I paid for a car package from Priceline with America Car rental out of Orlando MCO. I must report they are a very bad company. No one should offer their car rental services! Their location is far from the airport and when we got there, they wanted an additional $479.00 from us for car insurance. I have a letter of car insurance coverage from Citibank visa of up to $50K and also our own Geico car insurance and they refused to let us decline their exorbitant car insurance coverage. It is our right to decline it if we are providing our own insurance. However, they would not give us the car unless we paid it. It was also 96 degrees and we are elderly and they pushed us outside and refused to take us back with their shuttle to the airport, which was far away..

They were extremely rude, threatening, and nasty and were also doing the same thing to another lady who came before us, she also was refused the car unless she paid for their ridiculous coverage. You really should know about this vendor. They are shady and threatening and really crooked.

I have made a charge back on my credit card already with visa to get reimbursed. But they should not be sent anymore business. They are bad humans.

Warning: Would NOT recommend going with this car rental company. When I showed up to pick up my car at SJD airport in Cabo, Eduardo O.F. told me that I needed to pay additional fees and that the price posted on Expedia was not "the real price." They then said I needed to pay the real price which was $100 more and that this was required to rent the car. Since I had already paid in full through Expedia, both for the car rental and extra insurance, and could not walk away (it was offsite at the airport and you needed to take a shuttle), I paid the $100 extra. When I got back home and followed up with Expedia, they said these were optional charges and that I had willingly paid for them. This is fraud. America Car Rental also gave me a car with pre-existing damage and tried to blame it on me when I returned the car. Luckily, I had taken my own videos and could prove it was already there. They were hostile and extremely unprofessional, telling me I couldn't take photos. The single worst car rental experience I ever have had.

Furthermore, their automated reply below is not genuine because they are not really interested in "[improving my] experience with [them]" or provide me with "a personalized attention" since both I and Expedia have reached out to them and they refused to "help."

Do not recommend America Car Rental, If I could rate it negative stars I would! First it is not at the Tampa Airport as stated, and then I provided valid insurance (I have progressive
a nationwide insurance and on my contract it said purchasing their insurance was optional) through priceline, and when I went to pick up my car they would not accept I had to purchase their insurance for an additional 300.00. Rude, unfriendly employees. This company used to go under Sonic Car Rental I found out and you will see the same type of complaints! Stay AWAY!

Warning!!!! Be careful with this rental company! Especially in Mexico! We rented a car in Cancun for 5 days, when we picked up the car they tried to sell us additional tire and window insurance which we refused to take. On the fourth day my wife went to church when she was going to drive back to our condo she noticed the car had a flat tire so she asked and paid someone to help her put on the spare ( she never drove the car while the tire had a flat) the next day we returned the car and they said the rim was damaged so they had to charge $500 dollars!! Seriously? I would be more than happy to pay for something I did but this is a complete scam!!! Please do your self a favor and don’t do business with these thieves..

Avoid this company like a plague.Price was too good to be true. Car was an old Chinese make that was not what we asked for but for some reason only uses premium fuel meaning crappy car but expensive to use.
We waited 30 minutes in Cancun airport before we were picked up, when we finally got to the office, they didn't have the automatic car we had reserved ready and wanted us to take a manual car. We only have an automatic license, so we had to wait another 45 minutes. The guy at reception was very rude and dismissive and didn't apologise once for their crappy behaviour from the start.

Still waiting for my refund over three months later. I had to involve my bank and a lawyer, yet the company continues to delay. They respond here to appear helpful, but in reality, they do nothing except tell you to wait. Avoid this company at all costs.

We recommand this car rental

We have made a reservation a month before our trip to Tulum. As we got there my husband handed him his discover card, he said we don’t expect Discover. The guy was so rude and we couldn’t ask him to take our Visa card. Now we had connecting flights from Pennsylvania and exhausted with a special needs daughter. He told us that the car we rented is not big enough for our three suitcases and he can’t change it, I told them when I was making the reservation, I told them we have three suitcases. Finally we took a taxi to take us to another rental car company in Tulum centro and rented a car. These people have no compassion, I would never rent a car from them, we go to Tulum at least twice a year.

They don’t let you use your own car insurance. Daily charge for minimum car insurance is very expensive ($50) / day. SunPass charges are also too high. They quoted me $22 / day but end up paying $87 / day. I won’t recommend it to anyone.
Pick up at the airport took almost 2 hours because I call them to a US number listed on their web site because they sent me an email confirmation with a Mexico phone number.
Their offices are in a small warehouse without area (sits to rest after a long trip)

I booked with an online travel company, Booking.com. I presented my confirmation at America Car Rental. They said they needed a credit card while I had their vehicle for insurance. When I got home I realized they charged my credit card for the same amount as Booking.com. I have reached out to their non-existent customer service department, booking.com and no one has responded.

Additionally, the car was almost on empty when I got it. I am so lucky I noticed this before I got out of the city.
Very unprofessional & NON-EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
They owe me money!!!!

If I could give this company ZERO stars, I would. This is, without a doubt, the WORST car rental experience I’ve ever had. They force you to pay for an outrageously expensive insurance, even though my credit card already provided coverage. It’s a complete scam!

They completely ruined my time in Mexico. The car they gave me was a joke—it didn’t even lock properly. To make matters worse, they made us drive all the way back to the airport to exchange it, only to leave us waiting for over an hour because no one was available to assist us.

This company is a disaster. Save yourself the stress, frustration, and wasted time. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!

I’m reaching out about a problem I had with one of your agencies in the international airport of Mexico, I had a reservation of a car, a reservation made throughout EconomyBookings.com.

The problem is that when I arrived at the moment to collect the car they told me that no car was available and they refused to give me any car. The only solution was to told me to cancel the reservation with the website where I made the booking. But I couldn’t cancel the reservation by myself because of the terms and conditions of the website. So I contacted the website EconomyBookings to tell them the story and they said that it was considered as a no show. But this wasn’t the case.

First of all I need you to give me a proof that your guys didn’t wanted to deliver me a car in the d day then I need you to know that you’re a very bad company, unprofessional and non serious.

This was a very bad experience and we were with two little babies.

I booked a car with pick up in Houston international airport IHA on the 11th January 2025. When I arrived at the airport I couldn't find America Car Rental and non of the other car rental companies had heard of them. I tried to call the number they had provided, but no one picked up. I then found another number on google which was for an office in Mexico. The guy told me to just wait and then he would call his colleagues in Houston. I waited for a while and didn't hear anything so I called the Houston number again. This time I got through and was told to go back to terminal c, where someone would meet us in 20 minutes.
We hurried back to terminal c and waiting, but no-one came to meet us or called back. So I called once again. This time I was just told that the rental car had been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances and we would just have to get a refund. No further explanation was provided.
This is the most ridiculous experience I've ever had. I ended up spending lot's of time and money calling them from my international phone number and never got a car!!

Car rental company said our booking was cancelled. We had a copy of the booking to hand to show the agent (printed off 2 days earlier) He refused to honour the booking and told me to contact the broker(EconomyBookings.com). They were unhelpful too.

Shuttle service to the airport is a plus.
The vehicle gave us no problems and was very comfortable.

We rented a car in November 2024 with America Car rental and we are really happy with them. The communication previous to the rental was easy, the estimate has been honored, the car was almost new with no problems. Take and return the car was quick and we had no issues at all.
Of course they offer you additional insurance as all the car rental companies do, but you just need to decline if you aren't interest.
The deposit was paid back quickly.

This place is a scam. We made a reservation 3 months before the date of rental. We now find out they’re not honoring our reservation. If you want stress a stress free renal this is not it.

I had an absolutely horrible experience with America Car Rental. It has now been 7 months since I cancelled my reservation and I am still waiting for my refund. The company has repeatedly failed to process the refund, despite countless emails and assurances that it would be handled.

Their customer service is incredibly unresponsive, and I’ve been left in the dark every time I reach out for an update. It's clear that they are either incompetent or intentionally scamming their customers. I have tried everything to resolve this, including providing all the required bank details and following their instructions, but I’m still no closer to getting my money back.

If you're considering renting from this company, I strongly advise against it. The risk of losing your money and getting no support is just not worth it. I will be sharing my experience on every platform I can to warn others.

Stay far away from this company!
