Kind considerate care from the very outset. All staff members I encountered were excellent whatever their role. A comfortable waiting environment at an anxious time.

Cataract surgery

I had Cataract surgery at the Mcindoe centre on the 29th June, from the moment I arrived through to post op was an amazing experience, I was looked after by the amazing team of nurses, catering & theatre staff and of course my surgeon Gok.
Great to have my eyesight back to full HD.

Thank you very much to everybody.

Excellent

I am bowled over by the level of excellence seen here by Dr Harley. A very personable and professional surgeon. I was equally pleased with the Mcindoe Center and all the nurses, especially Nurse Jessie Russo, who cared for me. I couldn’t recommend the center and Dr Harley more.

What a thoroughly professional procedure

The whole experience was professional, quicker than I had imagined and I was informed at every point of what was happening. The pre-care and post-care was calm, informative and the food appropriate. The results have been excellent and I would recommend the procedure to anyone

An excellent experience and outcome.

Recently I had cataract surgery at the McIndoe Centre. I was initially nervous about this but every aspect of my treatment was excellent. The atmosphere was friendly and efficient. Any queries I had were immediately dealt with and all appointments were on time.
I had no uncomfortable side effects after the procedure and immediately had excellent eye sight .
I give it top rating and fully recommend every aspect fo my treatment . Thank you to my excellent consultant Mr Elalphy and all the staff

Abdominoplasty under Mr Kumar

I recently had an abdominoplasty under Mr Kumar. The results are already excellent and the care I received at the McIndoe was outstanding. Although I had read good things about the Centre, everything exceeded my hopes and expectations. Mr Kumar was a delight and clearly very highly skilled. The anaesthetist was very reassuring. The nursing team was warm, caring, and expert and also very cheerful which helped my rapid recovery. I would 100% recommend.

Before I went to the centre I received in a timely manner information about my stay. Every member of staff I encounter was friendly and efficient. When I asked a question I was given the information I needed. I felt confident and relaxed during my stay.

What an experience!

1 day post discharge and I know there is no better time than now to do this review. I recently had an extensive abdo related operation at this hospital and beyond the fact that my surgery went very well, I really cannot think of anything remotely positive to say about my stay in this hospital all thanks to the bunch of staff with very few exceptions. The two nights I spent in this hospital would always remain the worst two nights of my entire life for a long time to come. I have also put in an official complaint about the entirety of my experience at this hospital but a review will also be in order. I literally had to keep a chronological log of events whilst I was in hospital to aid my complaint because it was quite a lot for me to manage on my own.
Perhaps due to the nature of surgeries and procedures carried out here, a handful of staff here treated my care as a convenience rather than a necessity, the question I kept asking myself was whether it be routine, urgent, required or elective if an individual comes into hospital should the level and quality of care delivered not be consistent, effective and patient centred? If it then comes at a price, should it not even be better because then one can look back and say truly I got all round value for my bucks?! Not with this place!. Given the magnitude of procedure i had done here, the post op care left much to be desired. Not only could the care have been much better, communication was poor and most times conflicting and I truly have never encountered a group of individuals so disrespectful, unprofessional, superficial and full of excuses.
Throughout my stay here, there were only a handful of staff I didn't have to ask for their names. The majority I had to go out of my way to ask them to introduce themselves and what they do because quite frankly, I was submitting myself to the care of these individuals and as such it was just as important for me as a patient to know who was caring for me and their roles. Let's just say I was self risk assessing, that's how challenging it was for me.
On the day I was due to be discharged from this hospital I had the "unfortunate luck" of speaking to the ward manager who came into my room and did not have the decency to introduce herself until I asked her to. She cited the excuse of me having physical obs and not wanting to interrupt until the gentleman who doing doing observation had finished. I do have a good clinical background so trust me there is no form of correlation or interaction between these two things.
A simple "Hello my name is.... I would wait for you to complete your obs and have a conversation with you" would have fared better but as I already mentioned earlier unprofressionalism reigns supreme here. Quite frankly, I have never in my life met anyone like this manager, more absorbed in their own "prepared responses". To put it this way, they were more engrossed in listening to respond rather than listening to understand the message I was desperately and painfully trying to convey. For every issue I raised I was met with lame excuses, knee jerk denials and even attempted to deflect the shortcomings of her "own staff" on me as the patient and questioned the credibility of my own story- specifically the issue of a DVT machine preventing not just me but another patient from sleeping ( the patient had infact asked the night staff to turn it off) but I needed it on having just had a big surgery. This manager said right to my face that she didn't believe it was the DVT machine making the noise but the blood pressure monitor which we could both see was OFF! It wasn't until I told her I was given zopiclone just so I could get a good night's rest did she let the matter rest. The irony of it is that I went through the reviews here and I see someone had also cited the noise of the DVT machine!
Whatever happened to accountability, transperancy and duty of care as opposed to trying to villianise me as a patient? The fact that this individual who is supposedly meant to be a ward manager would rather make up excuses for what were glaring shortcomings in the way I was treated and the quality of care I was given says alot but I digress.

I am yet to find anyone who goes into hospital, gets treated in a lackadaisical manner and is grateful for being treated as such. Its been emotionally and psychologically hard to get over this experience, would I recommend this place? Definitely not, the hospital does not make itself, its the people that work in it that make or mar the patient experience and these ones? They totally ruined mine and I wouldn't forget in a hurry.

patient centred care not superficial care. I think the former you will find is more beneficial for the individuals you care for.
I wouldn't recommend this facility for anything, for what it's worth defintely much better places with excellent care.

Excellent Care Provided

Although my procedure was a relatively small one on a finger, performed under local anaesthetic, I was extremely pleased with the experience. From checking in, right through to leaving four hours later, I couldn't have been looked after any better. The pre-op nurse was very friendly and made me feel relaxed. The consultant, Mr Harley, kept me informed throughout my time in theatre and detailed very clearly the aftercare required. As an NHS patient, I feel quite privileged to have been invited to this venue.

I had cosmetic surgery here last year

I had cosmetic surgery here last year. Firstly, I cannot fault my surgeon who was nothing but professional, meticulous and caring.
I am very happy with the result and this of course is the main thing.
I did however have a negative experience whilst there.
For my pre-assessment they had lost all my paperwork that I had sent in, so another set of forms was given to me - no problem, except they were for orthopaedic patients - the nurse carrying out the pre-assessment just kept telling me to only fill out what was relevant - ok. Then she kept correcting my language if I didn’t use a technical
Enough term. I had nail strengthening varnish on and she wanted to use the pulse oximeter which didn’t work as a result, and she told me off for that. I left feeling like a naughty school girl...spending money for something as sensitive as I was, I felt belittled.

Surgery day - feeling nervous and excited.
Prior to the surgery I was taken to my room, met with the anaesthetist (who was great) and my surgeon. All fine.
After the operation I was in recovery for hours as they were short staffed with nurses on the ward. The recovery staff were talking amongst themselves about the fact that the hospital wasn’t managed well, always short staffed etc - not what you want to hear! The recovery nurse also commented negatively on what I had done. I was in tears at this point.

Eventually I was taken to my room. My surgeon came to see me and said all had gone very well etc. Amazing! She gave me strict instructions that if I needed to get up to the bathroom in the night to call for assistance. I did this and one of the nurses in the night told me off saying I should do
It myself.
I had the pumps around my calves for the DVT prevention but they were so so noisy I barely slept.
In the morning the nurse looking after me, Mary, was wonderful - finally someone seemed to want to help me.
She was compassionate and caring and enjoyed working with my surgeon. Therefore
As I left I felt much better.
The main thing is that my procedure went well and I had no complications. As I have said, I cannot fault my surgeon and her care and skill.
I was however extremely disappointed with how I was treated at the McIndoe -
Made to feel silly for wanting an elective procedure (which is what they mainly do there!) and an inconvenience.
I would not recommend it as a facility.

Eye surgery made comfortable!

I was dealt with efficiently on being received into the Centre for an eye operation. The surgery itself was handled with great competence and reassurance by all the staff with whom I had contact.

I have no idea at all as to why you are asking me to review something I experienced approximately 18 months ago - this seems very strange! But, from what I remember, the experience was a positive one. It would be much better to seek reviews within a month of having attended the McIndoe Centre!
