Terrace Downs Resort Reviews 

After purchasing a discounted activity voucher for Clay Bird Shooting and Archery my partner and I decided to enhance our trip to Terrace Downs by purchasing a nights accommodation and having spent the past month staying in various hotels of similar cost and comparative demographic we were looking forward to enjoying another lovely night away.
The visit started well; The staff when booking and checking in were lovely and we can't praise Neil Gubby of Newzengland Ltd (Archery and clay bird host) highly enough for the outstanding afternoon we enjoyed in addition to his helpful suggestions of places to explore and restaurants in Methven to try.
However when we arrived out our room the furnishings were tired and its maintenance could have been much improved (ie: the front door lock was so corroded and seized that the key appeared not to fit at all and we were convinced we had the wrong room - brute force and a desperate need for the bathroom ensured we overcame that obstacle but trust me it wasn't an easy task)
Fortunately we were in such fine spirits after our fantastic afternoon we were initially willing to overlook the key / bathroom dash, but slowly the the fact the bathroom and toilet were practically open to the bedroom eliminating any and all privacy, the shower was less than sparkly and the previously water damaged cabinetry was an embarrassment, although not quite so embarrassing as the leather headboard over the master bed that appeared to bear the passionate scars of every person too use the room before us, oh and the presence of sky without any of the interesting channels started to wear us down; however it was actually the APPALLING largely inedible breakfast we encouraged to eat as a part of our room package that was the crowning glory - Seriously we would have happily ordered and paid for actual food (I know you have it, it said so in the compendium where the spa menu was also supposed to be) rather than attempting to nibble on the rock hard pre-prepared buffet made up of rock bottom quality, poorly prepared and unpleasant tasting offerings that were encouraged to dine on... and to the staff member I discussed this with at the time: No it was not a poor selection left over due to it being the end of the buffet service, we were there at the halfway point and there was plenty of food it was just all revolting.
In all honesty my best advice is: " By all means head to Terrace Downs meet Neil, try all the activities they have to offer as he and they are awesome and the view is spectacular, but until the hotel management carry out a top to bottom spruce up ensuring that the accommodation experience offered by Terrace Downs is as worthwhile and pleasant as that provided by their activities providers, save yourself the $300 per night and drive home".

We arrived slightly late after the office was closed. The reception we received was great, stayed in one of the villa suites with wonderful views . The suite was perfect for two , Dinner was delicious and had a most comfortable sleep..we also ha a great round of Golf in one of the top Golf courses in New Zealand the following morning. We were well looked after by all the staff...it was faultless !

We definitely come back again if we are back to New Zealand again in the future.

Exceptional wedding planners, thanks for such a beautiful weekend

Thank you so much for helping to make my son Craig and his wife Mak's day as beautiful as it was. Kara did an absolutely stella job with the organising and the rest of the staff couldnt have been more pleasant. The food was fantastic and the servings were generous. The 2 villas that I booked were fantastic. Very clean and very well stocked. My family and friends were very happy with the day. Terrace Downs you are a star sorry 5 stars. Absolutely delightful thanks heaps

Villa excellent. Good space and good facilities. Weather was poor so we missed the great views. Very good place to relax.

Had a lovely night at Terrace downs, everything was just perfect, weather, food, staff, accomodation and surroundings. Magical place to surprize my partner for his 50th.

How many "best days of my life" does one person get? I have no clue but I imagine they'd be infinite if I spent everyone of them waking up and then going to sleep at Terrace Downs. It's phenomenal, and then some. As a matter of fact find your nearest thesaurus (or google thesaurus and continue from there) and add on every word that comes up under phenomenal, including value. It was worth every second of our time and every penny we had. It was perfect. And the staff was totally on point and hospitable. I can't wait to come back!

A great resort with a challenging golf course. Beautifully appointed villas with all needs catered for. Meals on both nights were well cooked and beautifully presented. The service was excellent and the warm welcome given by the golf desk was a great start to our stay. Breakfast was disappointing for the money.

The Villa at Terrace Downs was lovely. I enjoyed the big spa bath and comfortable bed. The rooms were clean and felt very posh. I only wish we'd had more time to actually enjoy being in our Villa.

What a wonderful place to enjoy your birthday or any other occasion with friends, food buffet the best ever I've had staff so friendly, everything went so smoothly for me. Ladies enjoyed their spa treatments, men enjoyed new actives for them to try, plus the golfers in the party enjoyed there golf. Shame I live in Auckland as I would visit more often.

View is excellent but...
Too windy for playing golf.
Balcony was dirty with lots of spider web.
All lights on the pass to club house are covered with dirt.
Room interior was not impressive, especially "Relax".
Shower room was always overflow.
Previous guest left a sox in the washing machine.
Soup tastes good but seafood platter was not good. Frankly, tastes like a in flight meal.
Sorry for rude comments but hope to contribute to better service.

The independence that a villa gives is wonderful.

Three things to improve please.
First, the villa was rather dusty.
Second, the towels weren't changed on the second day.
Third, breakfast in the cafe was late getting started which meant we left the resort later than we would have liked.
Otherwise, a fabulous stay, thank you.

Everything in this hotel is perfect

If you want tranquillity, space, quietness, not far from a major airport, away from Auckland, this is the place to go ...

5 star, incredible place. Must be experienced to be believed. The golf course is incredible, so picturesque but also challenging. We stayed in Yuki's Chalet, easily one of the most incredible places we have ever stayed. The view from the balcony really was breathtaking.

One night was not enough. Our one bedroom villa was spacious, clean and well equipped. The views are beautiful - even from the spa bath!!. The only one thing that was slightly annoying was the king size bed that was joined in the middle (2 beds pushed together) which made it a bit uncomfortable.

We had a thouoghlty enjoyable time at terrace downs. The accommodation was excellent the food was great the activities were lots of fun would highly recommend the archery and clay pigeon shooting the horse riding was lovely

We spent Christmas there- played golf and stayed in a lovely suite.
The weather was great so went ate on the terrace.
The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful.
The rooms were of a very standard.

We were lucky enough to win a night at the Terrace Downs. Loved the golf, rooms very comfortable and the meal was delicious. Say no more !

Terrace Downs was fantastic! The one-bed villa we stayed in was very spacious and luxurious and had fabulous views of the mountains. We absolutely loved the spa bath in the bathroom with shutters to open so we could look across the bedroom out the window to the views and also loved the gas fire in the lounge. My only complaint would be the main meal at Hunters restaurant wasn't quite up to the standard i woud expect with 'fine dining' but was very pleasant, althoguh the entree and deserrt were wonderful. Great service overall as well with friendly accommodating staff. Can't wait to reuturn!
