I too was directed to an imposter site…

I too was directed to an imposter site when trying to pay my vehicle tax, having given this site my bank card details thinking I was actually paying my vehicle tax of £200 on 22nd February 2024. The £200 did not come out of my account, but an initial 50p was taken from me, followed by a charge the next day of £7.85. I didn’t know why I was being charged this money, so I visited my bank who looked into it for me and directed me to the fraud department of my bank. They advised me that my card that I had used was stopped and a new card would be issued with 5 working days, and also that they would block any attempts by Vehicleinquiryuk to take any more money from my account. They could not proceed with a fraud investigation because it was me who unwittingly pressed the key to allow 50p to be paid from my account, even though I claimed it was a scam because I thought I was on the genuine DVLA website. When I phoned DVLA the following morning they said they had never heard of the VehicleinquiryUK, and advised me that there had been no attempt from me on their records of paying, or trying to pay £200 vehicle tax. I can’t believe I am the only person who would have tried to report that company to the DVLA especially after having read the texts from other people who have been through the same experience as me! DVLA advised me to pay my tax through the telephone or through the Post Office when I get my new card. I feel I have been scammed and I feel very unlucky to have been fooled in this way.

SCAM

SCAM. Despite call to my bank immediately after the initial 50p was taken, the very next day a PENDING £7.85 debit appeared on my statement. This is a blatent scam set up to catch the unwary. I have learned that every debit payment needs to be scrutinised.

The £7.85 and £0.50 charges were refunded on receipt of my complaint.

This is a total scam and everyone…

This is a total scam and everyone conned by them should report them for fraud. 50p out of account one day, £7.85 the next day! I went straight into my bank and they helped me get it sorted but don’t know if or when money will be reimbursed plus your credit card becomes invalid from that time.

Scam

Scam! They take money under the guise and portrayal of being part of the uk government vehicle tax renewal website.

No access to company details and no way of contacting them- This needs to stop and should t be allowed to operate.

Nothing but a SCAM

This is nothing but a thinly disguised scam. Lost in the small print is that if you don't cancel after your 50p. enquiry /joining fee you will be charged £7.85 per month until such time as you cotton on! DO NOT USE IT-it is not a DVLA site

I didn’t even sign up for anything

I didn’t even sign up for anything, just trying to tax my car. They took 50p then £7.85 but I don’t know how as I never entered any bank details?? I can’t find the website to cancel whatever it is or find a contact number. Can anyone help? I contacted the bank but no response yet.

Now managed to find the website and cancel but still trying to get the bank to refund.

It is a scam--beware

It is a scam, no way to get hold of them to cancel. And my bank had the nerve to tell me it was a legitimate business, but in the end with no investigation refunded me the monies taken from my account.

This is complete scam

This is complete scam! Masquerading as part of the government website. It was only when the phone call asked me to confirm a payment of 50p, I realised. The government don't charge 50p to pay on line. Even though I didn't accept the 50p - I still have to cancel my card as they have all the details. What I thought was the government website has switched to this scam site. Beware!

I just wrote a derogatory reveiw of…

I just wrote a derogatory reveiw of "Vehicle Inquiry" on Trustpilot in the last few minutes only to discover that the company has now changed its name to "vehicleenquiry" !!
Beware! This is the same company!
Here is a copy of my first review:
I have just gone through the same experience as everyone else on this Trustpilot site and like some have managed to cancel the so called "membership" hopefully in time to avoid a second monthly payment leaving my account. My bank (NatWest) have this morning told me that actually this is not a scam and is not illegal but for me it calls into question what is or is not a "scam". This company (Vehicle Inquiry) deliberately misleads and deceives users into thinking they are renewing their road tax when in fact no such thing is happening. They quickly levy the first month's "payment" of 50p followed by £7.85. In terms of inflation and on an individual basis this is not a lot of money but it is a lot if you multiply it by thousands of people and it most definitely must provide a living wage for someone somewhere whereas most of us have to slog our guts out to achieve that.
Stay away from this manipulative and deceitful company - "Vehicle Inquiry". And any of its pseudonyms such as "vehicleenquiry". If this is not a scam I don't know what it.

I didn’t subscribe either and have paid 2 x 7:85 and .50p . I have demanded a refund as I was trying to pay my Road Tax on line and got directed here! I have been assured I will be refunded and have a reference number!
This should not be allowed to happen?
