Wow! What an amazing company in Derby! A refurbished gearbox and clutch, all in with the labour for £1200. (With a 12 months piece of mind warranty). I was quoted £1000 with another garage but that quote didn't even come with any warranty. For £200 more I know this refurbished fiesta gearbox will last me many more years to come keeping me on the road! The clutch was completely featherweight after getting it replaced with a brand new LUK clutch! It proves how heavy and worn out my old one was! I have NEVER driven any of my cars with such a brand new car feeling. I stalled 6 times on the way home because I simply wasn't used it it! Lol. Wanna know the best part? The gearbox and clutch was all done in the same day! What other quote would give you that?! Tony will put your mind at ease with everything! If like me you have a fiesta that's now done high mileage, then trust me you'll be amazed at how much it'll feel like a brand new car again! I've fallen back in love with driving again! I recently reached out to a few places for a clutch replacement, and Wow, was I surprised! One quote I got was a whopping £957 from Halfords, which seemed really high. Then, I contacted A1 Clutches in Tipton, and they quoted me just £557. Right from the start, their team was super friendly and helpful. They asked me to bring in my car for a test and took the time to explain all the details I needed to know.
The next day, they called me back and even sent a video showing everything they found related to my clutch and some other parts that needed attention. The assistant was incredibly thorough! He let me know I’d need a few brackets and connecting parts as well. In total, the cost came to £1077.
I realized that if I had gone to Halfords, I would have ended up paying the initial £955 plus almost an extra £2000 for everything. I'm really happy I chose A1; they provided excellent service at a much better price! Now, my car sounds amazing, feels comfortable, and drives so smoothly. The clutch is perfect! Huge thanks to the staff at A1 for such a fantastic experience!

Called up about a failing clutch on my Civic, had me booked in 2 days after. Not only did their price beat every other place I got a quote from, they had the job finished within 3.5 hours and helped diagnose some other unrelated issues with the car. Absolutely top stuff from Steve, 10/10 would recommend!

In 2020, I had used A1 clutches Tipton to change the clutch on a 2005 land rover freelander td4, approx 40K miles ago, which is not excessive, A1 calculated.
In March 2025, I see myself having to change the clutch again. Every repair is done at a land rover specialist with receipts; it's the only garage I use for repairs, MOT, anything. When I visited my mechanic, he was a bit surprised that a was needing a new clutch after 5 yrs. It may be because the first time, non-genuine land rover parts were installed. I went to see A1 clutch with my 2020 receipt. I booked the car in and from that first day, I have been asking that they provide images of the clutch they installed in 2020. I was told that it can be done. Never have I been presented with these images. I suspect that depending on who uses their services, A1 clutch does not always install genuine parts.
I was always spoken in a polite way, though.
I am one of those people who uses their common sense, logic and thinking skills, and I doubt genuine parts were put in 2020. No evidence from A1 to prove that they did, despites having requested images many times. I ended up having to fix my clutch at their garage because they could not re-assemble the clutch in a way that would allow me to drive the car to have it repaired by my regular mechanic, even though, the car was driven to them with the gears not changing easily but still changing. I provided them with the parts myself and they charged me less than £350 to put everything back with the new parts I provided them.

Rang to enquire about a new clutch, the guy on the phone was extremely helpful, and easy to book appointment for the work to be carried out and he rang to keep me updated with what was going on, I would highly recommend A1 to others, very professional company

Fast turn around , A1 clutches know I need my van on the road - in & out 2hrs , ramp was free - new temp duty manager , is finding his feet well there & doing a good service thanku

So I was looking for a company to replace my gearbox and clutch on my renault trafic. Came across this company a1 clutches ' sent a email with what work I needed doing ' had a call back from a guy the nxt morn from the derby branch ' he explained everything to me' what would be carried out etc ' happy with the price I booked my van in and dropped It off on the mon ' we'd morning I got call from the garage to say my van was done ' can I just point out the other garages was telling me turn around time for this job was 7 days ' on picking my van the guy explained to me they came across a wire that was hanging ' they corrected this problem for me and made safe as a temp fix free of charge ' also on inspection of my old gearbox oil they found water had got in at some point ' so advice me to run the new gearbox for 600 miles and bring back in for them to check all is OK with the new box ' again for free can say not many company's would even mention that so van booked in for Wed to have it checked ' like to thank the boss at the derby a1 clutches and his staff. 10 out of 10 service ' 5* have no problems recommending this garage to anyone needed gearbox or clutch work .thanks guys .Mr Murphy. Called in to ask about my clutch problem reception very friendly and helpful the guy arranged for someone to test drive my car as I thought needed a new clutch,
They arranged for me to take it in the next morning had the car back afternoon all sorted excellent service

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received. My car had issues with gear shifting specifically, it was taking longer to shift into second gear. When I first brought the car in, I was informed that the clutch was worn out and needed to be replaced.

I scheduled the repair and dropped the car off as requested in the morning. I was told I could collect it later that day. However, after picking up the car and driving it home, I noticed absolutely no improvement in performance. I contacted the garage the next day and was advised to bring the car back in for reprogramming.

I returned the car, and within an hour, I was called to pick it up again. Unfortunately, after driving it home once more, the issue persisted. To be sure I wasn’t overly critical, I asked my wife to test drive it, and she reached the same conclusion.

I contacted the garage again and was told to bring the car back. I dropped it off on a Saturday so it would be ready for work on Monday. On Monday afternoon, I called for an update and was informed that a new clutch had been ordered and would arrive the next day. This confused me, as I had been told the clutch was already replaced during the initial repair. At that point, I started to question whether the first repair had been carried out at all.

The next day, I called again in the afternoon and was told the car wouldn’t be ready by the end of the day. However, early the following morning, I was unexpectedly told that the car was ready. I was concerned how could all the necessary work, including post-repair testing, have been completed so quickly overnight?

Despite my doubts, I collected the car because I urgently needed it. By this point I had completely lost trust in the service. In total, I visited the garage seven times and spent £600. The only thing I said to the service staff was that I no longer had any confidence in their work.

The car is in the same condition as when I first brought it in, with no improvement at all. I have no interest in pursuing any further resolution or compensation. I’ve decided to consider the money thrown in the bin.

Great service, they were able to fit my car in and get it back to me quickly

After a gearbox bearing change (the grating noise is gone) and a new clutch, both under warranty including a half-term gearing box oil replacement, and after fixing a small oil leak, I am very happy with my Suzuki Swift. Steve from A1 Clutches in Birmingham Digbeth has provided excellent aftercare too. Well done Steve 👍

I posted my comment on the 07/04/2025, your reply to my comment was that you have checked your files thoroughly and that you had no customer in of name Sukdev Bains, so how come you received a payment from me on the 18th of March 2025 of £454?, So if I don’t exist, maybe you should pay the funds back into my bank account. This is real FACT.

I only had one gear to drive with. Most dealers couldn't help for a week but Tony at A1 Clutches help me immediately and fixed my gears. I was back on the road within half an hour. Superb service in an emergency. Thank you.

Shaz, Steve and their excellent team kept me in the loop every step of the way when working on my clutch and flywheel, plus I had access to a courtesey car, highly recommended.

I had a mixed experience with A1 Clutches. While their work was efficient and reasonably priced, the customer service left much to be desired. Some staff were helpful and polite, but one interaction felt unsettling and unprofessional. I’d advise potential customers to thoroughly read reviews beforehand to get a balanced view. Overall, average experience. 3/5.

Great service from start to finish, my clutch went this morning, A1 Clutches arranged to have my vehicle recovered and fitted a new clutch within 6 hours.

All good. Could have been cheaper if I'd done it myself - but that's never going to happen, particularly if the new clutch lasts 150k miles like the old one.

Would highly recommend A1 Clutches!
Contacted them on a Saturday morning, came to tow car within the hour. Clutch and slave cylinder needed replacing, was kept updated the whole way through and car was ready to collect by the end of the Monday.
