Evangeline
Evangeline, tried to be courteous and clarify the issue I was having with 'auctioneer's approval pending'.
She tried to answer, all of the questions I was posing and come to a conclusion.

The Saleroom bidding platform was suffering some technical problems. I sent a question to the Saleroom regarding this as I hoped it wasn't me and my laptop that was experiencing the issue. Kenneth outlined that it was the Saleroom that had a technical hitch with their bidding platform. He was very respectful and polite at all times. Very happy with his reply, hope, if I ever have to use the live chat on the Saleroom, that I get Kenneth, or someone every bit as good as, Kenneth.

Professional buyers' review of thesaleroom.com
We are professional buyers of antiques, with over 20 years of experience. We strongly recommend all serious auctioneers to use easyliveauction.com instead of thesaleroom.com. The saleroom.com has consistently, over more than ten years, sheltered and protected fraudulent auctioneers (and there are a number of them in the UK and the US), and, when we have argued against this gross malpractice, suspended our account, without any explanation. They have also repeatedly broken GDPR laws, keeping our bank card records, and suspending us, again without any explanation, when we, several years later, use the same card with another email address. Thesaleoom.com are a shame, a scum, of customer service and entrepreneurship, and should be sentenced for their illegal malpractice.

Buyers BEWARE...
Buyer Beware: We’ve been buying at auctions for over 15 years and never once failed to pay or been treated so poorly. Henry Krank & Co did NOT send an invoice or notification after we won an item, then weeks later, we receive an email accusing us of being “unresponsive.”This was the first communication that we received! When we called to pay for the item, staff were extremely rude, failed to admit they made a mistake and the manager cancelled the sale and threatened to report us.
Instead of investigating, the-saleroom.com suspended our account without question. No email, no arbitration, just guilty as accused. Absolutely unprofessional and hostile toward genuine buyers. Avoid this site at all costs!

I have various bad experiences with Saleroom ranging from being outbid on an item then the same item being relisted (obviously they didn't want to sell the item for my winning bid so outbid the lot and relisted), this happened with the same listing 3 times.
More recently, I bid on an item (I was approved and the bid accepted), when I have checked up on its progress it stated 'hammer price passed'. Again, the auctioneer/seller must have passed on the sale because they wanted more money.
If this isn't the fault of Saleroom, why aren't they doing something about this corruption or does it benefit them to sell the same item for more, they then benefit from a higher commission.
I wouldn't bother contacting their admin team as you will either get a generic response or no response at all.
I have had several bad experiences with this site now, not just a one off issue.

I signed up for a month's free trial
I signed up for a month's free trial, and decided not to proceed. Following the instructions on the email I received, I phoned the 020 number and notified a gentleman of my decision. On 15 August £14.95 was removed from my account. I phoned the 020 number again, to be told it was nothing to do with them and to phone a 0203 number which does not appear on the email. No human interaction possible. I emailed the address shown on the initial email (subscriptions/auctiontechnologygroup) and have had no response. A masterclass in user-unfriendly corporate communications.

Careful of new auction house and their charges
Why does The Saleroom support such underhand auction sites as the newly trading ‘Five Ways Assets’ which operate a very different operating model compared with more transparent traditional auction houses? No matter what your purchase an automatic £354 charge for ‘administration’ on top of your initial hammer price plus auction house and sale room charges. In my case in a relatively low value purchase ends up with a 200% additional cost I didn’t expect…..and it could be worse so watch out. All adds up to a very unsatisfactory experience. Sure I admit I should have read the T and C’s more carefully…… but I can’t believe such rip off tactics hidden in the very small print is ethical and feels morally wrong. It brings honorable auction houses into disrepute and shouldn’t be supported by the sale room in my opinion. Buyer Beware! To get out of my error and obligations I forfeited the payment I made for my first invoice from the company ( £240) which didn’t hint at their 2nd invoice containing these ludicrously unfair and punitive charges. They knew if it was all contained in the first invoice many more wouldn’t pay up.

Very helpful in sorting out a purchase payment that went wrong!
I recently purchased a few lots at a local auction using the internet and by default thesaleroom. After the sale, my debit card was charged twice for the same purchase. Contacting thesaleroom - particularly James and later Hasina - it was discovered after an investigation that the fault lay with my bank and not thesaleroom. Both James and Hasina were remarkably helpful with the matter, given the volume of sales transactions that they must deal with on a daily basis. Excellent service!

8 months of asking for a copy of the complaints policy following a really disappointing experience of buying a ‘diamond’ ring which turned out to be a lab diamond. I was assured they were a trusted partner before I parted with my cash - I noticed the seller was quickly offloaded when I raised my concerns and they then changed their advice on how and what to advertise to users - they are still refusing to take any responsibility. I’m gutted - loved this hobby - such a small amount to recompense - but requests being ignored month after month for the complaints process so I can at least make some real progress with this. I am all about fairness and transparency and this is a painful and upsetting process.

Zero Star if I could !!!!!!!!!
Zero Star if I could !!!!!!!!!
This sale room allowed scumbags like Harper Baxter auction house to steal money from us and did not do a thing apart from telling us to go to our bank !!!
When we noticed that we might be scammed by these we have contact saleroom and ask for help as the Harper Baxter didnt answer to our call to arrange pick up our items .
They have run timed auction and managed to sell their items multiple times via another platform as well as on saleroom.
Saleroom staff ensured us that they do thorough background search for all the auctioneer and highly likely is a misunderstanding.
We have lost 4700£ and still not sure if we will get our money back .
The sale room staff were very quick to wash their hands off and direct us to our bank to chase our money .
We felt let down by them .
I would never use their site and never recommend anyone to shop via their platform .

I have been bidding on saleroom for years and this year they keep blocking me saying verification code but I bid remotely on my mobile and the email is in the offices my problem is you can not call anyone and there chat does not work this is really bad considering what they charge
The online chat was excellent
The online chat help was excellent, Cyril was quick to understand my concern and to offer to contact the auctioneer on my behalf.
Harper Baxter review
I have purchased many items via the Saleroom and had full confidence in the platform until my most recent experience. I bought an antique wardrobe in Harper Baxter's timed auction which finished on 19/05 and paid the invoice immediately. I was assured that I would be contacted by the shipping department in due course but have heard nothing, despite numerous emails and phone calls (which all revert to answerphone). I have since realised that their website is inactive and the address provided appears incorrect...I have filed a complaint with the Saleroom and am awaiting the results of their investigation. Having lost over £600 via this transaction, I am extremely reluctant to use the site in the future and would suggest independently verifying auctioneers before making bids or payments.
