I bought a piece of furniture through an online timed auction with The Saleroom through Harper Baxter. I was contacted by Harper Baxter to pay my invoice which I did straight away and I have not heard anything since. The company no longer has a website and I have received no reply by phone/email. I have contacted The Saleroom on numerous occasions to discuss and resolve but nothing further has happened and now I am out of pocket by well over £600. Not a happy customer!!
Also, following my online query to The Saleroom, I received a scam call from an American number who had all my information.
How Much?
Had a query about the cost of the delivery service of one of the Auction companies under their umbrella. Answer received was straight to the point and informative.
An awful experience for bidders
An awful experience for bidders. Saleroom are very much set up to protect auctioneers and not the bidders. I spend a lot of money through the Saleroom, and I have had a few bad experiences with some of the auction houses. However when raised with Saleroom they either don't respond or give a very vague, automated answer. Most recently, I was 'banned' from an auction for 'paying late'. This is absolutely not true and I have provided proof to the Saleroom to show this was not the case, however the block is still on my account meaning I can not make bids with any other auction houses on the platform. The fact that they give auctioneers such free reign to impose such blocks without any proof is awful and detrimental to those who rely on the Saleroom for their business. Their customer service is truly shocking and they have not addressed my concerns at all, and it seems as if they copy and paste generic responses to all of my questions (if they even bother to respond). I will be using EasyLive from now on and would recommend others to do the same.
Prebid £50 on an auction at Sutton Hill…
Prebid £50 on an auction at Sutton Hill Farm Country Auctions. I was the only bidder at £12. I watch the auction and the bidding shot up to £70 and then down to my maximum. Contacted Saleroom who asked for more information, never heard another thing. Contacted Sutton, did not reply.
Sounds like another scam so i won't be paying for the auction until i get answers.
Thoroughly professional service
Sale-Room Listed Auction House, Took My Money and Disappeared. No Help Given.
I bid on a timed auction though The Sale-room and won 5 lots totalling £1008.00. I was contacted by the auction house to make payment and I did. I also checked out their website. Despite numerous emails and calls to Harper Baxter in Newcastel they have not responded. Their website is no longer available. And I believe I have been de-frauded. I have contacted The Sale-room many times and they also have not been able to reach Harper Baxter. I have lost my money and The Sale-room at first said it was not their responsibility but I say it is their duty to work with proper auctioneers who do not take your money and disappear. They say they will be in touch but refuse to let me speak with a person, only live chat. They bear no responsibility and are not giving me any assurances this will be fixed and my money will be returned. Do not risk bidding with them. Clearly they are not checking their selected auction houses and when things go wrong you are on your own. Please spread the word. And to add insult to injury Harper Baxter is still listed on their website. Shocking. And my money is lost.
Shady
They were either hacked and did not disclose, sold their customer data to spammers, or have unethical employees. An email address used only for them receives spam and hacking attempts. Very shady.
Awful experience allowing Scammers to…
Awful experience allowing Scammers to use their platform. Be careful with Fiveways Assets Limited read their hidden T & C under submenu. The auction I won for £1250 ended up as £2430 and 2 weeks later no item has arrived. If I dont pay they will charge over £100 a day on penalties alone. Police is now involved and reported to UK Gov. unfortunately The Saleroom tolerates this and therefore I will never go near it again and I had been a good client the last 4 years.
Don't leave a bid, only bid live
The Saleroom allows auctioneers to see the bids left on items at their auctions. It explains why the reserve on an item that I had left a high bid for recently with an auctioneer changed from £80-100 to £400-500 on the day before the sale. Auctioneers know how much you are willing to pay. Only bid live or use EasyLive, which doesn't do this.
Yet again I'm let down by this bidding…
Yet again I'm let down by this bidding platform. This time Bid Now froze halfaay through bidding. Really depressing as I work in the art world and this kind of glitch costs money. Very depressing as research, viewing etc all for nothing. In the past the site has logged me out suddenly then refused to recognize my password then suddenly recognizes it. Totally unacceptable. I did hear back last year but nothing more than platitudes really. I so wish all auctions had another online option to this. Quite dire and disappointing.
Great service Monique
The lady Monique went to a lot of trouble to help me out, and solved the problem straight away, very grateful, thank you for the prompt service.
On Live Chat
On Live Chat - Spoke to a guy called Kenneth. He very quickly answered my question and guided me in the right direction.
0 customer support
I received an email informing me that I was approved to bid at an auction that I had not signed up to. I spent over an hour trying to contact the salesroom. There is no live chat as advertised and no way of speaking to anyone by phone. I sent several messages and have no reply or update. In short no customer support. I have cancelled my account and would not recommend.
Thanks !
Delighted with the sign in and registration. Quick, prompt and easily accessible.
Deliberately miss-leading
I joined a few weeks ago and bought several items. I bought one item where the fees were shown as a %. When you hovered over the “?” you saw the %. I bought the item and received an invoice which I expected. After I paid it I received another invoice for roughly the same amount that I paid for the item. When you looked at the "T&C" there was no mention of an arbitrary charge. You had to click and go into the small print to see a “service” charge £275 charge. Be very careful.
