There are so many negatives - I plan to focus on one for now. Prices escalate quickly with this company; they admit to a 10 monthly scheduled increase, however you will find invoices are rarely accurate and that the 10 month isn’t always adhered to.
My storage fees went from $250/mo. to $420/mo. Don’t bother trying to explain you cannot afford massive price hikes; they will not care.
You will discover any criticisms of escalating charges and hidden costs results in being “invited” to store your belongings elsewhere - of course you will have to pay additional fees and two weeks of (unused) storage fees to do so.
Yes - you will also be charged late fees of $20 at every opportunity - check Every Single invoice you get from Storage King against bank records of what you actually paid and on what date - and when the payment was *actually* due (is it actually “late”?)
Yes - you will also be charged for courier fees for any correspondence, even when this is sent to an address Storage King know is incorrect. They will brush off any and all complaints about this.
I had to submit a privacy request just to update my address - my emails and phone calls were simply ignored. Despite this, the incorrect address remained even after my request was claimed to have been actioned and Storage King continued to charge me - to have my information handed over to… who knows.
Yes - they will be careless with your “private and confidential” information, despite their privacy policy, and will want you to “prove” any privacy breaches - even if doing so requires access to information that they have withheld or simply refused to provide.
I notice many of the negative reviews which used to be all over Google have been obscured recently due to an influx of multiple strangely-positive reviews (I say “strangely” because both word-of-mouth and my own experience - indicates nothing has changed).
I worry that potential customers are being further misled by the cherry-picked reviews currently displayed on the Storage King website.
If you have no other option than to use Storage King, I urge you to first register your belongings on the Personal Property Securities Register - PPSR (this allows you to register a security interest in your belongings/personal property) via the MBIE website - registration costs $14 for five years and gives you a bit of protection.
Take photos of any belongings you are leaving under Storage King’s care - and of your belongings once they are in the unit itself. (I will address this in more detail later)

The day we moved our goods into the storage (Saturday) we had an issue with the elevator and it didn’t want to work. We tried to call the helpline but someone from Australia or elsewhere picked the phone with absolutely no clue on how to help. We then tried the emergency button to see if the dispatcher could help and all we hear from the elevator was static noise and a very distant noise. This ended up in having to pay more to the movers that helped us that day for the extra effort of taking the things up the stairs and the time that we could have saved if the elevator worked properly from the beginning, we wanted to be reimbursed for the extra money they made us waste and the unnecessary stress this brought to us. To make matters worse we then tried to complain to the manager Amy who was anything but helpful and gave us any sort of recommendations on how to use the elevator as simple as it could be. We went once again and the receptionist informed us that she leave every day at 2 Pm but that we can arrange an appointment after hours, the day of the appointment we called to confirm that she was going to be there, only to figure that the receptionist didn’t tell his manager that we were going on the date he specified so we waste a lot more time. At this stage we’re fully booked ourselves and we won’t be able to move somewhere else before our holidays, so won’t recommend this place at all to anyone not only the facilities don’t work properly but the staff is a bit helpless and don’t provide timely solutions to the customers.
Ninoy and Daniel at Storage Grey Lynn are awesome! Friendly, helpful and professional. The storage facility is super-clean and secure. Would recommend storing goods here.
