Great Work Team Mercer…

I used Team Mercer as the conveyance for a purchase and I can say they provided a detailed review of the case and their services were impeccable as all due diligence was followed even as I was buying from a close family member.

Big thank you Kate, Kamila and other members of Team Mercer.

The worst experience ever

The worst experience ever! A simple first time buyer with no chain (and a vacant property) took about eight months. A complete lack of communication from Lyn Cornish ignoring us, despite our contacting attempts. We were not given any notice for the completion date. We were not able to sort out the deposit transactions as Lyn did not let us know in advance. After completion, we have not any copy of our Lease. After completion we have received a fine from government because this Disgrace firm failed to register our property (despite having paid the Land Registration Fee on Completion day). We have tried to contact them to find out that they have just closed down. What a disaster!

Awful experience

Makes me sick reminding about this law firm.
We used Joyce Scofield from AGL when we bought our first home, I can't even explain the amount of stress we put through. No replies to the emails, no answers to calls.
Mrs mentioned above couldn't be bother to update us in any stage of the purchase. The whole team was very unprofessional and rude.
Run away when you hear their names

Their mistake I paid!!

23.7.2023-MH:CT2:47521

There was a Balancing fee 264 pounds from 2021, which normally should have been paid by the previous owners as we did not purchase the property until August 2022. AGL did not retain any money for such an eventuality which apparently is standard procedure? The previous owner Mr Turner refused to pay and said it was a catastrophic mistake made by my solicitor. To cut a long story short, I paid the bill on the 23rd of June 2023.
I haven't received any reaction to this yet, I'm not surprised! I already started a mail to the SRA in July, explaining the whole story, so I will finish it now and send it.

AVOID and AVOID AMITY LAW

AVOID and AVOID AMITY LAW
Used as Alexander Grace, 2 days after we were due to exchange they announced they were closing and we hadn't exchanged. 7 weeks after we are no further forward, constantly asked for 1 piece of information at a time. Complaint raised with Legal Ombudsman but still not getting anywhere and all of the information has been provided previously. Totally unprofessional.

Highly recommended

Highly recommended! Dominic Grenhall and his team provided excellent communication throughout the sales and purchase of my new home. I found them to act efficiently in speeding up the long process of a house move. Would definitely use their services again if required.

They knew they were closing since May

They knew they were closing since May, but continued to keep us in the dark. The contracts from the other members of the chain were signed 23 june ready to move this week. I panicked as I hadn’t heard from AG. About me signing my contract for exchange. I left many emails and angry phone messages in the end. I was asking for reassurance. On Thursday 29th i received an email saying they were closing the following day. I believe they knew about this months and months ago as I ended up having 4 different solicitors during this time.
I have now instructed another solicitor, not Amity Law as the staff and CEOs of AG a working for them.

Highly incompetent...

Cant express how bad our experience has been with this firm. We haven't had a single phone call to discuss our on going deal. Email communication was very, very slow, to the point where you have to chase and still wait for days on a reply. Biggest joke of all was when we had to complete last week, and we were assured it will happen, the firm announced their closure and therefore all of our plans have collapsed. We dont even know when or whether we will even complete in the near future. No communication, no explanation or reassurance. Zero empathy for their clients... The new firm is AMITY LAW, please read before you sign with them!

Avoid at all costs- Amity Law too!

They were the acting law firm for both our buyers and our vendors in our current chain. We were due to exchange this week and with 2 days notice they informed both parties they were closing. The legal ombudsmen have advised to sue based on negligence due to the notice. My main recommendation would be, for the love of god, don’t follow these people to Amity Law as recommended. Not sure how they can have any self respect leaving so many people in situations of chains collapsing and losing mortgage offers due to their clear ineptitude. Disgrace.

Slow, incompetent and receptionists couldn't be less helpful.

Almost a year after purchasing my house the land registry was still not updated, when chased was told that there were still charges on the other side. They should have chased until complete and not just let it to sit on a shelf until I had to chase.
Every time you call, you wait between 20 and 60 minutes for the phone to be picked up. When it is picked up you then spend another 10 - 15 minutes on hold whilst the call is transferred.
When you speak to someone, they are never the right person and they ask you to email.
When you do email you rarely get a response and if you do it is 9 - 30 days later.
House was 2 months late on completion because of the glacial pace of this company and I can't recommend enough for people to go and find another reputable company.
Solicitor was pleasant enough when you did get to speak to her, but honestly not worth the hassle.
Avoid, avoid, avoid at all costs.

Stay away from this solicitor

Stay away from this solicitor! They are totally incompetent! They are in the middle of closing down or changing to an 'umbrella company' and have given us 3 days notice with hardly any information, and no one at the office seems to know anything about what is happening.
The stress they have created is horrific right now! :(

Avoid at all cost!

Stay away from this solicitor! They are totally incompetent and will simply forward every enquiry to you. They don't take any initiative to obtain any documents beforehand, so I ended up dealing with 43 additional enquiries on a simple leasehold. It once took them 9 DAYS to find an email on their system and 9 MORE DAYS to reply to it...
It dragged on for 13 painful months before the buyer abandoned, so we lost the sale.
They were really hard to reach, only to say that they don't have the information and they will call back (they never do). I had to call them every day to make them do something, and in the end I even hired another solicitor to assist them...
If you are already with them and only now reading this review, it is not too late to drop them, even if you think you are close to completion (you are definitely not). The stress they create takes time to recover, believe me.
I strongly suspect they manipulate their reviews to appear better than they are.
EDIT AFTER REPLY:
To provide some clarity on some points you raised:
"you initially left this review for another firm" You were indeed involved in the same sale as DC Law so the 13 months it took and the fact that the buyer dropped is indeed relevant to both of your firms. It is also an amazing coincidence that you both can't find emails in your own systems, and that it took both of you 9 days to find them (it was actually in the same email exchange, so I believe it would have been faster to tape it to a snail...). I therefore maintain my comment for both of you.
"we do not raise any enquiries and only answer them from the answers you or another party provides us" That's my point, you forwarded all the questions to me, I even had to contact the council and the leasehold management company for you...
I acknowledge that a lot of the delays were caused by DC Law, but you were also very slow to react, especially during the first 7-8 months of the proceedings. I recognise you got better towards the end, but this does not warrant an overall good score, especially since I had to call you up to twice a day for that... Please do not shift the blame (again).
"At no point was another firm of solicitor's instructed to assist us on this matter." Yes, there was, but not officially as it was messy enough as it was...
As for your phone call, you disturbed me at work, started by calling me a liar, argued that you answered on time once (hurray!) then requested that I send again the formal complaint I already sent you according to your own complaint policy, then you hung up on me mid call...
Once again, your customers are not supposed to do your filekeeping, or tell you that you really need to setup a shared inbox...
I have nevertheless forwarded my complaint to your new inbox, which is still not in your complaint procedure.
To be clear, this review is not meant to help you improve your operation or discuss the past, as I believe it is a lost cause, but to inform my fellow members of society so they can make a better decision when choosing a conveyancing firm in line with the best principles of a free market economy.

Hello Cyrille,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

We can see you initially left this review for another firm whilst slightly amending the same to our Trustpilot page to fit with the narrative.

We do not raise any enquiries and only answer them from the answers you or another party provides us as we do not see the property you are selling.

If you feel any of our reviews are manipulated we strongly suggest you raise this with Trustpilot who monitor our reviews in line with their strict policies.

From a review of the file it can be seen your agents cc'd you into communications which confirmed the delay was not with ourselves but other parties. We are not personally allowed to do this as it is a conflict of interest to do so.

It is also noted your complaint was with your buyers solicitors , we could have not done any more than what we did for you.

We find your review does not actually reflect our service to you , but the issues caused by another party which we can not foresee or change.

We asked for the assistance of two separate agents on your matter as we were struggling to get it progressed. At no point was another firm of solicitor's instructed to assist us on this matter.

Upon a telephone conversation you had with our complaints department today , who reached out to you. You were advised of the above and also asked why you never raised an internal complaint if you felt so strongly about this. You advised you did as per our complaints policy , however this can not be located and you were asked you could send a copy of this communication so we can look into it. You advised no and continued to raise your voice and advised we were calling you a liar . The call had to be terminated by our customer service representative who was simply trying to understand if we had missed something for such a review to be placed due to your continued rudeness and raised voice.

We are sorry you feel our service to you was as described above, however, as discussed on the phone the contents of the communication on your transaction does not reflect the same . If you want to provide a copy of the complaint you advised you raised to us as per our formal complaints procedure, you are welcome to send a copy of this to resolutions@alexandergrace-law.co.uk .

Best regards
Alexander Grace Law

Paying service charge twice

I sold a property with Alexander Grace Law. Both my conveyancer and the manager have subsequently left.

I am currently out almost £1,900 because they had us agree to a service charge allowance and retention on the assumption that the Council (the service charge provider) would charge the buyer the full service charge for the year. In fact, the Council is charging us for our pro-rated period of ownership (and apparently always does this, so it should have been known to any conveyancer) and Alexander Grace Law has made little to no effort to try to get us refunded both the allowance and the retention. I will continue to try to get this refunded to me and will update this review if/when there is a resolution to this issue.

Exceeded expectations 100%

Extremely happy with how professional, patient and friendly both Mathieu and Kathryn have been from beginning to end. The communication was above and beyond my expectations, this is based on other companies I have used that I had to continually chase. I have not had to do any of that, and you’ll be the first company I’ll come back to in the future. Thank you so much and hopefully I can deal with you both again in the future ☺️

This company is unbelievably…

This company is unbelievably incompetent! avoid at all costs.
you will have to chase everything and rarely deal with the same person. They are slow to respond or inform you what is needed, so by the time you realise its weeks down the road and your purchase is delayed.
if you send signed documents to them in post it will sit for a week in internal mail!
Then on the day of completion they will announce several things they need that they didn't explain making it very stressful! and ask you to pay things without sending you the bank account details to make payment!

Never again

It's good to see AGL from the current reviews they appear to have actually improved their service. I was referred to them on recommendation from my estate agent. My experience with my sale was a nightmare! I was gazumped on my first purchase due to the market explosion last year because they took so long, fortunately I found another property. I was receiving correspondence referring to the property I lost asking me if I was ready to exchange months after it happened. AGL bypassed the coordinator so she wasn't aware of what was going on, so I had to liaise between them, one day I fielded over 30 emails (and I still have each and every one of them!) . The team was incompetent I'm afraid. Even writing this is bringing back awful memories of nearly having a breakdown and is winding me up. I was asked to leave feedback so I am. Fortunately my purchase team were much better and they actually spoke to me!! I was going to complain to the ombudsman, hence keeping every email etc) but it would have finished me, I decided I had to pick my battles and I'd had enough! Personally I will never use them again.
