bare walls. Now, two years later, we hardly hear a thing, just some faint noise when there are friends round and I can generally cover that up with music. We can still hear doors slamming but that goes through all the brickwork anyway so there's little we can do about that. None of it is lifting or coming away, it's all good and has made life a lot more peaceful.

We did have one or two issues but an email and a few calls later and they were sorted. SoundStop are happy to help, they're on the end of a phone and want to keep you happy.

Fabulous product... support and price for what you get

I am very surprised that anyone could complain about this company. I purchased, i immediately got an acknowledgement, and then a delivery date and then a time the day before. Delivery is expensive but i bought a lot of it and its heavy.
I live in a semi, and all the usual complaints. Late night music, tv and talking late. The odd argument. I read reviews and spoke to numerous companys that offer solutions.
Soundstop stood out for me. I emailed, and they called. I probably spent about £700 .. so I probably wasnt their biggest customers.. but i didnt feel like that at all.
Their advise is SPOT on. From start to finish. I used the SM20 solution. And upgraded with the SBX for a particular corner. I made the decision to double board with accoustic plasterboard (why not I have come this far and didnt want to risk it not working fully for the cost of another 4 plasterboards). The spray on really surprised me how good that was.. and then i used the accoustic sealant wherever theyre were gaps.
I also used Tech 50 to make sure the sound was not coming from under the wall. And used accoustic sealant to fill between the first two floor boards close to the wall.
Neighbours in a Semi can be a nightmare. I have lost sleep for months.. and got to the point i was just literally listening out for the next episode of whatever they were watching. I DONT HEAR ANY OF THIS ANYMORE!! its a game changer. I am so happy. Yes i hear doors closing and the odd very high pitched sound. But this is not annoying and does not keep me awake. I may do other rooms as installing it isnt too hard. I am amateur level and the instructions were great.
Id recommend this company 1000%. My total cost, with plasterboards, plastering, a carpet fitter to relay was £1000. This is a very practical solution at a cost level which makes sense.
Thanks to Jim and Mikee who were brilliant.

Collapsed Ceiling

I used the Genie Clip Acoustic insulation solution from Soundstop, which seemed like a great solution. It was installed by the installer according to specifications and had a rapid improvement to the acoustics of the room. However, after a few days I noticed the ceiling bend and luckily managed to get out of the room on time before it collapsed on me (and it is very very heavy and would have caused serious injury).

It seems as though the SBx Boards provided started to bend over time (the likelihood of that happening was not mentioned in any documentation) pushing the plasterboard down and causing it to collapse. My ceiling now has to be completely redone, adding more costs. The installer has reached out to Soundstop but despite all the evidence provided they claim that it is due to the installer not following instructions (they did, and there was definitely nothing in the instructions about avoiding the SBx Boards bending and collapsing my ceiling) and refuse any compensation or liability. This is genuinely shocking as I could have been seriously hurt and have plenty of evidence to pursue legal action.

Considering how dangerous it is in this case to use a faulty product and the high risk of injury I would recommend people not use Soundstop.

Dear Ms Kostyukhina,

I am very sorry to hear about your experience with this soundproofing installation.

For absolute clarity, we at Soundstop.co.uk are only the supplier of the materials to the installer you have employed - whilst we can provide general advice on the installation, it is the responsibility of that installer to install these materials safely and correctly to the building, using standard construction considerations and techniques. We can cannot underwrite your installers work, and I don't think it would be fair to expect us to do so.

We have had detailed conversations with your installer, and have tried to suggest solutions/causes.

Kindest regards

Never buying from here ever again

Me and my installer contacted them to ask for their sound proofing expertise and products

We gave them the exact measurements and asked them what we need to sound proof a unit

They gave us a list of items to buy as well as the quantity. I bought them.

Before buying though, my contractor worked out that we didnt need 49 plasterboards. We ordered 26 based on our measurements

Anyway... this company emailed us back saying "based on you measurements.. here's a list of what you need" (they typed exactly what the measurements were so they knew)

I bought them

They got delivered

We absolutely jam packed the materials into the build. Didnt shy from anything. I told my installer i need the unit as sound proofed as possible. Use everything. We even used new pieces of insulation to cover gaps, Instead of offcuts as i started to realise we had so many to spare.

So it turns out they quoted us with nearly twice as much as what we needed on Insulation, plasterboards, gene clips and tecsound mat. Literally all four of those items are nearly double quoted, not just 1 or two products. FOUR main components

If we used everything and double padded the walls with insulation and plasterboards, we would then be short. Neither of the options makes sense

Obviously i need to return them as im not paying for someone else's mistakes

This is where the crazy takes place..

I have to return the items to 2 different addresses. Insulation go to 1 place, other items to another address completely

I also have to pay for the shipping and they wont reimburse it.

Oh and I need to organise it. They recommended me a company and they said "You will need to organize the carrier yourself. We have used the following company in the past and found them economical and reliable, but this is not an endorsement of their company or the service they offer"

Hahahahahahah

THENNNNN

For the insulation i will lose out 40% of EACH product due to restock fees

And 25% for the other products

Why should i pay for all that? You told me i need it, i dont. Thats on you, the expert.

Even the shipping, i wouldnt need to return things if you quoted us properly and accurately

Ive been back and forth a few times with these guys on emails and phone calls, im too busy for this so im now just going straight to my bank and trading standards as they obviously dont wanna help

I don't even want any sort of compensation.. I just want the products picking up and full refund. I'm a fair man. They didn't offer any help and instead wanted me to lose out more money

Not once did they take responsibility for their mistakes either and "offered" to accept my returns as if theyre giving me a gesture of goodwill

Products work, but if you have any type of issue... good luck getting it sorted. You're on your own

I am sorry this was your experience of us. We try very hard to make sure that our customers get the material they need to complete the job, but not over-supplying. As we have discussed on email and phone, with the dimensions you gave, and confirmed to us, we really don't know how you have excess material - for example, you quoted a 9m2 area for which we supplied 2x 6m2 rolls of material - and you wish to return one of them unused. I am sorry you feel this is our calculations - but we are genuinely at a loss to understand the mis-match. As you are aware, the re-stocking fee is the fee we get charged by our supplier, and we have accepted your unused material back, taking the cost of the re-stocking ourselves, and refunded you fully, save for the agreed £60 to return the material to us. I hope you feel we have done our best to rectify this situation, but understand the experience has not been what it should be.

In my semi I can hear my neighbours…

In my semi I can hear my neighbours talk behind the wall, can hear their TV and they like to fight. Basically like living in someone elses house. Dont have a space for a stud wall, so went for a stick on option. I was quite disappointed after installing everything as I could still hear the neighbours while putting my ear next to the soundproofed wall. After everything got plastered and all the mastic cured I noticed that the room that was soundproofed became quiet. Putting ear against the wall will always give you transmission, you have to assess the soundproofing results by just being in the room and hearing the difference. I then soundproofed the living room alcoves where most of the noise( tv, talking, shouting) was. Mastic is still drying and no plastering been done, but now I cant hear the TV and conversations are not too audible. Shouting next door can still be heard, you cant block that, as I can hear them outside on the street when they fight. But overall the house is now feeling more like my house and not like next door neighbours live in it. For an easy to install slimline solution the SM20 solution is quite good. Oh and I also used soundproofing wool slabs under the floors and any joists coming out of the party walls had sound mastic applied around them where there were gaps between joists and bricks. Looking for a way to fund soundproofing of the bedroom walls now.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. Ignore their statement about orders arriving by 6pm it’s a lie. I had to contact them to arrange a redelivery as I couldn’t wait any longer. They then lied to me about when the order would arrive - stating the next day. When I checked this with delivery company they said that this was not true and that Soundstop had actually rearranged delivery for 3 days later. This has caused me significant inconvenience. Be careful as they will send your order out in multiple deliveries, no matter how small, meaning you don’t get all your products at once. The furring bars that did arrive were all bent at the ends - they immediately blamed the delivery company and took no responsibility. Their solution was to bend them back with pliers? Farcical response from a company that lies to its customers.
