Patience is a Vertu, don’t waste yours here.

I bought a used car from Vertu Kings Norton 3 years ago; they were friendly and accommodating throughout the buying process. Sadly, that’s where the good bits end. The aftersales and servicing experience has been abysmal. I honestly thought that by buying from a well-known established dealership like Vertu (Bristol Street when I bought it) that I would be in safe hands should anything go wrong, especially as I had taken out an extended 3-year warranty.

I have had so many issues with the car since buying it, some of which have never been resolved. The main issues being the clutch pedal sticking to the floor, sudden loss of power, taillight cluster failing, smashed sparkplug, steering wheel creaking, headlight lacquer peeling, poor bumper fitment and general poor service. I found that trying to get many of these issues taken care of under the warranty was a constant battle, their favourite quote is “we couldn’t replicate it” which to be fair could be true on a couple due to them being intermittent in nature, but the others they just didn’t test properly or couldn’t be bothered.

For the clutch pedal issue, it took months of back and forth for them to eventually agree to cover under the warranty. When they eventually did the work, it took them a month to repair it, at one point they even admitted that they didn’t really know what they were doing! (It was a Vauxhall part ex). Ever since they made the “repair” the electronic handbrake has intermittently stopped working, after they yet again “could not replicate it” I was told to drive it to Lichfield Vauxhall myself as they couldn’t figure it out. It still hasn’t been rectified, but now my warranty has expired. I worked perfectly fine before they carried out the clutch repair.

I also had a terrible experience at their Birmingham branch where I had one of my services carried out. They charged me for a main service, but only carried out a minor service, when I questioned, they said the only difference was the cabin pollen filter. I also checked my dashcam and found a technician in the workshop carrying out some grinding and spraying sparks all over my car!

To be honest, I’m glad it’s over and I don’t have to go back there again. I’ll get the handbrake issue sorted by a competent garage and move on. It has really put me off using a main dealer again in the future. What was supposed to be a hassle-free period of car ownership turned out to be the worst I have ever had.

Reply from Vertu Motors - Geely Kings Norton

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and please accept our sincere apologies for the frustration, inconvenience, and ongoing issues you've faced since purchasing your vehicle from us.
While we’re pleased to hear that your initial buying experience was positive and that our team were friendly and accommodating, it’s deeply disappointing to learn that we fell so far short in delivering the level of aftersales service and support that you rightly expected.
The issues you've described, including the challenges with the clutch repair, electrical faults, multiple component failures, and your poor service experience at our Birmingham branch, are certainly not reflective of the standards we aim to uphold. It's especially concerning that these matters persisted even after numerous attempts to resolve them under your warranty, and we understand how disheartening it must have been to feel like you were constantly battling to be heard and helped.
We recognise that your trust has been damaged and, understandably, you no longer wish to return – but we would still like to sincerely apologise for the distress and inconvenience caused throughout your ownership. Your comments have been taken seriously and shared with the relevant managers to ensure lessons are learned and standards improved.
Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss further and see if we can make amends.

Kind regards

David Cox
Branch Manager
